Metabo HPT quietly released their new combo kit and while they won't call it compact, it's pretty compact! But how does it fair against the likes of Flex?

Metabo @ Lowes now $129, Flex $200, as it stands a no brainer. I have Makita 12V kit that i LOVE, great for all those stand on your head insane positions to drill / drive and ample power. My Bosch brute 18V hammer drill is insane but OMG the weight of the thing, it mixes a 5 gallon bucket of mud no problem and slams through concrete but not a daily driver. So is this Metabo kit to fill the gap-replace the bosch. Try to add to your testing- can it mix 5 gallon buckets of heavy Mortar, that is a test for sure.
@TinkerWithTools

It would be a good test but I am not sure I have a need for multiple 5 gallon buckets of mortar.

I have not seen these Metabo tools at my local Lowe’s. The ones my store carries doesn’t have the rubber on the front of the handle under the trigger. Maybe I was just looking at the subcompact set, though.

why did Metabo HPT underrated their tools? Metabo HPT is the only compact drill with anti kickback.
@GregBrecker
@GregBrecker Год назад
Just got a bunch of hikoki tools, I have “trouble” calling it Metabo HPT, just me. Lowes seems to be clearing out their Bosch 12 volt and Metabo HPT at most stores. Unfortunate for us in the long run, but beneficial now, I guess. Given that’s opening up a sales area for something else. Back to the point I agree Metabo HPT seems to chase market niches too much for size, rather than selection of multi volt tools period in different trade specific venues. However especially with this promotion and clearance window overlap, you are getting some incredible buys. Now I just need to stop working my regular job so much, to be able to use them. 😉
@TinkerWithTools
@TinkerWithTools Год назад
I wish they would make it just a single brand. To you second point I am not loving how much they are on clearance at Lowe’s. Both have some great tools and I wish that they had better visibility.
@GregBrecker
@GregBrecker Год назад
Agreed. Depot has the 3 tier TTI group, along with Makita and DeWalt. They’ve long since paired down the Porter Cable, and Bosch cordless and most corded. Lowes needs to steal Makita away from Depot. This would bring in another premium brand. They have far to much in the prosumer brand area. In my opinion of course. You can see from the dust on the packaging and usually the manufacturer month made date that it’s been sitting.

Great comparison and I’ve been thinking about grabbing this set when it went on sale, so perfect timing for me. I wonder if the flex compacts would benefit much from the 3.5 stack packs? I don’t actually have a 3.5 myself yet so it has me wondering 🤔

I’m going to return my DCD800, and get something more powerful. I’m debating between the Ridgid high torque hammer drill and the Flex turbo hammer drill. I found pretty good deals on both, so I’m asking which one you would recommend. Note: I recently saw a couple of videos that showed the Flex batteries leaking.
@TinkerWithTools
@TinkerWithTools 11 месяцев назад
The flex is the more powerful of those drills. They both have lifetime warranties or LSA's right now so if price is equal, then I would go flex. But I know you have ridgid and it's not a bad drill. I have never had issues with Flex Batteries. I know that Impact Nation Tools puts them to significantly greater stress than I do though, so you might want to ask his opinion if you have doubts. Not tool company is perfect but I think with either of your options you are well protected.

I am not able to get any of the multi volt batteries in Lowe’s stores but they were available for shipping though. They do sell through other online retailers and fortunately they have a pretty strong availability with good prices on Amazon right now. You can get the 4ah 36v battery for 118 and the 2.5 ah for only 97. I wish they had better presence in a physical store near me but I have been able to get anything I need online.

LOwes uis a joke-too many tool brands-they had pro tools in Metabo HPT and Bosch and then added the overpriced and overweighted Flex-Metabo HPT nailers, fasteners and hardware are the only reason any contractor even sets foot in this store-they should put all of the Metabo HPT tools and nailer together and prop them up as the pro tools they are-especially their 36V tools that absoleutely outperform many of our other colores-the AC adapter has been great for our table saw, SDS Max and plus rotary hammers, mitre saw, portable band saw, belt sander and some others

I have the older gen 2 tripple hammer and the new gen 3 tripple hammer and i actually decided to go out and buy the newer regular (double) impact wh18dex instead of using my new tripple hammer when i finally retired my old tripple hammer. Honestly the tripple hammer is smooth and ok for certain applications but i prefer the regualr double hammer for most everyday uses. Its not the fastest but definitely more consistent. The tripple hammer is fast with smaller screws but then can barley get the job done with large lags etc. Its kind of overated and really not that pratical. The wh18dex is smooth enough and kind of on par with upper mid tier makita (xdt14-xdt16 range) having used all three. I guess i kinda started out a tripple hammer die-hard fan but have slowly evolved into realizing they kinda suck once you get over the smaller screw speed and realize that they really only have a small range they excel in and are pretty much average or below average on everything else

I don't see the point of buying those "budget" tools. The tripple hammer is similar price, has all the extra power settings, more power, better build..I have it for 5 years already and use it on a daly basis, excellent tool! And same for the hammer drills, i use them only for drilling holes and have the Hikoki top tier. Again - better build, better chuck, much more power, a few more $, but you only pay it once and use it for years..
@TinkerWithTools
@TinkerWithTools 11 месяцев назад
That's how I felt going into the testing with, but honestly it worked out pretty well. Much better than the specs suggested. Still go for the triple hammer for the price but this has a lot of similar qualities it seems.

It will be interesting to see them side by side in the coming weeks. Other than some less than overwhelming performance I think the thing I struggle with is just how much inherent weight a 24v battery. That can be impressive in power but carries a negative when it comes to how compact they can be.
