Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier | Blind Shootout -Comparing to the HX Stomp, AxeFx 3, Ampero and GE200

Just ordered an HX Stomp. The fact that it sounds identical to the real Mesa is awesome! Can't wait for it to get here

in these comparison, hx stomp on D it just amazing

I preferred C, A, and D. I actually own a real Dual Rectifier, and I was certain that D was the real amp. Instead of being miffed that I was wrong and preferred the sims to the real thing, this instead makes me excited at the real possibility of running a cheap gigging rig and still pulling off some killer tones. A new GE200 is less than the cost of a single tube change in my Recto. Great video, more please.

Surprisingly, I was able to spot the Recto, but being honest I really liked the Ampero, even though it behaves differently

Holy crap, I though "A" was the real amp, sounded more fully focus than the rest, pure sound like a punch in your face as a Relapse Records album. I heared the video at 1080p quality using Shure 425 sound isolating earphones

I definitely couldn't have guessed which was the actual amp, but honestly, they all sounded fantastic and it's pretty awesome that we have the luxury of having these modelers which all sound totally usable for recording or live applications and can simplify rigs immensely, so if you don't have loads of money or space, you have a totally viable option for good guitar tones.

A and B sounded the best! C comes close as well!

My favorites where A D and E, I own a helix and a Mark V 25. the ampero sounded the best to me here lol. I didn’t really know which one i did prefer depending on where you were playing on the neck. I guess some are sounding better than others within a specific frequency range. It is also really harder to actually tell the differences within a mix. I’ll try to set up my helix as well as you did here :)

What was really interesting for me personally, was that: - In the mix my favourite to least favourite was: D, C, B, E, A - In the isolated guitar tracks my opinion was completely different. My favourite to least favourite was: E, A, B, C, D. EDIT: Wow, the outcome blew my mind! Damn! 🤘🏻

okay the ampero and axe fx where amazing. I really liked the helix too. the GE was okay but not the best for my taste. they all did a great job getting the general tone and vibe

In this comparison finally I really liked the AxeFx 3 haha. I always love how the ampero sounds because it’s more scooped and has more presence than the other modelers I feel, but that’s totally personal preference! Keep it up man, really enjoy your work.

Cool video. I liked D&E the best.. My guess was D for the real amp and E for the AFX3. I'm super shocked that D was the stomp actually lol. That's a pretty kick ass little unit. I'd love to see more of these. Especially the 5150

I thought A was the real amp since i think it sounded the best by far in this comparison and i also thought the real amp was among the worst. One thing that made me chose A is that it also had the best balanced frequency response in my opinion when listening to it solo, often the real amps are better at that, but i guess its much a question of using the right EQ and IR. In the mix the difference is much smaller and clearly anyone of these would sound good. Very interesting test !

I’d love for you to share some of the EQ’ing that you did because honestly I liked the modelers better than the Recto. I wasn’t trying to pick out the real amp, instead I was listening to see what tones I like better. My preferences were A, C, B, E, D. Clearly your eq’ing can make a huge difference.

Great comparison. I've got it right just because I'm so used to the sound of a Recto. But I have to admit that they all sounded pretty good, except the Ampero, it always sounds weird. The Axe FX nailed it pretty close and again, I'm always surprised by the GE200, it doesn't sounds like a device of that price range at all.

Listening through my phone speakers this is my list from best to worst DBAEC. The result really surprised me.. Great video.. I should go back and listen to it with headphones or good speakers though..

I thought A or C were the original rec and for some strange reason I just had this gut feeling that B was the AFX3 so I was shocked when I got B right.

I thought for sure the Ampero was C. Definitely was stumped on the real Mesa. Was convinced it was A or B. Sheeeiiit. AXFXIII and Ampero sounded the best to my ears. Great vid man, keep em coming!

This was cool. I actually liked D the best which makes me very happy because I already own a stomp. Also C was my least favorite and I did own the mooer Ge200 but sold it because all the amp models either sounded thin or muffled like there was a blanket over the speaker. A sounded really good too. I’d pick up an ampero for the price they go for in a heartbeat if I didn’t already have the stomp.

B, D were my favorite but very surprised by A (ampero) Getting an HX Stomp soon. Can’t wait! Thank you!!

