My mommy friends and I organise a swap-night every now and then. Everyone brings the clothes their kids have outgrown, which can be used by someone else's kid. It's a good reminder to clean out the closets frequently and it gives us moms a nice moment to catch up and chat.
The saddest "declutter" ever is when you and your twin grow up, choose to live in different places, are packing up, and suddenly realize your wardrobe will decrease by half.
"Climate has no effect on growth in humans, but seasons do! Boys and girls grow more in the spring and summer than in the autumn and winter. In addition, children produce more growth hormone during the first hours of sleep than during the day." WEIRD, (I just Googled: "why do kids grow the most in the summer")... but seems to be true! MY eleven year old is going through a HUGE growth spurt it's been super noticeable. 🖤
🖤 When my kids were younger I always had a “grow into bin”. Now they are teenagers and the trends change too quickly. I wish we could go back to “cool” not being a thing 🤣
Natalie!! I finished decluttering the last area in our house yesterday... our basement!!! It feels amazing!! I'm doing some dropoffs today to charities, etc., and then everything will be GONE! Thank you for all the motivation over the last several months. Your videos are always a joy to watch and I look forward to what you'll post next! 🖤
I so wish I could use clearance and stock up, but I’m at the point where my boy will grow 2-3 sizes in a season, and I never know what size he will be and what season, I’m in Michigan so I shop spring/summer and fall/winter. So the best I can do is just shop sales.
This was so satisfying to watch and totally motivating! I really need to get in to my boys dressers and go through their clothes… But I’ve been dreading it! Thank you for giving me the courage!!!! 🙌🏻
I have a grow out of box in my laundry room. That way when things are getting small they get taken out. My once a year purge of their closets is much smaller. I recently shopped at Once Upon A Child (a consignment store) and got clearance items for super cheap. I got most of my items for a buck or less.
I used to be able to just buy a size or 2 up then my son started growing too fast and at almost 10 is now in 18 and men's small. I miss being able to buy stuff cheap ahead of time.
🖤🖤 I feel like my son currently has no clothes. To be fair, he’s one, it’s super hot, and we’re home all the time so he doesn’t wear a lot of clothes anyway. But I’m excited to get him some clothes for the fall and winter. He’s turning into a little toddler and his clothes are changing with him and my heart can’t really take it 😅
I’m a boy mom but we haven’t gotten to the underwear/ potty training phase but could you tell me the ‘if you know you know’ info; so I can have a heads up and can prepare
Love a bit of thrifted kids clothing. I like to buy preloved bits as they get so little use before they grow out of them. Must try end of season sales.
I recently have given up on pj’s and now let my daughter wear clean clothes after her bath every night. Less laundry and keeps sheets cleaner longer. We had so many pj’s so we kept just a few. Boys’ clothes are sometimes not soft enough to sleep in.
Wait, so the clothes she's going to wear the next day she wears to bed the night before? Also, how do the sheets stay cleaner? This is thought provoking lol maybe genius lol
@@mamallamaandthelittles , She showers and puts freshly washed clothes on every night to get in a bed that has no pollen/household dust where she used to wear pj's a couple nights until they smelled sweaty or that daughter would throw a pair down the laundry chute every night =(. Also, hanging out in pj's for hours would mean she would often have more air born stuff on her clothes and her allergist talked about fresh clothes being really important especially during allergy season. Now I only have 7 shirts, shorts, 7 underwear a week and I only wash sheets every 2 weeks (pillow cases weekly) because she never climbs into bed with pj's that she may have swiffered the floor with (accidentally) and my family has a lot of allergies and we live in a dry and dusty climate in an old house with not dust-proof windows. This new plan started because my daughter has some OCD characteristics and was struggling to get dressed for school every morning. I was kind of joking, "Do I need to have you sleep in your clothes so we can make it to school on time?" and then thought, "Why not?" I had only had them sleep in their clothes when we were getting on a plane at 5:30 AM. 95% of my daughter's clothes are soft anyways like Pj's (the random days she wants to wear harder denim shorts, she sleeps in her underwear and we make sure she has a robe nearby as I did have a fire in the middle of the night as a child) and when she wears leggings and needs a skirt, she just adds the skirt in the morning. This would be harder for boys (I raised 2 older sons) with cargo shorts, but you could still wear a clean t-shirt to bed. However, I will say having raised teen boys, they can sweat all day and night during much of puberty and washing their sheets weekly is the only thing that takes the sweaty stench out of their room! I never minded washing more clothes as at least their room didn't smell then. I also have my daughter wash her feet if she takes her bath, then eats dinner and walks around the house and the floors are not ideal. So, she sticks her feet in the bathtub and swishes water around to at least get the soil off so it doesn't end up in her bed. In the winter when it is less dusty and really cold it is too hard on our skin to bath every night, so I wash sheets a little more often as I have her bathe every other night. Sorry, so long, but hope this is clear. Also, She has 3 pairs of Pj's that we kept for fun and some times I let her wear those to bed when I know we are not going anywhere the whole day under covid =) )
I am no stranger to the neverending kid clothes shuffle! I have 7yr, 5yr, 3yr and 1yr olds and I'm due with my 3rd daughter in December! It seems like I'm always shifting clothes in my kids' dressers. I love these videos. My kids get very attached to old clothes too! 🖤
🖤 binge watching your last few videos! I started clearing out my kids’ closets today. Busy sorting sizes to pass down to the next. Love the way you do closets!
