It seems so easy and we usually complains when we live with parents/elders and “I’ll do it my own way & better” when in reality life, work, relationships, hobbies, Time 😒 do get in the way or we let it and we end up worse mess than we intended 🤣

Never store your spices next to the stove. It's the absolute worst place for them. They should be in a cool dry place, with little exposure to light or heat to keep them fresh. Also never buy spices in bulk, unless it's something you are using a lot of every day. They will go stale long before you use it all. But other than that it was beautiful.

Agreed. Everything my family stored above the stove, and below the hood got sticky and covered in strange oils. It was gross touching them. We had to clean them up and move them to a different location.

I don’t know how but my guess is that you should start small with helping your family first, and maybe doing it for free so that you are able to show what you able to do and then branch out to family friends, and friends etc. begin showing others about your work through social media, but once again it’s just my guess!:)

Definitely start an instagram! And like Elle said if you have a back log of spaces you’ve organized you got start gigging part time, posting examples on FB market or Craigslist or Nextdoor! I know I would for sure hire someone to help with my awful linen closet situation

The only problem with decanting is that when it starts to get low then you need to buy a box but you want to finish using up what’s in the container first and wash it before the new box goes in and now you have to store the decanter and a box of whatever food it is. Plus you have to be willing to be someone who will decant in the future, sometimes people are just too busy for that.

Yasss 👐I'm a low/ zero waster and I love bulk Barn ! I only buy what I need in my jars and then I put them directly on the shelf when I get home :D so easy and it's easier to buy flours and stuff this way because I don't make as much of a mess

I love this but the spices hurt my heart. Spices are best kept in the dark away from heat and the put them in a clear container by an oven/stove. They have the same spice jars but in opaque brown. Use those.

True, but with small jars they will likely get used up faster since they're not lost in big cupboard and then fresh stuff bought frequently. At least that's what it looked like to me- stuff more utilized was out on shelf.

🗣Peanut butter granola, nuts, rolled oats, pasta, flour, quinoa, spices, and other dry goods can ALL be bought in bulk if you have bulk shopping near you! I know LA has a lot of bulk resources. Perks: ✨you don’t have to decant them at all! ✨less packaging goes to landfill! ✨it’s CHEAPER (~15% of food prices go to packaging)! ✨you can buy the exact amounts you need!

recoil53 We’re talking about the type of bulk shopping where you bring your own container (any size) and scoop the amount you want to buy into that container. The store buys the products in bulk, the customer decides how much to purchase for themselves. We’re not talking about buying “in bulk” at Costco or similar stores, where you leave with 10 pounds of spice in a plastic jug.

It's a bad idea to put spices above the stove, not only because they're meant to be stored in a cool, dry place but also they could fall off really easily on that small skinny shelf and possibly shatter

I love love love decluttering and functional organization! But I have some critics on the solutions and some alternatives (apart from spices): - WASTE produced in pouring one product in another one which is identical, just a bit better looking - food clear container: they're good, but the name tag it's useless because you can clearly recognize what's inside. Better to use a paper tag on (which you can re-write) when you're not sure and stick it on the cup to keep the container clean as the others w/o the tag. Same with shelves: you just have to look where is the category you need, you won't even pay attention to the tag. You also avoid further trash when changing tags. - DON'T use organization systems with a certain fixed amount of slots for things (ex. spices) because it is limiting if you have more than that number, and eccessive if you have less, in both cases the result is messy. *sorry for my English, It's not my mothertongue

I know it may be counterintuitive to label everything that's in clear containers, but whenever you have people over it's so worth it! That way they won't be asking you where's the salt, the sugar, the cornstarch or flour, etc. they can just read them! also, having the labels on them can make you notice when you've run out of something, for me that happens especially with legumes

Ok, so every time I see a declutter and/or diy organizing and decor video I get SUPER upset about the way they always put open shelfs with glass things over them that have no room to move or don't have something that stops them from falling. I know its kinda silly, but I live in a country where earthquakes are really common and no one would ever dare to put a shelf like that LOL they wouldnt last a month

Doubt it; everything here is just for "show", not for best function or practicality. As per most "organizers" they remake a kitchen having never cooked in their life, or re-do a sewing room not knowing the first thing about sewing or the supplies required. When you go to add more things, you can pour out the bottom into another bowl (or whatever), pour in the newer one, and then pour the old stuff back in, that way the older stuff is on top, and gets used properly. Holy shit run on sentence 🏇

I thought I was the only one who thought the spices should be on the opposite side/ away from the stoves. I learned that from my mom not realizing the real reason, also keep in the dark, sun will damage spices.
