A powerful and inspiring speech by the Hollywood legend, Meryl Streep. Many ppl disapproved him for the exactly reason that "disrespect invites disrespect" and "violence incites violence."
He's a spoiled brat that whines and cries everytime he doesn't get what he wants and that's a lot. He's a complete fool and the desperately self loathing women that flock to him are even sadder than he is a moron. Do you know he's such an idiot he asked Bill Gates what was the difference between hpv and hiv?? I mean Aman wh@re asking what hiv is? Are you kidding me?
Brilliant! I never grow tired of watching this and the message in it. It will be as timeless and remembered as much as these divisive times will be. So glad she gave this important honor the opportunity to speak her outrage.
Powerful Meryl! U r a legend! Not only because your stunning performance but for your Powerful speech. Inn courage all to be more able to empathy.. u r amazing! Thanks for that
Vince Vaughn and Mel Gibson seem like they don’t agree, it shows on the faces of the ones that don’t like her words. Beautiful woman inside and outside.
The BEST speech ever: I had a son that was incredibly handicapped and I cannot BELIEVE that a setting President of the United States would publicly “make fun” of this kind of person. This reporter did not ask to be handicapped, it is the way God made him just like God made my son handicapped, and by the way, my son succumb to his handicap. So, I will ALWAYS love her for giving this speech and throwing HIM under the rug….. love me some Meryl Streep.
I know numerous handicapped people, ones with CP, ones in wheelchairs, deaf people and not one wants to be put in a box and treated like no one can say anything to them get annoyed with them etc!.
The people who call differently abled people disabled see those people first as disabled and I will repeat myself I personally know disabled people and they don't want to be identified as disabled, it sets them apart and makes them be seen as " different" and not in a good way! Trump actually treated that reporter like he treated ALL reporters who bugged him, you know that's a fact! He just flailed his arms and then went on to say his the guy was bugging him by asking the same annoying question over and over.
A tough speech to be remembered years down the road, when we need to know what it felt like...as America lost its mind. And don't miss that death stare by Vince Vaughn at 5:13, who really didn't want this spring of clean frigid alpine water to upset his evening. Meryl's name will be spoken 100 years from now.
Wow, I just read your eloquent comment. Spot on. And both Vince Vaughn and Goofy sitting behind him are priceless in their facial expressions. Yes, Meryl is a marvel.
Remember when Meryl Streep was clapping like a sealion when Roman Polanski won for The Pianist? Looking around, hoping he was in attendance. And then she tears down Mixed Martial Arts. A profession with one of the most inspiring women in sports history, Rose Namajunas. This acceptance speech hasn't aged the best.
@@ImageNationProject So??? You can't criticize a stupid profession just because it's also a profession of an "inspiring woman"? So I guess I was wrong about being so critical to the Nazis, since they were so good to Leni Riefenstahl's talent... And why in the world wouldn't Meryl (or anyone) clap for Polanski's The Pianist? Have you seen it? Have you any idea what this film is about? If not, let me give you a spoiler, Mr or Mrs Opinionated: It was about much more than some flirt with a 14 year old.
First, can we all laugh at the fact that the Golden Globes YT channel isn't even verified..? Second, I doubt I've ever seen a less organic comment thread. Did you actually pay people to make these comments, or were they made by interns?
I couldnt have put it better myself! What gives anyone the right no matter what position of power they may hold to look down or make fun of anyone and particularly vunerable people that cant defend themselves? It tells me what a weak and cowardless human being they are with no empathy or compassion!
See there you go painting that man and others who are so called, perfect as being weak, vulnerable, sad and must be protected by others giving it back to them when they start in with others, first! You are treating him like he's not like everyone else!.Please go out and befriend the so called disabled people among us, see if they want to be treated as a,fragile glass figure who you cannot kid around with, can't get mad at, etc, you'll learn very quick they want you to treat them like everyone else. Would you like to have others seeing you as,different, as vuknerabke, as unable to take criticism or jokes! No you want to be treated like everyone else! And if my disabled friends start in with me, yep they're getting it back like they just gave it to me like I do with all my friends!
