Okay, so, months ago, a follower requested that I transcribe and perform Frederick Thordendal's two incredible solos from the Meshuggah song "Marrow" (Koloss, 2012). It has been THE. MOST. CHALLENGING. EXPERIENCE. But I finally got it.

Hey everyone: I also wrote an in-depth analysis of this solo, which you can find on my website: www.briankrock.com/post/2018/06/22/frederick-thordendal-is-a-monster (FYI: as some people have correctly pointed out, I slowed the track down to learn it, and gradually brought the tempo back up over time. I never did reach the full tempo! I'm playing it at 134bpm and the original track is at 150bpm.)

i'd still wish though that he'd be less linear with his lines, a bit like on DEI or even his solo record. maybe wouldn't fit most M songs but every once in a while breaking it up a bit couldn't hurt. I feel these days every meshuggah solo is just linear note patterns stacked on top of each other....don't get me wrong, it sounds awesome most of the time and it always fits but a bit more....variance, i guess? couldn't hurt

This is phenomenal! To not only transcribe these leads, but then play them flawlessly is beyond impressive! I also think that hearing his solos played on a woodwind makes it easier to hear the tasty rhythms he slips into his solos. Syncopated 16th note lines with a sextuplet in there, or quintuplets, etc. Thank you for sharing!!

That's a Yamaha Custom EX. Favorite soprano I've ever played on! The mouthpiece is kinda mysterious. It's a Ponzol, but the labeling has worn off so I don't know much about the specs. Thanks for checking it out!

Yes! I had thought that I made mention of that in the description to the video, but now I can't find it anywhere. This was so many years ago that I now can't remember exactly how much slower it is. I can't play it full speed!
