This year's MET gala took place in September. In this video, I explain the motto "In America: a lexicon of Fashion". And I review the worst dressed, the best dressed... and the outfits I didn't understand.
We talk about:
00:00 intro
00:41 The motto
01:36 The hosts this year
02:28 The golden age of Hollywood
03:59 American icons
05:14 Historical and cultural symbols
06:33 Making a statement
07:52 Gentlemen who went all out
08:45 When I didn't know what to think
09:31 The Kim Kardashian question

Yeah, the photos up really didn't clarify when she was speaking about only 3 of many women up. Or just having one photo up at a time, though that's a lot more work in editing.

Jordan Roth’s Coat of Many Colors was spectacular - hand sewn with appliqué and quilting techniques and so many diverse images including text about identity and pictures of eyes symbolizing seeing and being seen and maybe even sinisterly being watched; and there was also sewn in that coat the universal image of youthful innocence and ethereal beauty as painted by Botticelli. That piece of craftsmanship took the prize for me. However, for overall head to toe beauty, Lupita was my favorite. So happy you recognized her also. Love your work, Justine. First, thank you Justine for your presentation. I really appreciate your efforts. As I watched, I was most inspired by the Versace denim dress worn by Lupita. Denim, as a fabric in America, crosses evert age and socioeconomic line. It is durable, yet here, it is presented as a gala gown. Bravo! Denim may not be very eco-friendly to produce, so this pushes me toward ideas in recycling some denim. After seeing this gown, the sky is the limit as far as design. Thank you again.

that could be an explanation!

I think her dress was made of T-Shirt material and the idea was “what’s more american than wearing a T-shirt” did americans invent that material? I don’t know

@@annacamos7295 Coco Chanel was famous for using "jersey” in her early designs. That was basically t-shirt/undergarment material.

Her silhouette is an homage to plastic surgery, attainable only to the shallow and rich. Yep, quite appropriate.

Great video! Thanks for all the insights. I'd prefer to see each outfit in their own slide for a better effect, as I'm watching on my phone. But that's probably just me. Take care ❤️

Hi Justine! I love these types of review videos that you do. I would encourage you tho to highlight or frame each look while you're talking about it so that the viewer is able to better follow along with what you're talking about.

Justine I love your videos and always look forward to them! But this time I am sorry I couldn't always follow the video content, as I didn't know all celebs in their gowns. Justine, it would be helpful, if you highlight the pictures of the dresses you talk about or write the celeb-name in the picture. Thank you so much for your hard work! I learned so much from your videos :)

I liked the denim gown best. Original idea, SF gold rush era fabric, complicated enough pattern, and actually attractive. Thanks for the review!

Hi Justine! Thank you for putting this video together. I appreciate you grouping outfits this year, but I have a hard time following because I don’t know many of these people. Also, the collage photos are rather small for my eyes. Anyways, I love your videos as always!

Dear Justine, I adore your videos and enjoy looking to you to better understand fashion (as what we wear, but also as art and culture). Thank you for your commentary and insights. I think it is also worthwhile to mention that this year's met gala featured a number of first-time appearances by Asian and Asian American celebrities, such as CL who rocked a stunning Alexander Wang denim dress that embodied the American theme while featuring design elements of traditional Korean hanbok (though, very "bold" to be paired with the white underwear). Another worthwhile piece to highlight is Gemma Chan's dress by Prabal Gurung, which paid tribute to the first Chinese American Hollywood actress Anna May Wong. Sending my love from Canada! :)

The blue denim dress was my favourite. Clever and probably the only one (apart from the outfits with trousers!) I'd even attempt to wear.

Hi Justine, I love your videos. I appreciate how well researched and insightful they are. On this occasion, I think you missed a few references from the outfits that you covered, as other people have pointed out in the comments. Also, I agree that your commentary is hard to follow when referencing the screenshots. It would help if you highlight each outfit on the screen as you talk about it.
