Metacycle First Impressions - 0-60, Top Speed, & More! 

Watching electric motorcycle racing at Laguna Seca is fun. The bikes are so quiet you can hear the racers' knee pucks dragging.

Excellent first impression video, Ethan( and Jesse?). The camera placements, editing and narration were great. For several reasons I bailed out of my paid up Metacycle order after 18 months and am now on the waiting list for the Super73 C1X. Hopefully, by this time next year I'll be watching your C1X First Impression video or possibly riding my own C1X!

Nice quick review. I saw someone else review it and they had the same sudden speed decline as you. Hopefully that is something that can be worked on through a software patch.

Ok.. that's got me excited. One of my earlier bikes was a Honda VF250 F2 and it's seat was a knife as well. Not comfortable at first, felt like it was cutting you in half after a while... but after a few months it was fine.

Thanks for the video, I enjoyed seeing a bit more about the bike. 2 questions before your full review. How tall are you and how do you feel it fits? And how easy is it to wire in 12v accessories? My phone doesn't charge inductively and I'd want to wire in a USB-C adapter for a handlebar phone mount. I'd be curious how many watts the dc-to-dc converter that drops the pack voltage down to 12v has left to spare for accessories beyond the current 12v needs of the bike.

Thanks for review... that open area though looks cool is wasted space...I'd load it with battery never worried about power but range range range. Really need bikes to fill dual use I get the commuter option but what good is a bike if you can't go for a cruise....

When you do the ol' range test, keep that beast out of turbo mode lol.. cuz while I don't believe no 60 or 80 mile ranges are coming, I DO wanna see it have it's best case for normal folks scenario played out 👌 You could be THE guy potentially who finds out just how much range it loses from using the turbo mode as well one you've got a baseline figured out 🤔

Great review. Sondors needs to address that speed sensor glitch, but overall, hopefully, next firmware, versions etc; and other competitors will push the innovations, i.e. bang for the buck engineering, for upcoming years to come. Keep ‘me coming.

I took the battery out of mine I was so disappointed, I custom installed a 900 Ducati Desmo motor and now I'm having loads of fun. A lot of mods but way more power.

Get a little stick on handle or knob for that cell holder. Might make it easier.Worth a shot

I have an electric trials bike and I love it,but for the road electric bikes don’t really work for longer distances

What is the cost?

The realistic top speed is 60mph for this bike but you can actually ride on 55-60mph roads due to the momentary increases in power. Owners will be fine with that. You won't get very much range moving at 55-60mph either.

I think the reason that you had the sudden power decline is that you were in sport mode. I think that they over drive the motor, and so as not to overheat it, dropped back into normal mode. I work with inverter driven 3 phase compressors and that is done for short increases in capacity, but it needs a cool off period after a certain time. So, I think sport mode should be renamed as power burst mode, of something like that. All that said, it's on my radar but the saddle is a concern. Definitely not as plush as my 1991 Honda Goldwing! Also, might the phone charging cover be intentionally tricky so not to pop open on rough road?

In case anyone was wondering, if you were to fully charge your phone with the onboard wireless charger, you'd only use about 0.05kwh's out of the 4kwh capacity of the Metacycle battery.

PLEASE... put in your full review, how it compares to say a Yamaha XT 250cc. Size, weight, durability,. Is this a tarmac only bike, or can it be ridden moderately like a 250 duel sport? Also when will accessories info be available, a extra battery in that hole could make a big, BIG, difference. Lastly is this the beginning, meaning with newer batteries providing longer range, motors with better efficiency, etc. will this bike be outdated specs say in 1 year, when better and more efficient tec. will be more mainstream? All of this is very important to get a lasting value out of the product.

