@@prapika500 the price I pay are the commercials I have to watch. But regardless of whether I pay or not that has nothing to do with my initial reply. If you wanna be smart then say something smart and not nonsensical
3:10 as a watercolor artist, this is the first “watercolor inspired” look that *actually* looks like watercolor imo :) the sheer fabric layered over itself is like a technique called glazing, which is where you layer transparent washes of paint over each other to create interactions between colors that is unique & creates colors and effects that you can’t create by mixing paint in a palette. that dress is ✨gorgeous✨ I love the green layered over pinkish-brown, it makes such lovely earthy but ethereal colors
The number of margiella 2024 looks this year is astonishing. Imagine just how much more iconic that show will be in 10 years with this immediate reception now. Fashion really was starving, long live galliano
I have loved your extensive commentary on the Met. I also love your history lessons involved. I feel the explanation helps it make sense more for people. I was watching some high end fashion show on RU-vid and my husband commented, " who would wear that?" I said, "think about it more like moving sculpture and less about clothing." It suddenly clicked for him. He then understood why I love fashion and fashion history so much. The same way I love music and music history so much. I have a fine arts degree and worked as both a hairstylist and makeup artist. My mother has always sewn and currently competes in quilting competitions. I think the average person is unaware of the amount of work that goes into things. I sent my mother the breakdown you gave of the theme of the Met and she had a new appreciation of it. Thank you for all your research and references.
Loved every bit of this series and you definitely need to do the exhibition. I also watched your interview yesterday and wanted to say I am a boomer who's super close to Gen x and I have been enjoying your channel for six plus years. Thanks for dragging all the fashion houses along with you ❤
I always learn so much from your videos. Your fashion knowledge is encyclopaedic and thanks to you I now understand more about what I’m looking at - especially when it comes to best and worst dressed lists.
Doja's look was essentially 2 pairs of pantyhose. The bottom is self-explanatory. For the top, they just cut the crotch out and wore it upside down. Yuck!👎🏼👎🏼
Might of well have been naked! These looks just aren’t shocking anymore, they’re boring and can we stop calling them dresses/catsuits please? The most interesting thing about the model one was the blue necklace! Kendal showed how to do it with sophistication 3 times!
Thank you so much, I have really enjoyed this series and always look forward to your comments. I don’t always agree with your best and worst choices but always learn so much and am looking forward to whatever comes next. I am a fashion loving 68 year old.
Jason and the Argonauts is the story and Jason and the Golden Fleece was one of the films, I am living for the moment I can say :”Don’t love it, don’t hate it…” when someone asks me ❤😂😂😂
Necessary backstory here: My boss' stepfather was the special effects director on the Wizard of Oz. In preparation for the tornado, they tried a number of practical effects (as CGI and people recording actual tornadoes hadn't happened yet). One practical effect that proved disastrous was trying to twist gauze so that it resembled a tornado. Disaster. I'll leave the actual effect to other film historians to state, but, to me, and this might be a stretch here, but as she's coming out in Wicked soon, I feel like this is an homage to the tornado in the original film. the end.
What do these words mean lol? Is a chav like...a guido? Like they look like Paulie from The Jersey Shore? And is a scally lad like....the American version of white trash? Or like career criminals? I just want to know if I'm understanding the terms the way I think they're meant lol.
You are the ultimate for fashion critique. You have your facts and you tell it like it is and I'm loving it💕💕 you can tear them down in one instance and give them props the next. Love love love you 💕💕
Congrats on getting past the finish line Luke. If you want to do something fun in the post Met landscape I might suggest looking at some of the Made-to-measure outfits from various episodes of The Sewing Bee, after previously looking two rather lacklustre fashion design competition shows this one is just friendly home sewists having a go at fashion.
The corset that Cardi B is wearing was made by my friend Anthony Canney of House of Canney - so the skirt is only that brand, since the liquid satin skirt he originally made to go with the corset they removed and went with this one instead. They also removed the very incredibly gorgeously draped liquid satin from the corset itself, so she’s just wearing the base here. He also made the corset that went under Lizzo’s Met Gala gown, as well as Teavana Taylor’s pussy-lips corset body for her Met Gala performance.
It's a shame that she didn't wear the corset as your friend made it. In her attempt to make the corset "sexier" (I'm guessing), she just ended up making it look ill-fitting and badly made. I'm sure he was incredibly disappointed.
@@Terri_MacKay that corset was made specifically for Cardi’s Christmas photo shoot, it would have been inappropriate to wear something already worn to the met gala after party. And he wasn’t disappointed, he posted about it on his IG
@@kmfanatic I was only commenting on the comment, so I didn't know those details. I'm glad that the designer was pleased that she wore it twice in different ways.