Do you actually know any handicapped peopoe, or do you just see handicapped people out in public on tv etc and decide how they want to be perceived and treated? I know personally know some disabled people and they want to be treated like everyone else, not treated as though oh no you can't say anything to them, can't get kissed at them, can't make fun of them!.That reporter kept bugging Trump asking the same question over and over and he, in the past liked annoying Trump, like typical liberal reporters do, so Trump gave it back to him!.All Trump did was flail.his arms.and say the words the guy kept saying over and over again!
@@VanessaNoname-lb2dc it would be counterproductive, and a waste of time for both of us, to discuss this further. We would never reach an agreement. I wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy new year. Peace ✌️🤤🌈
I remember he used his voice as well to sound like the man was mentally challenged, which he was not. Stop trying to rationalize horrid behavior. On that one incident I judge all who continued to support him.
This is one of the most powerful speeches ever. Same exact speech needs to be said to Korean President Yoon for setting terrible examples and giving permission to the public to be ok with rediculous behaviors.
More powerful than oh say The Sermon on the Mount, or Rev Martin Luther Kings I Have a Dream Speech? Meryl there's an actress a woman who pretends for a living, says other peoples words, and she here, used her, came as a political tool! Not cool and not a powerful speech, far from it!
Thank you Meryl for speaking out when we all should have been OUTRAGED too! Shame on us for even letting him and his FASCIST minions to hold any power whatsoever. Imprison the Trump Insurgents for life!
And my relatives loved Donald Trumps imitation of that disabled man….voted for him! I lost them & I didn’t grieve! One such relative of mine went on to say,(simply bc Ms Streep voiced this opinion)she’s so ugly & didn’t she play Mrs Doubtfire in Robin Williams movie!? Hatred like THAT started with Donald Trump!
something very similar is happening in india , Modi (PM of india ) is a worse and darker version of trump, and has changed/influenced minds of people (especially in urban areas ) like you mentioned in your comment .its very relatable.
@@VK-kn3fz thank you! It’s nice to know I’m not alone! In all my life(78 yrs)I’ve never been a mean spirited or unkind person,& I’m VERY ashamed to admit this, but what I feel for Donald Trump is something akin to hatred! I’m so sad bc I think I’m turning into a mean & bitter woman!
Remember people this is just an actor, She has no college degree, most notable a political science degree. She just pretends to be other people for a living. These actors are among the most unitelligent and naive people on the planet.
Nice, try, but no go. Meryl actually earned two college degrees, including an MFA from Yale. There are intelligent actors, especially those who tackle classical roles.
you have less than 1/100th her mental capacity, her humanity, her decency - if you're human - you're in the class of the worst of the human race - as is djt
you sat here and heard a story of a man ridiculing a person with special needs and the only thing you can argue is "views"? you and trump share the same three braincells.
What does she have to say about her nephew who beat up a Latino kid so badly, while yelling out racial slurs, that now this young man has developmental issues? Crickets? Cause this isn’t the first time her nephew acts like a racist tw@t.
Why are people applauding to this? All she did was totally disrespect the award and the ceremonial. And for what? To give emotionally driven political speech? She clearly knows nothing about the topics she talks about, talks about them in an incredibly simplistic way and yet she speaks about them with the intent to influence masses. That's very irresponsible and immature of her. Yes, Trump's approach to US immigration was quite bad, no one denies that, and I am not his supporter, but that does not make this speech even remotely justifiable. And I just can't see how an adult person grounded in reality and a with a little bit of reason does not feel offended by this.
Like she "invented" the idea that actors use the platform of award shows for sending messages to the world... People actually wait for these ceremonies to hear something. Simplistic? She has a few minutes for it. And shouldn't "simplistic" be the word to describe Trump's speeches in rallyes and everywhere else in the first place? What's his excuse? Too little time? Too little manpower to help? Immature? She? Oh please, book a plane ticket and go lecture her about maturity, you showed so much of it in your comment. She'll be humbled and delighted at the same time. How old were you again? But why am I even bothering? Why discuss serious things with someone who uses words that fit perfectly Trump's behaviour ("HE clearly knows nothing about the topics HE talks about, talks about them in an incredibly simplistic way and yet HE speaks about them with the intent to influence masses. That's very irresponsible and immature of HIM") but twists them as if they described Meryl Streep?