Damn. I knew the amp was either D or E, I guessed D ultimately, but the only one I got right was the Ampero. Nice demo.

Very interesting in this one. I liked B then D=E in this. I tend to associate the Dual Rec with more “lush” transients and all 3 of these got hat particular tone and feel I like out of a dual rec but the Axe got that best imo - nailed the whole sound the way I like it. I did notice a difference between the HX and real Dual Rec but I don’t know which I prefer, both sound fantastic.

B A C E D preference before reveal. I think E is the amp. Ey, got it right! I’m not surprised D was my least favorite. As an HX Stomp owner I really dislike the Mesa amps on it. Considering the actual amp was my second least favorite maybe I just don’t like Mesas as much as I thought ha

It’s amazing how much the Ampero and Axe FX sound some much alike…. And being such a huge difference in cost.

My favorites where D, E, B, A and last one C. Actually I'm surprised, I don't want to trust in Line 6 but it's hard with all the videos I've seen. Maybe I'll buy that thingy

Great video and really well put together! The main takeaway from this is that the Mesa Cab Clone isn't a great load box to use - especially since Rectifier's are REALLY sensitive to the load as they have no negative feedback. If you still have access to the Rectifier, it would be great to hear a version taking a DI from the amp output while it's connected to a Mesa Boogie Cabinet. Putting it under a proper cabinet load will make it sound and respond much more like it does in a regular situation. My favourite tone here was the Helix - the low end was really full and suited the parts nicely. BTW, I have done some similar videos and despite Helix being modelled on a 3 channel Rectifier, it was the closest sounding emulation to my Rev G (STL was pretty close too). I have an FM3 arriving this week so Im excited to hear how that fares. Great video, there arent enough demonstrations like this

Appreciate the re-amp method of doing this. I've seen too many of these to expect to pick out the real amp. :) I can say during watching I liked A,B,D the most.

I liked D and E the most. Especially the D. And it's Stomp! I'm happy with this, because I had Stomp and now have Helix LT. Love fullness of Cali Rectifier in Helix

in the matter of fatc.. only amp C was a deception.... and this I thougth to be de GE... the Ampero has a killing sound... and the HX the most reliable sound I guess. congratulations for your video !!

B and D were my favorite. D is my number 1 favorite. E sounds very similar to D but less high frequency.

The Best for me was D, C than E. I think to combine the real TS with a Modeler is a great solution between digital and analog parts

Yes, I nearly got it right. Couldn't decide between D or E being the real amp, until I heard the isolated tracks. Isolated I heard the throatiness of the Rectifier in E. And I was sure that D would be the HX Stomp then. I thought C would be the Axe FX, but wasn't sure enough. I'm not an expert of modelers, but for Rectos ;-) Btw. the HX Stomp seems to do a very good job, overall.

I got the real one right! But I liked B better. I'm glad since I play a Fractal FM3. HX Stomp was actually pretty good too.

My guesses based on how do you make the units sound... A - Ampero B - Real Rectifier C - Helix D - AXE FX-III E - GE200 Ooooh, at least I know how my unit sounds haha

I liked A-C-E, had nfi which was the real deal between A-E, I preferred C as it would cut thru in a 2 guitar band, I'd probs add some lows/low mids to fatten it a little...big surprise was how I didnt like the axe fx or Hx, these 2 were at the top of my list for my next purchase, will seriously consider the Mooer

The first time i like E>D>B>C>A The second time i like E>D>B>A>C

What is interesting is that I am slowly starting to suspect that my axe fx ultra is still great compared the the axe fx III. Yeah, it is likely an upgrade of course, but I don't know if it is 2 grand worth of an upgrade. Great vid again though dude, enjoy the comparisons.

GE200 (C) is very easy to identify because it lacks low frequency. The others I couldn't tell but I wouldn't mind any of those.

Great video! I guessed 2/5 right. Helix has it's own sound (ie. Stock cabs aren't that good, coming from a helix user) and Ge200 was a bit flat. Really surprised I guessed Axe for Ampero and Real amp for Axe. Something to think about...