WARNING - Do not ride this bike on the highway, it is seriously hazardous when the power cuts out in Sport Mode. The Sport Mode limits power after about 20-30 seconds and can cause rapid deceleration and a rear-end crash. Here's the transcript from the ride: 10:30 fast as I've seen is 83. what the hell 10:34 was that that was so scary oh my God 10:37 what is going on it just cut me down I 10:39 was going like 75 all the power cut out 10:42 now I can't go any faster now it's 10:43 slowly accelerating me back up that is 10:46 so dangerous why would it do that 10:50 if I had someone tailgating me I would 10:52 have been hit sondors whatever the hell 10:54 that was you need to take care of that 10:56 immediately I'll see these brakes do

Did you hit the break while going at highways speeds? It was probably that, it disables the throttle, a big problem for highway riding, this needs to be disabled. I should ge my Supermassive soon, can't wait.

I dislike all the waisted space in the big whole through frame. Should be storage space

I'm 6'4 so I would love to buy but I rather wait for an XL version or next gen. I'd be willing to pay $8500 for a taller and wider version of the bike but ummmm that Turbo mode slowdown on the highway was NO BUENO! They need to address that asap

So what's the story with the sudden slow-down on the freeway? Was that the bike switching from sport mode to standard mode? I've watched a couple of reviews and I have to admit I find the bike is intriguing - and unlike a lot of other electric motorcycles, it's actually affordable. The one thing that gives me pause is the depth of support. I'm holding off on buying any electric motorcycle until there's one available with the level of service and support I can get from my local Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki/Kawasaki dealer.

I hope the next jump in technology-sodium batteries make,s the speed & range a no brainer.

Rear wheel driven ,front wheel 20% recovery, It all adds to the distance achievable. All modern cars need the non driven wheels to be used for energy recovery and a weight reduction program. Bikes are showing the way by not using petrol powered bike frames with and battery stuck in it .

Every review I've watched has talked about the seat being uncomfortable. Would love to see some more of the top end NIU products in the future. The MQi GT evo and the RQi pro motorcycle when it comes out.

The power cut out should be expected. If you are going that fast you are maxing the motor and it WILL thermal throttle you. Riding more sedately you will stay in the nominal power range.

4kW is not much for highway speeds. At suburban 35-45mph range you might get an hours ride.

I expected a quicker 0-60 given the torque it supposedly puts out.

I'll stick to my Harley the future road fatalities due to being hit by something you didn't hear coming is not going to surprise me in the least when it's worse than today's rate during and after transition escooters are a prime example .

I would rather have additional battery. So I can get a total range of at least 160- 180 miles of range.

Will the seat kill your butt if you're 250+ lbs?

With a max range of only 100km that makes it pretty much useless for anything except commuting, I would rather have my honda grom, it can commute and it can handle bigger rides too.

For 6k I'd say your getting alot of money for your buck but they keep raising the price from the 5k MSRP it's not gonna be worth it....unless they give you more battery range

9.14 up to sixty is horrendous. Just about anything is faster than that. Merging power should be well under that for 0-60. For sixty five hundred dollars I can buy a lot of things that are better than that.

It’s BS that the battery is not removable and the weight is heavier than they said. Not having a removable battery is a dealbreaker for me, especially for $1000 more than stated in their promo videos. I’d rather buy a Honda CB300 or another single cylinder motorcycle for $5k.

This is hilarious. I really don't get the hype this bike have gotten. Sure, the frame with the hollow part is fun and looks "cool". Other then that it is cheap design using cheap parts with no or little consideration for the ride quality and performance. Around 2008 we started to try out hub motors on various DIY builds and prototypes. Tbh, the only reason to choose a heavy hub motor is the lack of cash, or the lack of skills. The penalty for placing a heavy anchor in the rear wheel is not to be taken lightly. Have a look at the swing arm. Did they recycle a 1990's design? No linkage? Well it does not really matter, cos of the heavy rotating mass in the rear wheel. If you can get it dirt cheap, like pennies on the dollar cheap get one and enjoy the silence operation of a hub motor bike. But that is pretty much it, other then no noise the bike has nothing. Hub motors got their place, cheap builds for sure, and lighter builds. Say a cargo bike, to shuffle in and out of the city, taking you kids to school or hauling bulky stuff. Hub motors are even great for moped and scooters. For a motorcycle? No not at all. Unless you only focus is lowest possible parts price and silent operations. Don't buy this thinking it will be a fun ride. It won't. 10 or 12 sec to sixty?
