Meryl Streep wins the 2004 Emmy Award for Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for her performances as Hannah Pitt, Ethel Rosenberg, The Rabbi & The Angel Australia in Angels in America.
You probably dont give a shit but if you guys are stoned like me atm then you can watch all of the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. I've been watching with my gf these days =)
I finally saw Angels in America yesterday, after 20 years. All the performances were great, but Meryl is really in a league of her own. She portrayed a Mormon mom, an old rabbi, and Ethel Rosenberg. It was astounding because they were all so believable.
"The bravest thing in the world is that writer that sits alone in a room and works out his grief, his rage, his imagination, and his deep desire to make people laugh, and he makes a work of art that then transforms the world with the truth - because that’s all we want, you know. That’s all we need."
I thought that I couldn’t stand Meryl Streep because I thought she would replace Hepburn and Davis in my mind as the great actresses but I actually adore Meryl because of her true versatility. She will always be tops in my books.
I think it would have been different had she been their contemporaries, but she was not, she was a different generation. There wasn’t really any “replacement” imo. Though Davis did write her that letter.
Meryl Streep is the only woman that my Dad and I have both a crush on and my Mom would just roll her eyes whenever we fawn over her while watching her movies when I was a kid 😂
Close actually never lost to Streep in an Oscar except one time- 2011. Streep won for The Iron Lady (her long overdue 3rd win) and Close was cited for Albert Nobbs.
I can't imagine anyone being in Meryl's shadow and having a problem with it. Seems like one of the most incredible and respectable positions in the world to be in.
Well technically Meryl did play four different characters that took up a lot of screen time all together. It’s like Peter Sellers in Dr. Strangelove, yes he played about 3 different supporting characters but overall he had the most screen time than any actor in the film. Similar to Meryl Streep in Angels in America.
Emma Thompson is leading in Angels..? Then why not Mary-Louise? She was much more like main character.. This is just to give Meryl the award, who was also minor character than Mary-Louise.. hmmm
Dis you not see Angel's In America? She did all of those "annoying accent roles" in this miniseries you speak of. She played a rabbi with a Yiddish accent, Ethel Rosenberg with an accent.
Meryl has won so many awards over the years that I'm starting to think she's really letting all this go to her head. She meant it when she said on stage: "But not todaaaaaaay.....!"
Right, how dare someone be proud of their incredible work, clearly anyone who's ever securely proud of themselves has an overinflated ego and should be stomped on right away 🙄 (/sarcasm) I really hope you've grown up and found some self-confidence since writing this pathetic comment
Greatest actress in the world which is why you should never believe a bit of what she says when it comes to serious topics. She could fool anyone and in fact has that she is remotely humble. She did in fact give herself away in this speech.
"......but not todaaaaaaay....." Wow, is Meryl really joking about Emma Thompson or throwing some MAJOR shade at her costar from "Angels In America"?? Emma was a no-show, so perhaps some bad blood bw the two?
