Merylou was born with her face split by a horrific cleft scarring the cente rof her head. She was brought to our hospital for an extensive 16-hour surgery to help reshape her face and skull.
Oh,my! I was born with a cleft pallet and lip on the left side. I was so fortunate to have parents who were able to afford the best medical care for me. God bless all the people who are helping these children.
I was bron with a double cleft lip and pallet. My older brother has a single. While I looked worse, his actually traveled further almost down his throat. Our sister, in the middle, has no appearance at all.

I have to say, Marylou was beautiful before the surgery. She had such a cute face before. What the doctors were able to do to build the structures in the face is amazing. The transformation of that tiny little girl who was afraid to be seen in the beginning to such a confident young almost teenaged lady. She has such a bright future. It had to be hard to leave all her new friends in California and go back to such poverty. I wonder if she will be determined to move out of poverty and show the people back home that there is more to life if you are willing to work . I pray she will grow and have a fantastic life. That she will find love and have a family of her own. Thank you to everyone who worked together to give this girl a new life.