I have a helix floor and I've had a dual rec roadster, recorded it sounds great, in the room through a power amp and real speakers its not even close!! I hate to say that because I really would love to not have the urge to buy another dual Rectifier haha

a moer or ampero b helix or axe c ampero or moer d axe or helix e mesa? well i was on right way :D i was not sure about which one so one of those. btw in derection from best = E D B c a but in mix all sounded fine.

To my ears D sounded best-- it had a nice balanced sound, and I detected no digital harshness in the mids. B had a weird digital fuzziness to the distortion, and C sounded tinny and undefined. A sounded really good in the mix, but the midrange harmonics sounded a bit squeaky. E had a nice distortion character, but it sounded distractingly dark, like it hadn't been properly EQ'd, that's probably the fault of the test, not the device itself. My ranking: 1. D 2. E 3. A 4. B 5. C EDIT: Ha! Of course one of my least favorites was the AXE-FX, the one I actually own and love. Just goes to show how good all of these are getting, and how tweaking can work wonders.

😂😂 so funny, I thought the actual Mesa was the worst sounding! Imho the Ampero en AxeFX are the best. (That's why I own an Ampero 😉).

My favorite was b which makes sense since it’s your main live gigging modeling amp. D was awesome also e was cool too I totally agree with you on tube amps. I’m really digging the hybrid amps these days tho like the darkglass and revv. Fun fact I’m a bassist. I use a hx stomp for effects and a back up amp and use a darkglass 500 v2 as my main amp with a Mesa 2x12 bass cab

to be fair. in the mix either of them sounds better than most of what people call the holy grail of metal music that was produced in the 80s and 90s lol

Before I saw end D and E were my favorite with A and B a very close second.... would be happy with any of the 4.... C I dont like at all! Now on to the end!

Helix sounds surprisingly boxy and flat in this comparison 😳 Ampero sounded the best to my ears, most flattering sound.

Nailed it...the hx stomp and ampero surprised me tho.

I knew it was either D or E right from the start. And when to results came, I was surprised to see how close the hx stomp actually is. I couldn't tell which was which. I had no idea. Good video

hmmm, they all did a great job, axe fx and hx my favourites. I thought d might be the amp, it was my favorite, though e was my next guess, not that I preferred the tone, just sounded like an amp.

My favs were in this ordes D,E,B,A,C

loved the dark sound of D. didn't like E. B sounded the most balanced. A was a bit on the bright side but also really nice. C was too thin. ranking: D>B=A>C>E edit: well i guess i don't like the rectifier. stomp sounded fantastic, especially in the mix. props to the ampero for hanging in there with way more expensive units.

From my experience with dual rectifiers you could put 2 of the same real amp side by side with slightly different fabrication date and they would sound much different and people would arguee wich one is best. (Before looking the results All sounded very good, the C was the sounded worst to me nothing tragic. A sounded the best, so I guess is the real deal)

i have real surprise from hx stomp in the mix, seems to sound less muddy

Picked out the axe fx, the hx stomp and the mooer. Preferred Ampero, HX and actual amp, especially in the full mix. Actually think the hx panned hars one side and any other of these modellers to the other side, would get a really nice complementary tone. Ever tried to mix and match?

I preferred D which shocked me cause I have the HX Stomp and I'm a Helix guy. Hated C and didn't care for E. Loved this video. Was an eye-opener for me. I wasn't trying to guess at all. Just choosing what I preferred and loved. As I said, I was really shocked. But it goes to show that I'm playing on the equipment that I truly love. Not just what everyone else is playing.

That's funny because for me B and E was the same, and was the best... The C was the worst by far, A was too scooped and D was pretty good but not natural enough to my ear!

Man that ampero kept up, the ge200 was super easy to identify. Everything else sounded great. I actually though A was the line 6 and B was axefx but was so close.

Hey Taylor thanks for the video. I think when it comes down to it the end result is what matters. Can you make a video strictly on the end results and can you include the Mooer GE150 and see if it can actually get good end results to the Axe FX and the actually Mesa if possible? It would help me out a lot as I have a GE150 and am wondering if it is worthy of keeping up with the high end stuff. Thanks brother \m/

I was wrong. The clip I thought that was the worst sound happened to be the dual rectifier. The best sound clip was the axe fx iii.
