Having fone for the Axminster ts250 with an induction motor, I could never go back to a universal motor saw for use in the workshop. My previous saw was so loud I would avoid using it. As a portable saw this looks to be fantastic for site use. In general metabo stuff seems to be just getting better and better!

hi mat I've had the t s 254 for about six years now. been great, working on site it's took a lot of hammer. plus side dust collection is excellent, plenty of power, very portable. only real down side, on mine the table isn't flat.

After a lot of research i bought Dewalts DW-745. Accept from the fact that it's a bit loud I've never regretted going for that saw. Built a bigger table for it and it works wonderfully. For the price it's a wonderful saw. This one seems good also, especially the fence locking in the back! I hope you'll enjoy using it and thanks for sharing your experience! I'm sure you'll give us more info after a bit of use :)

Hello fello scary machine users. I have the TS254 which is pretty much the same saw reviewed. Only differences are, no left extension to the table, larger extension to the right, foldable legs and wheels so no carrying it around. For me it's a brilliant saw, does everything I need from it. Easy to use, accurate, and very powerful. Hasn't twitched @ anything I've needed it to do and laughs in the face of hard woods. H Your review was spot on. I agree with you on mitre slots. Should be law to standardise. Long arbors and dado stacks should also be law. Just dropped in to say you you did good with your choice and will not be disappointed with your purchase. Reason I chose mine is sometimes I need space in my shed and mine tips over, legs fold up and it can sit in the corner out of the way as if it weren't even in the shed. All boxes ticked. Gr8 vid 👍

Hi. I really enjoy your videos and the variety of work you can get done in a small'ish workshop. Just noticed though that this must be the 3rd or 4th table saw in the last year 😁 What makes you change? Is it because you are not happy with the other ones? It would be cool if you did a comparison of the saws you have owned. Anyway... Keep up the good work. Look forward to the next one... I mean video... Not saw... 😁

I also have a metabo table saw, a different model. It has all the good features you mentioned. The issues i had were alignment of the fence. After i read the manual i aligned the fence and that made a big difference but i still had problems. The rear clip grabs the rear rail and the fence will sometimes lock out of alignment. I have since discovered there is an adjustment of the rear clip but i haven’t done anything about it yet. I agree that the mitre guide is poor and i had not realised that the T tracks are non-standard!

looks like a good all round job site saw, had i not already bought a dw745 I think this one would get my attention based on your review. things i like about this verses the dw745 is the adjustable riving knife which is a fixed position on the UK dw745, and also the clear blade guard compared to the almost solid black on the dewalt. i like the pull out supports too, don’t get any on the dw745, but since i plan on making a bench for it to go into, not a problem for me later. was there any play on the mitre gauge? on the dw745 there is a little play although i think someone added some tape to the edge to fix that on another table saw so might try that on mine.
@Badgerworkshop

Great Table Saw Matt, you are starting to get a collection now ha ha ha. I was reading the comments below, and you mentioned you will sell the old saw on Ebay? i sell my unwanted tools on Gumtree and that way there's no charges to pay, later this week i'm selling a Dewalt Drill and Impact Driver so they should sell quickly. Good luck on your sale, and i'm looking forward to watching the review of your Table Saw in a few months time. Cheers. Barry (Wirral, ENG)

Looking back I should have got a cheap and cheerful one like this. I thought I'd go and splurge on a dwe7491 and it's not a very serious tool. Wobbly mitre gauge. Mitre slot is blocked by bad casting at one end. Table surface is so warped that wood rocks on it.

Very much a newbie to this table saw world so forgive a naïve question - I've looked at ultra budget table saws at sub 150GBP and found them to be quite scary i.e wobbly fences etc so I've upped my budget and was attracted to the Evolution Rage 5-S that seems safe and good for the price and I'm impressed with what you've said about the Metabo but could I ask what makes the Metabo better than the Evolution and is there a way to overcome the problems with the mitre T slot configuration ?
@Badgerworkshop
@Badgerworkshop 5 лет назад
Not standard mitre slots means you cant use off the shelf assessors. Its easy enough to cut wooden strips to fit in them and make your own. I have not used the evolution saw but as you have found you get what you pay for. The fence is very important and you need one that locks tight and square.

I'm on the verge of getting this Metabo. I was previously keen on buying the Dewalt DW745 because people say it has a great fence with rack & pinion movement. But now I like the idea of dual dust port on the Metabo (if the blade guard is on). Does anyone know how the dust collection compares with Dewalt DW745 vs Metabo TS216? The Metabo is also £100 cheaper on Ebay 10% day if you buy from FFX.

Interesting Matt. I'm still looking for my perfect table saw and am just a bit grumpy about having to constantly put-up with compromises all the time. I just don't know why quieter saws aren't a thing? Did look at this at the tool show in the autumn - kind of like the idea of the new administer craft, but don't like the small blade size. So in-short I can't make up my mind. But enjoyed this quick look. Cheers.

@@gkinlen This has become a bit of bugbear for me recently. I read on a forum some tradesman chastise a someone asking about quieter table saws with "just use hearing protection". That's just not good enough in my view. Quieter tools benefit everyone - the user. Anyone in the same room, anyone nearby and people down the street. I live on a new estate and all the 110v tools used by folk on the building site are deafening - all day. Right now my workshop is one of the quietest places in my neighbourhood as I've carefully considered the noise output of my stuff. Matt's saw pumps out 110db according to the specs. My Evolution Table Saw measures at about the same but it doesn't have to be that way and I'm keen to find a quieter saw, preferably with a 250mm blade.

How often do you cut at full depth though? The cut depth of the new Axy Craft saw is 65mm which is only 10mm of 250mm saw. It is very quiet and you get that smoothness from the mass of a cast iron machine.

Bottom line I've looked at just about everything on the planet, conclusion, 99 % all have something not suited being noise, mitre slop bad dust extraction and so on. So I stopped looking and just going to save my money and buy what I think is the more suitable kit. So far axmister AT254TS with the sliding carriage around 3.5 k.
