A co-worker has his great grandfather's Merwin Hulbert in .32 it has ivory grips and nickel plating. His great grandfather called it his church pistol.
Glad to see you collaborate with InRange. They did a few old west vignettes about 5 years ago, taking the viewer on some great Arizona history rides. As a native Arizonan who's family has been here since before statehood, I love those bits Karl has done. I'd love to see more collaborations with folks like this.
Wow! A collaboration with InRange. Even though I love both channels I never expected this particular crossover. What a great surprise! Would love to see more in the future!
I love your channel, though I got really excited to see you do this collaboration! I had never heard of this revolver! Please do more work with Karl, it seems like you both had some fun!
Great video of a marvellous gun, I am fortunate enough to own 2, although living in the UK I'm not allowed to fire anything through them, both in 44 Merwin & Hubert, the proprietary calibre that was made by them back in the day. One is open top and the other has a top strap and is double action.
I really like the Merwin's. That is neat about learning History. There are pleasant surprises awaiting. If you are a casual History buff you might never know that there were firearms other than colt and Winchester. Best Wishes from Montana! M.H.
Very cool revolvers They were so well machined thus pricy. I handled a mint condition engraved one while I was working at Lock Stock and Barrel. .44WCF isn't hard to reload. There is one extra step: case lubing before re sizing, but that's it. Switching to a .44 mag bell die fixes the case crushing problem. Original .44WCF bullets were .427, modern ones are .428, so a slightly wider bell fixes the problem. I've been reloading .44-40 for SASS for years and don't crush cases. Santee, I was tickled that you met my pard Brother Tom at the WBWFF a few weeks ago. In case you were wondering, even though I'm now an award winning director, we can still be friends!!! Hope to see you along the trail soon. The Scoundrels are very busy over the next few months. We have California Days coming up at Calico in Feb...I'm pretty sure the 17th and 18th. Come on out and we'll take your money at faro, grand hazard, vingt et un, or maybe Soapy Smith will just fleece you before you get into my Silverlode gambling hall!
Ahh, yes, the legendary Merlin and Hubert. 😁 Very cool - long time InRange subscriber here and it's great to see collaborations between people who really know their stuff!
Absolutely awesome Santee! Love Western history. And to see you with Karl so cool I also follow In Range. Learned something new again can't get enough knowledge about our past. Thank you Santee for all your hard work and time Sir. You are appreciated a lot.🤠🇺🇲
Great video and I love the Merwin and Number 3 S&W. I had a shooter Number 3 Russian back in the 1980s and like and fool sold it in the 1990s when things were tight. I only shot it with BP
Great colab, Santee! I watch a bit of 'In-Range,' and have learned a bit from him, as well... I enjoy doing mental exercises of what I would've taken with me if I'd helped settle the west... 'Tactically practical' revolvers like these are usually at the top of my list
Great to see you hanging out with such a great guy. Or he getting to hang out with you TBH made for a great new video. Stay safe out there, and take it easy man.
Great to see a collaboration between two of my favorite subscribed channels, Arizona Ghostriders and InRange TV. Hope you folks can keep doing it occasionally as time permits. Best Wishes, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.
I think one of these was used in a movie called Bone Tomahawk, kind of The Searchers meets Hills Have Eyes. It's really good but also _grisly as all hell._
i misheard that opening as Roeper and Ebert…hope that isn’t insulting 😳🤣 odd gun yet revolutionary…had never heard of this before but glad to learn about it
I USE TO COLLECT OLD WEST GUNS MOST YOU CAN NOT GET AMMO FOR ANYMORE .. SO I HAD TO BUILD THE AMMO TOO !! THANKS SANTEE ! ADIOS AMIGOS SANTEE !! MERRY CHRISTMAS !
I love both of these channels.I wish there were more longer format videos I could listen to both of these gentlemen speak for hours. More crossover would be very cool also.
This has quickly become my favorite series on RU-vid! Please keep it up, Santee! This ol' half-blind gringo loves hearing about loves hearing about all things Wild West.
Interestingly, the M&H was the official service sidearm of the Spanish Army around the turn of (XIX) century because they were deemed better than all others, but since it was quite expensive and officers were allowed to provide their own sidearms, most did choose cheaper revolvers to the point that almost none of the M&Hs were actually used in the 1898 war with the US.
I was so excited to see this video pop up. Two great western firearm history channels in one episode covering one of the most rare & special revolves of its time. Thank you guys for putting this on! Would love to see more collaborated videos on rare western firearms!
There was a company a few years back trying to bring back the merwins. Sadly they didn't make it and the company which bought them were not interested in getting the merwins onto the market. A similar fate happening to the hartford armory remington 1875 replicas
If I remember right there was a vidio on that gun showing how well it was made by demonstrating pulling the barrel forward and letting go. The barrel snapped back into place under suction being so closely machined the vacume pulled it together.
Interesting weapon . I remember as a kid when all the Westerns pretty much utilized Colt single actions and model 92 Winchesters . I thought then those are the guns the Guns of the Old West , Much later in life as a teen I discovered there actually were a large variety of different firearms used in the Old West and the knowledge of their existence gave me much joy with fascinating facts . Enjoyed this video . Well done 👏
That was a very interesting video! I wasn't familiar with the Merwin Hulbert revolver. I've probably seen them in a movie or photo but I assumed it was a Schofield revolver
Definitely an interesting and cool looking revolver but I would have to agree that a Smith & Wesson would be the one to have if you were in a situation where you needed to load / unload quickly . Keep up the great work !!
I've got one of their pocket 32 revolvers (these really are small enough to fit in your pocket). They are nifty and very well made. If you pull forward on a well fitted barrel and cylinder, it will create enough vacuum in the cylinder rod tube that it forces the barrel and cylinder assembly to close again on its own.
Cool video! I got a 1880 frontier model in 44-40 says 73 Winchester as the caliber. Its beat up and missing some parts. I bought it from the inlaws of some guy named Robert Gelispie aka Arkansas Bob. Dont know who that is. He died early 20s I got his rifle also a 1903 25-35 Winchester 94 saddle carbine with the 3 leaf express sight and marbles tang sight. Also beat up.
Good morning Arizona Ghost Riders. It is Ted from Texas. I just realized I forgot to comment on your video. I definitely enjoyed the shooting videos and seeing and learning history of old guns it is my passion and I just wish collect Revolutionary War weapons. Thank you man stay safe and Merry Christmas