I have been finally taking this approach for Fall/winter with my 17 month old. I think he is mostly outfitted minus a few pieces for most of the cooler weather. I may need bigger clothes if the cold season lasts longer and he grows fast😆 anxious to grab some things for warmer weather, but a little nervous to guess his growth!
I feel like my daughter only wears her shoes for about two months and her clothes for three..? It blows my mind how quickly they grow. I find that I buy a size up most of the time too, because of length 🤦🏻 they make little girls’ clothes way too short these days
MJ I never buy the shoes in advance because their feet aren't as easy to predict! (And shoes have to fit just right whereas clothing can be oversized for a while!) It's crazy how fast they grow!
🖤🖤🖤🖤 I love this Nat, such a great motivation for me today! I did this with you back in February in my bedroom and over the last couple weeks with my birthday happening...my room is a total mess again 😂 so this is exactly what I needed to kick my butt in gear and clean, love you bunches!
Can't wait to actually get started on my little guys grow into bin, he's only 10mo so predicting what his size will be is hard right now. However, I'm pretty sure I will be spot on for the Christmas Burts Bees pajamas I got him in January on clearance for this upcoming Christmas! 🙌 🖤
Love the Grow Into bins. I did that and it worked great...until my kids started having fashion opinions. 😂 My daughter was six and my son was about eight when that happened. I’d bought her a bunch of super cute jeans to grow into and then all she wanted to wear was leggings! 🙄😄
Hahaha no fashion opinions here yet, but I imagine it would be fun to shop together for the grow-into bin when they do start wanting to make choices for themselves! Fostering independence and self expression while teaching frugality! 💯
🖤 ok I totally agree with you! I keep baskets in each of my kids’ closets with clothes for them to grow into. Each time I go into them, it’s so exciting to go “shopping” in them 😂.
Nice to meet you Ms. Natalie. Yes Kendra Atkins has sent me. I also have seen similar places including Jessie At Home, another Jessi from Keep Calm & Clean, Beauty & the Beastons, Love Meg, Brianna K, Jana from AT THE SPEED OF LIFE to name a few.
🖤 I watch a lot of your videos. Especially when I’m working through letting go of things that are cluttering up my life. You have helped me let go of so much. I feel so much better being able to enjoy the people in my house. And being able to walk through the room without tripping. I have 2 children. I definitely appreciate you!!!!
I’m so glad you popped up in my suggestions because I absolutely love your videos! I’m on my journey to get rid of stuff and I’m struggling!! How do I go through kids toys my 4 kids SHARE. A room (temporarily) so they’re cramped between toys clothes and a crib and bunk beds.
Hi Natalie! This was the first video of yours that I watched, sent by Kendra, and I am HOOKED! I watched your entire Messy to Minimal series a few months ago and have recently gotten into your cleaning motivation videos. (Perfect for third trimester nesting.) Anyway, you come off as very kind and relatable, which I admire and makes me feel like we would be friends in real life. Your family is absolutely adorable and I just love watching! Thanks for making videos! -Jennifer
I'm Peggy G from Indiana, 🖤 I just watched your other video about the mom van, I drive a truck so I have to keep it clean.😃 but I really do like your videos.
My kids are 2 month old boy and 21 month old girl. We have clothing up to 4T stashed away for both of them lol. Between hand me downs, yard sales and clearance, I will buy a couple basics like plain shirts, pants, shorts or leggings, then pajamas or socks. Saves us so much money and that way when people ask what the kids need, I just tell them a size, whatever our kids are most comfortable wearing(my daughter hates dresses and prefers leggings and t shirts lol) and they can buy whatever they like in those parameters. Unfortunately my daughter has been very hard on her jammies and plain onesies and shirts so very little of hers is going to her brother lol. But the 3 boy cousins have gladly passed down a whole tote worth of clothing so he’ll be alright.
I LOVE your declutter videos they are great. My kids are in their 30s now but I always had grow into bins,It's great when you find things on sale.from your Australian freind.
Thank u for sharing! I have seen others do a no-fold technique for their kids' clothes...but I'm wondering about the wrinkle factor. Can u explain how u prevent that or even if it's an issue?
I always shop for summer one size up, because they are growing up so fast also I'm shopping right now for next year summer, and I will do the same for winter clothing.....way pay full price no need...be a smart cookie.... I always get clothing on sale that's my secret and I love it.
