Well CC4 isnt dying. Cc characters are far more optimised and easier to use than metahumans. You can easily make changes to the characters however you want. It allows the artist far greater mobility than metahumans and the characters can be used in other 3D softwares seamlessly. The character files are also not huge like metahumans. Its easier to make accessories and animations for cc4 characters. The only thing bad about CC4 is reallusion's ridiculous price tag on everything thus not letting beginners or solo artists to use their products. On the other side Metahuman is free and ultra realistic but it comes at the cost of performance and space loss. Its also a headache to get it working on other softwares. But maybe in the future they will solve these issues. I think both are great but both has some issues that needs fixing.

Another issue with CC4 is that it will permanently mainstream a large number of processes in the background (such as postgres.exe, RLRunUtility.exe), which can not be uninstalled completely. 😅

Metahumans seems to suffer from the same problem that Stable Diffusion does. No matter how much you tweak the look of the person, they still have a similar look. SD has this issue as well, I can often spot SD Chics from across the room.

Agreed, especially since most people prompt with 1girl, I found that if one prompts for specific facial features the 1girl effect is mitigated somewhat.

@@blacksage81 Believe it or not I spent months becoming an expert working with stable diffusion on multiple PCS, I was at the point where I was creating ultra dynamic prompts to create varieties of girls using all of the tricks and still once you start incrementing the resolution with image to image to get it to 4K, it would start slowly converging to the same stable diffusion girl face.

Biggest issue with CC4 is their very restrictive license (at least for game development), where you aren't allowed to use the characters in a "Character Creator". In itself this sounds logical since it prevents using their characters in competing programs. That is until you start to delve into what their definition of a "Character Creator" is, since they consider any game where the player can change or switch out the items/clothing using an inventory or something similar as a "Character Creator". Which means you can't use their characters in any game that even remotely resembles an RPG, or features purchasable skins and even the most simplistic games out there have some form of player item/clothing switching these days.

yeah DAZ easily clears them in terms of character aesthetics variation. just doesn't have as good of a wrinkle system as metahumans probably

There is one big difference between the two. Final output of Metahumans can only be used within unreal engine. You can't use them in any other engine or do renders like in blender or maya.

yes and no... yes it is not allowed to use Metahuman characters outside of unreal engine but you can use those characters in any 3D software if you want. I mean you just have to export it from unreal engine as a obj or something similar like fbx.

I agree 100% and the worst thing about them is that I actually spent my money and bought cc3 and when they came out with cc4 I also had to pay almost full price in order to update, they are greedy and is so sad because they are software is actually good but people will buy it more if it was more accessible to people or at the very least just one time payment and access to future updates

I did not upgrade. The pricing was insane - $50 less than the full price, also everything is an expensive add on. So that- and the developments with Unreal… I don’t need Reallusion.

The only problem I find with CC4 is creating the hair. There is no good way to make hairs in CC4. It should support particle system already. Those polygon hairs look cartoonish. Their solution is to sell very pricy option, with premade limited options, which are not customizable. You pay your heart out to pick from premade hair stacks

The problem with CC3 and CC4 is that every character made with it, seemingly no matter how much work we do, is obviously made in that software. And we can't figure out why.

When it comes to the quality of characters Metahuman takes the win. Trust me i used both. You can sculpt a character in CC or Daz and used mesh to Metahuman is you need to. Not to mention using Face builder in Blender if you want to turn and image of a face into a 3d model. As for clothes we got chaos cloth which you can use clothes that you made in Marvelous Designer or Static clothes elsewhere and it gets skinned to the Metahuman. Only thing I say Good about CC is the character morphs. Metahuman is not an easy workflow but if you take the time to build a flow the results can be amazing. Reallusion does have great things about it also, it just depends save time but pay money or spend time and save money haha

Workflow is trash and time consuming, i already tried . I have used metapie v2 and metaforge too but even you fast as flash in your w😊rk flow but still take too much time .. 3 day of making one character.. for metahuman.. lol ..

@@jagdishchauhan-tf2vz I totally understand. I don't want to learn Maya for metapipe. Im just now getting the hang of Blender. I hear you can use shape keys and transfer them to your metahuman lower LODs or you can just stick with the higher LOD if you want the character just for cinematics. I'm even looking at Daz to Unreal bridge, use the metahuman head on daz body and blend in the textures using photoshop and substance. I'm not making my argument any better I know haha

CC4 also has tools to work with Blender, Unity, Unreal, Metahuman, Nvidia Omniverse and Zbrush as well is Iclone.

