LoG riffs aren't too bad, especially compared to others. The Faceless for example, have some *terrifying* riffs. Conquering Dystopia has some bangers too. A LOT of these newer bands as well...just to get attention and show off sometimes, which is dumb. I actually prefer their 7 string stuff now. “Nothing” is what made me get an 8 string guitar, but the older stuff seems much more chaotic and frantic. Plus, the fact that Dick could actually play an octave below them, gave the early stuff such a more heavy visceral punch.

@@Divine_Serpent_Gehthey had Peter nordin on the first few albums and his tone was monstrous. With a little bit of fiddling it could easily fit in with the really modern metal stuff. I’m not a huge fan of the newer bass tones especially when they used to have something that nice.

Honestly, I always found them quite repetitive. Great technique, but not enough progression for me. It turns into ambient noise pretty fast.

Not being a guitar expert myself, is there any actual evolution in the way these bands write riffs you feature in this video series or is it just a collection of your favourite riffs over their career? Would be interested to learn of any technical development that constitutes progression in these bands’ music.