Learning about Loewe from you has been very freeing artistically for me as a writer who brings influences from all the arts. Fashion is one area where avant-garde style is shown side-by-side with ready-to-wear and that doesn't happen enough in other arts like cinema and music and writing. Why do fashion people seem so much more ok with strangeness? Oh, and we don't deserve you.
As usual you are spot on, i would like to mention that Wisdom Kaye did a burnt Robert Wun look on the Met Gala Carpet and you are correct it was a good representation of the theme.
Hear me out, the burnt look on the red carpet, she's still holding the burnt chiffon rose, but there's a long Cruella Devil style cigarette in the other, and the large plain pendant on her necklace is an intricate clock pendant.
Thank you for the alphabetical order 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 it really scratched an itch I didn’t know I had. Don’t know if you’ve always done this and I’m just blind. But thank you ❤
Would love to see your critique of vintage fashion - true 1920's pieces (not recreations). I had a beaded flapper dress which I did not keep (so sad). True care and design. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
With the Cardi B look, the corset is actually made by House of Canney and its been repurposed from a previous look that originally had liquid organza draped all over it, revolve removed the organza and recovered it with this red which is probably why it's come out a little wrinkly, but House of Canney is an incredible corset maker and costume designer and I'm genuinely sick of him never being credited for looks that he's provided the foundation for, Kim K has wore him a couple times, Lizzo, a bunch of drag race girls etc and he never gets mentioned, only the fashion house that embellish his work or provide a different element. (Also thats totally not your fault, i mean you only have how the looks are reported on to go from)
Kendall looks a lot like Emily after all the little bits of work she has had done. So much so that I wonder if she used Emily's face as the example of what she was trying to look like.
I loved all the 5 videos, I was waiting for each one every single day. 👏🏽👏🏽 It's just so sad yet again that many aren't on theme or try to hard and look so bad. Thank you for all the info. It's super interesting. I know maybe it isn't the field, but I would love to hear your opinion on Formula 1 fashion; Monaco guests and models or just Lewis Hamilton fashion choices, I believe it's getting more and more interesting, the individual styles from the drivers are something to don't miss, almost as a red carpet walk but more relax and fun styles. 🙂
@15:28 Its more a reference of like Annie Oakley and female rodeo icons... the blue fringe and the sequin stars would have been featured on a 2 piece pant suit (possibly but unlikely skirt) with the fringe from the elbow down the back of the forearm and down the back of the pants or maybe chaps? with matching cowgirl hat and shiny six shooters on each hip... though yeah totally picking up on the beadwork too... but my first pickup when you said western was definitely the fringe (often done in darker blue leather or suede with matching the blue suede gloves to juxtapose the lighter blue of the rest of the garment) also sequin stars on the blue cowgirl boots etc...
Luke, your my spirit animal but my chav 16 year old son wears Hoodrich! Lol! Is it not a chavvie brand in the states? I almost choked on my cup of tea! 🖤
This may be a dumb question: what is an artisnal collection? How is it different from other collections? (I understand haute couture but am lost on this one) Google did not help me for some reason.
@J0su.tv0129 thank you. I was so confused if there were levels to haute couture or if it was completely a separate thing or some other option that I couldnt even imagine.
@@susan825Haute Couture is a legal term in french law, heavily regulated and registered which is likely the reason for using words such as artisanal instead.
Of course it is. I look at so many of these women in this video and all I can think of is the story of the Emperor's New Clothes. Am I the only one thinking..but they're not WEARING anything! LOL...or practically not. It's soooooo desperate.
Anytime I see Anok Yai, I just can't. She looks like a statue, a doll, a goddess, IDK what else I can use as a word. I'm sorry, but WTF was that Doja Cat "outfit"? Emily Ratajkowski's outfit I feel like could have been worn by Cher. Erykah Badu is just so intriguing to me as a person and I love her in this dress. Irina Shayk: one movie title to describe her outfit. 13 going on 30. Janelle is such a kook! Karlie and Sydney are channeling their inner Paris Hilton from the 2000s. Hate to like Kendall's look, but that angel outfit is amazing on her. I am just missing a bit of jewelry on her.
Oh Luke, with your hair in sleepy-time style, looking adorable. Your reviews are spot-on and I'm in agreement. Also, your historical references are much appreciated (Native American clothing) you don't just talk smack! You need to watch the rather campy movie Jason and the Argonauts. Jason must go on a quest to get the golden fleece so he can rightfully take the throne. Shakira, sorry, sumo-wrestler/diaper... just no. Your work is appreciated. xoxo