Been doing this for years, my oldest she will be 10 next month and she normally hits a growth spurt the same month but shes supper petit and currently can fit her tinni body into her 4.5 yr old brothers pants. Lol they are oly about 11" difference in height and shes got 20lbs on her brother. ....puberty is just around the corner for her and I'm bracing for a major jump in hight ...my daughter also loves her pjs lol
Natalie, I enjoy your videos so much. You are very classy and practical. It is nice to see someone who doesn't get name brand expensive clothes for kids that they outgrow quickly.
I've done the no fold system for years it's the best way with kids and it takes away a step in my washing/drying clothes routine. Love the messy to minimal vids
Aw! My son is 18 months and growing out of that size and into 2T, or at least 24 month. I thiiink those are the same? Anyway, it’s crazy to picture that she fits into a few items that small still! Every kid is so different!!
Where did you get haileys little white girly loose over the nappy/under a dress type shorts from i LOVE them and have been looking for them for ages! At approx 20:07
I love the idea of grow-into bin. I’ve always had pass me downs or clothes we bring from india for a year ahead but always miss them as they don’t have a designated spot in the closet. I’m also new to your channel. I love all your thought and ideas on decluttering and minimizing our possessions.
I’m excited to watch this! I just posted a video of my kids current room and I’d like to get some feedback and ideas and change some things up in my space!
Funny I just did my kids closets and took 4 big bags off to donate from there clothes mine is next and sure I will have just as much cuz I haven’t done in forever also just bought them a few new out fits
Clearance and thrifted here also However most there clothes come from last chance good will 75 cent and under and alot of it is old navy and target items if not more high end brands.. and mini things is a must cause I have 10 kids and now 2 grand daughter's so yeah even tho my daughter had her own home alot stays here
Not a mom yet, but I love the "grow into" bin idea! Such a smart strategy to save money and have future clothes ahead of time. I'm making a note-to-self for my future self with this one!
I have twin girls that are 11 1/2 and i totally wish I could still just buy clothes without their consent 😂 they refuse to share clothes and they are so picky about their style 🤦🏻♀️😂
PSA to all the moms out there. Don't underestimate the blessing of passing on hand me downs. Instead of dropping clothes off at Goodwill right off the bat, think first if you have anyone in your sphere of influence you could bless with them. I have a sweet friend who has saved me 100's of dollars because her kids are just older than mine, and she gives us their clothes they outgrow. It has been a huge blessing and a BIG money saver.
I'm so excited about this one, I just can't can't get it right for my 2y old ! Tried Marie kondo method worked for baby clothes but now they seems too big, can't wait to see what will you do Natalie, lots of love from UK xx
I highly recommend the no-fold method. My three year old puts his own clothes away. Once he started getting into his clothes I realized I didn't want to spend any extra time folding when he would undo that in 2 minutes...
Hmm not sure if this will work as I don't have that much space, I share my closet with her for dresses and jackets which is fine, and she has chest of drawers for all the rest, but I might get some bins to pit in the drawers and give it a go this way, thank you so much for your reply xx
Kind of ironic being worried about a couple of pairs of pants having holes in the knees but then buying brand new pants with the distressed/holey look 🤷♀️
girl when I say holes in the knees I mean full on there ARE NO knees in the pant anymore. A far cry from a few roughed up edges to add character to a pant. 😂
SO smart Natalie. The only thing that would make this better is if you had the store we have around here in MA. You can resell your kids clothes to them and buy more. It's like never spending money ever on clothes.
I have to know..... did he stretch his favorite jammies enough to keep? Lol. If not to wear, maybe you could turn it into a shirt for a stuffed toy or a pillow for him. He seemed pretty attached to them. 🤓
I love how you buy their clothes. What do you do with the cat and jack 1 year guarantee if you buy so far in advance? I guess sometimes you don’t get to benefit from that but you reap the benefit of the lower price by buying off-season sales.
For the RARE times I would take them up on the exchange/return, it's not nearly as much savings as when I purchase at the end of the season. People *do* abuse the system and returned the next year for the next size up but I feel this isn't an honest way of saving money. Plus, I'm not putting them in the pieces until 6-9 months later so if in that 3-6 month window of wear they get ripped or break, I will definitely hold them to that extended return policy! But overall, I think there have been a total of 3 pairs of pants in the 5 years and three kids I've bought them for so that guarantee is obviously made because the clothing is such good quality and is actually worth backing up! 😊
I always bought clothes and shoes ahead as well. I got stuck one season when both kids grew through two sizes and I was left with a ton of new clothes lucky this happened only once and I stopped buying too much ahead. TFS Cheryl
At the end of the season. Right NOW (and into the fall) for spring/summer stuff. And then after Christmas and into the early spring for fall/winter stuff!
Trying the grow into bin right now! So you are always in the look out for sales? Do you have a specific amount per month or like an amount that you spend every time? How it doesn't get out of control?
I peep the end of the season sales usually. I try not to always be shopping or else I'd spend WAYYY to much. Just because it's on sale doesn't mean I need it! I don't have a set budget but rather a specific set of items that I know my kids need each season.
Yes, like I said in the video I do pass a few things on to her. I have a friend with a little bout a bit younger/smaller than my boys and it's a blessing to pass the majority on to her!
