The Royal School of Church Music's 1992 Young Chorister of the Year, Fiona Wright, performs a solo arrangement of G.F. Handel's 'He Shall Feed His Flock,' an air from that composer's beloved MESSIAH. The aria takes its text from the Books of Isaiah and of Matthew.
In 1992, fourteen-year-old Fiona and twelve-year-old Gavin Moralee bested 2000 other young church, chapel, and cathedral choristers in their victory in the Royal School of Church Music's Young Choirboy and Choirgirl of the Year competition. Fiona, who sang in numerous youth choirs, was a chorister in the chapel choir at Sutton Valence School at the time of her win in the RSCM competition. Gavin, meanwhile, was a chorister at St Barnabas' Church in Dulwich, where, in 1991, he was appointed Head Chorister.
After a successful stint as a soloist in the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, Fiona attended London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama and launched a musical career that has included solo work in Dublin-based vocal group Anuna, RIVERDANCE, and Michael Flatley's LORD OF THE DANCE. In early 2013, she will launch an solo album of classic and original tracks.
Fiona is joined on this recording by the Rosebury Chamber Orchestra.
[ Text ]
He shall feed His flock like a shepherd;
and He shall gather the lambs with His arm,
and carry them in His bosom,
and gently lead those that are
Come unto Him, all ye that labour.
Come unto Him that are heavy laden, and
He will give you rest.
Take His yoke upon you, and learn of Him,
for He is meek and lowly of heart,
and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
