Implicit ack from another node means a node (not necessarily your other one) received the message and sent back an acknowledgement. Great video 👍🏼😁

The key to these things anywhere that's not big wide open areas is having a lot of nodes, and having at least a few of them up very high. I am working on designing an enclosure system that can be placed AND removed via drone, so imagine the possibilities :)

The ham radio dudes do a lot of stuff this way: wrist rocket slingshot fitted out with lead fishing weights and with an open spin reel mounted on the thing. Loop it over a high branch, pull the repeater up, lower it down later when the field exercise is over. Most people don't look for tech high up. Fishing line and weights are cheap.

InnerCity: may I also suggest using a 3D printer to make LoRa enclosures that look like a piece of garbage or a random stick or other innocuous items that don't catch the eye.

@@suzyamerica4679 I was just thinking to myself about making one that is based on those fake cans that are actually "safes" that you see at the store every now and then. I mean, it would have an antenna sticking out of it most likely but at least it wouldn't be a glaring plastic box. :D

@@innercityprepper I thought about that too. So you would have a tiny antenna within the thing itself, and, somewhere nearby but better out of sight, the router or repeater that passes info back to the net. Meaning automated telemetry about the passing of vehicles and other sensor data. Edit: are you familiar with the notion of the short message codebook as used by U-boats to report (essentially) location & sensor data into very few characters? Same thing applies here too. A little local processing to summarize the sensor data (flickering shadow; passage of vehicles, how big, direction; significant thumping or rumbling or noises; etc) and squirt off a few bytes. Even better, since this is a mesh net, the point from which you receive the data ultimately and pass it on could be very very hard to find. Also figure out what the intel loss is if the devices themselves are removed and examined. Hence that nearby repeater which is higher up and hard to find.

Unknown device means it has detected a node not in your node database (another user in the area) it hasn't resolved all of the info such as name, location etc. After a while it will usually resolve that info if that node stays within range of your device.

You should, Sean! It’s pretty interesting stuff and may be a good option for off grid comms with non-hams

Thank you for showing your homework on this stuff. Our group does some outdoors stuff in a high-relief wooded landscape area about 20 square miles. As much as 1300ft elevation changes in that space. Deep creek valleys. Heavily forested. We're looking to bring comms and some automated telemetry in there. Awaiting some devices in the mail.

Thanks for watching! Yeah, terrain is a big factory with these LoRa nodes. But if you know the lay of the land, you can make it work well.

Great videos! Just one suggestion. Drop the noisy, annoying background music. For me, it competes terribly with what you are saying. Thanks!

They're only good at LoS because of how low their output power. That frequency is plenty low if there was some wattage behind it. 😅

To both you and AndyKirby, im trying to range test. On the rover Rak i go to config settings and set to 15sec. Nothing (seq#) appears on Base Rak. Could you do a video on using the RANGE TEST feature please, cheers Troy in Oz
