Shane, fantastic video! Thanks so much for your honest feedback. This type of feedback is exactly what I'm looking for to making a better solution. I've been getting a ton of great suggestions on additional information to add to the base guide, as well as for expansion modules that you can add to it based on your needs. I also definitely agree with you that not everything is applicable to every ham. I personally have tailored my own guides (I have a couple in various locations) based on the needs I think I will have. For example, I don't personally participate in ARRL contests, so that info came out for me. But if you are big into contesting, that info might be helpful. It's designed to be a modular starting point that, like you mentioned, can be customized based on your use case. It's also true that paper can get lost or (eventually) destroyed, but the same can be said about our field computers. Batteries die; screens get cracked; Windows decides to do all the funky things it likes to do at the most inconvenient times. The reason that I originally built the Field Reference Guide for myself was as an offline backup for "just in case..." whatever that scenario might be (of course as a convenience side reference since I'm also carrying an FZ-M1 like you and the screen is tiny). It's definitely not a one-size-fits-all solution, just as no individual radio, computer, vehicle, etc. is a perfect solution for everyone. I have definitely received feedback about the RITR binders and while it's a good, affordable solution, I am working on bringing out guides that come with better binders. I personally also use a BattleBoard binder, since they definitely have more capability and durability in the field. Of course there is the increased cost factor. Some people use these in their cars or their shack exclusively, so the binding is less likely to break from use/abuse in the field; so a BattleBoard is definitely a better solution when you're doing POTA, SOTA, etc. Again, I really appreciate all of the honest feedback! - Austin from Off Grid WX

You can tell a lot of thought, time, and effort went into the Off Grid WX Field Reference Guide. Great Overview! 73, Patrick KF4LMZ

Thanks Patrick! Yes a LOT of work went into making that reference guide. It’s done very well.

Thanks for the honest and helpful review. I’m inclined to take a DIY approach for my style and needs. It’s something on a growing project list, LOL.

You’re welcome, Mike! I really think this field guide is well done. Just not applicable to most portable radio operators.

It is a neat product, but I'd rather be able to customize the info in the binder. But it is an investment to start doing my own... 73!

It is an investment to make your own field reference like this one. That is for sure. I already had a laser printer, and I can order the write in the rain paper. The big thing is the amount of time it would take to compile the data and organize it. It's just going to have be something I chip away at over time. Thanks for watching, Jeff! 73

Great video Shane. I was thinking about ordering one because of using stuff like this already on the electronic side. Maybe I will just have to put it together and print it all out. 73

Thanks Chris! I don’t want to talk anyone into buying something they don’t need, or talk them out of buying something that they want. The field guide is really good. However a good portion of the reference materials most hams wouldn’t use and, like you stated, lot of the info most hams already have in another form. Personally if I could do it over again, i wouldn’t buy one. I’d build something similar from scratch.

Battle Board makes some excellent high-quality products. I've used a few of them several times on Search & Rescue deployments and they've been great.

I can see how Battle Board products like this would absolutely shine for search & rescue activities. Very well thought out and built. Thanks for watching!

That’s pretty neat Shane. I was just thinking of something like this for when I’m out to log cw contacts, when that day comes that is. Definitely like the binder but like you said it can be tailored to what you need. 73

Thanks, Jeremy! This particular guide might not be for everyone, but the concept of using a write in the rain style binder is really appealing. Looking forward to getting a CW park to park with you! I bet we'll both be ready in no time.

I bought one of these and think it’s a great starting point that can be customized to suit your needs. I added the radio reference for my FT5. Found a good binder similar to what you have. I also added to page tabs with labels to make it easier to find what you want fast as well as you can hand it off and no questions about what is where in the binder. Part of the reason I bought this was to back a fellow veteran who is also a ham. A good part of the information I already had in digital form but never bothered to print out. AC9DJ (Jim).

I have a bigger BattleBoard. I use sheet protectors in it. And double sized fold out sheet protectors for fold out maps in 10X17 format. I am still trying to get more field card info consolidated. I want to build more sheets around propagation and antenna setup for doing things like NVIS when I need to target a certain place. Good video

Thank you! I'm pretty impressed with the quality of Battle Board. I like your ideas of info on propagation and antennas. That could be really useful info to have on hand. Thanks for wathcing!

Like other hams on RU-vid. I've been told I'm a bad influence. 😆

Ha! Far, far from a bad influence for me. I've found the items and info you share to be very useful. I ordered some write in the rain paper following your Amazon link. Hopefully the commission will be enough to get Augie a treat 😁 He's a good boy! Thank you for watching and your support, Tom!

I'm still waiting for mine. Luckily I'm a big Winlink user, and also always forget how to use my 857D (I got the supplemental manual for the FT-857).

@@Scout75PortableRadio To be honest, it's been 4 weeks now and no word on delivery. Starting to get a little annoyed. That reference guide was not cheap.

I know what you mean. If only there was a link to a blogpost with more videos, links, pitches and details. That would be pretty cool.
