I have been struggling to cut a perfect 45degree with this tool from day one and its really frustrating- what coul I be doing wrong

The only thing I can think of is that the plate may not be locking properly, have you tried reaching out to Metabo to see if yours was possibly damaged before you received it?

Does it have a score function like the makita?

Yes, you can adjust the cutting depth to score pieces similar to the Makita one!

The key selling point for the Metabo saw is definitely the deeper cutting capacity. The Makita XPS01 and Festool TSC 55K have a 52mm and 51mm cut capacity, respectively, while the Metabo KT 18 LTX 66 BL has a 61mm capacity. All 3 are pretty similar when it comes to cut quality and power, but the Metabo definitely pulls through with its micro-adjustment feature and the quality of their track!