Yet, this was 'her' moment in the spotlight. When you get a lifetime achievement award of your own (which doesnt seem likely), you are welcome to expound on anything you like.
She didn’t do her research about this. Trump was not mocking the reporter. She needs to apologize….OMG seven years too late though. What a place for PRIVILEGED HOLLYWOOD TO LIE!!! Disgusting. 🤢
Too funny that Meryl speaks out against Trump who, yes mocked the disabled reporter by imitating the mans hand movements, but if you ask handicapped people how they want to be treated they say the same as everyone else, but Meryl spoke against Trump yet she's in an industry that promotes, glamorizes and sexualizes violence! Her industry mocks MANY kinds of people, overweight people, old people, people considered unattractive etc etc!.She's in an industry that sexually abuses young actors and actresses, and many know that's going on, but say nothing so that they can continue to get acting gigs! Hollywood also mocks Christians , priests, nuns and Jesus Christ and the Blessed Mother!.She's the typical liberal hypocrite going on about Trump, but being totally mute about all.the sins going on in Hollywood!
You don't mock reporters or anyone in the crowd, when you hold the most powerful political position in a country. You talk and lead with intelligence, without theatrics and throwing dirt around. As for disabled people, if you're not one yourself, then zip it and stop regurgigating the same sentences over and over in the comment section under this video, about how disabled people want to be treated. Your constant liberal vs conservative culture battle, with nothing but left and right wing extremists squabbling endlessly on social media, makes you Americans look completely nuts as a nation.
Do you know how many people lives have been ruined by reporters, by journalists! Sometimes getting the story out there fast is more important than getting facts. Sometimes they put it out there that someone committed a heinous crime and its later learned they were innocent! Richard Jewel comes to mind, you know they accused him if being the Atlanta Olympics park bombing. And journalists now have little credibility due to the fact they have agendas and biases, a great reporter reports right down the middle, no personal opinions of theirs nor their bosses. And the media tore into Trump from day one! I applaud him for putting those dirt bags in their places!
@@VanessaNoname-lb2dc I'm absolutely with you on being critical about reporters. I am very critical about them as I'm critical about Hollywood. But the point in her speach is how poorly Trump conducted himself. If reporters are wrong then counterargue, speak facts, show composure, instead of mocking reporters.
See what I like about Trump is what his haters hate about him, he's real, he speaks right off the cuff. And I truly think reporters, most, are not very moral, they also have biases and agendas and come on, when Trump just ran for president they and Hollywood were tearing into him, mocking him, degrading him, degrading his wife and chikdren, so if he lasted out, so be it, they got what they deserved! And if you recall when covid19 first appeared a female reporter of Asian descent asked him about covid19 and he said, " why don't you ask CHINA?" That woman freaking accused him if saying that because she's Asian when everyone knows he said from day one covid19 was created in that Wuhan lab in CHINA! But that reporter decided to make him out to be some racist attacking her, she has some ego!
One of the worst type of pearl-clutching and sanctimonious speeches in Hollywood. That's also saying a lot. Lack of class. Do you know what Alfred Hitchcock said when he got an award: "Thank you"
@baddog6003 meanwhile everyone else just sits back and notices the rationalizations, deflections, excuses, and denial of the actions of the orange turd who once occupied the most powerful office in the world.
What a disappointment to find that she cannot look honestly at her own indoctrination and personal bias. TAKING ADVANTAGE OF A PLATFORM such as an awards ceremony to air one's personal political biases is an abuse of "celebrity power". Isn't that abuse an example of the pot calling the kettle black. This goes to show that despite some people achieving much expertise in an area, they can still be trapped in group think and spiritual kindergarten.