Can I use CC to sell things created with it? If I am selling an animation using characters created with it, how do the end user rights work? A few years back, I wanted to use Character Creator to eliminate mundane steps in the base mesh, retopo/sculpt/paint, rig, export, animate workflow but the licensing system was too convoluted, so I chose not to. It was worded in a way that made it feel I had no rights to earn from selling the characters I create or use with the tool? So it seemed more like an expensive hobby toy than anything else.

I seem to remember the Base of the character/mesh always remains their ownership, and as such you can only sell anything created using that Base in their own store. You should check their forums, there's a lot of discussions and questions similar to yours that the devs have responded to, and their licensing is sometimes far more limited than the wording of their license texts seems to indicate at first glance.

As a user of character creator and iclone I will say that the thing I absolutely hate about it is literally everything comes with a hefty price tag. As an example just to be able to export to zbrush and do this with the shapekeys included you have to buy a plug in which is not cheap. There is no way to export anything from the program without using a specialized bridge tool so that it keeps the textures in place.

But its still bether than Autodesk Maya or any other Subscription Software !!!! You buy and pay one time and you pay only for new functions and this is very fair ! By Subscriptions you pay and pay and pay with no Ending ! If you owe a Software like CC4 and you have 4 months no time to work with it no problem. But if you have a Subscripton you pay also for the time where you have no time to use the Software...

I think main difference between MH and CC is ease of use. CC character could be created and animated in iClone (another animation application from Reallusion) in no time even without motion capture. Both CC and iClone has some wonderful tools to do work in rapid pace. They both have great and super intuitive UI to work with. I tried MH but leave it temporarily to be mature more. I noticed Epic starting to take some features from CC and iClone and tried to incorporate in UE but all methods are not as easy to apply as CC and iClone. Moreover, CC and iClone has a wonderful pipeline with every prominent DCC app and Game Engine particularly with Blender which will make them still relevant even after metamorphosis of MH in future which has very limited pipeline features. Only thing that Reallusion should be look into is the steep price tag and that could make them irrelevant in future. Because the rapid change is making in Blender and its addon, in future you could make similar CC type fully rigged character in Blender (core Blender is free and will be free for ever) at fraction price for the addon.

CC is great for game resolution characters, the workflow is fantastic with a few quirks, and is heavily burdened with a confusing monetization scheme. I wish they added an option for a higher poly base, as the subdivided characters look quite "soft" and unrealistic and need more geometry to support higher fidelity. I would like to see a poly density for the base mesh similar to 3dscan store or metahuman, it would open up many possibilities. Ideally the meshes would degrade gracefully in resolution from a higher poly mesh somewhere around 50 - 100k quads. From a single cinematic mesh the resolution cascade would look like Cinematic > CC4+base(the highest resolution right now) > Game Optimized (CC game base) > INSTALOD (LOD1-3+). Taking time and workflow complexity out of the equation metahuman and even Daz offer more realistic charcters. Character Creator has the best workflow, but is the weakest of the three for cinematics and higher quality character animations.

I think that MH is Epic doing some forward thinking. I forsee a time where nearly everything 3d can be done in the editor, and MH is just a foundational piece of that plan.

Been a Daz user for over a decade and I seem to be the only one that recalls CC started its life as a Daz plugin, because they (Daz) were too lazy to streamline the process of porting their characters to other software. First gen CC used was strongly tied to first and second generation genesis models until they gained notoriety and branched into their own thing. Never touched CC as it was pricey from the getgo, but I believe they still work well with Daz models and clothing as a result. But going back to the initial question, Daz has great characters and morphs thanks to their community PAs, but porting them is still a bit of a PITA even with their new bridge tools.

Thanks for the video. It did build up hopes for CC4. NBut.... I am just messing around and doing a little gamedesign work in UE5 as a hobby. Therefore looking for some tool to easyly create and import characters on my UE Engine- So I don´t have to do animations myself. CC4 looks like the thing I want, but with that pricing I am absolutley shocked. I would pay like 60 EUR for a software, but this isn´t an option for anyone who is just doing it for fun. I am noot keen on it, but so Metahumans it is.

I am the only one that sees the skin of metahuman is 100 times better than any other program? And you can overcome the character creation limitation with other external tools. What is the point in using CC then?

CC typically is not used for the rendering, you'd export it to a game engine like Unity or Unreal, or another rendering software like Maya, Blender etc. How good the skin looks will depend a lot on the rendering engine. CC also has a lot more options for customizing the skin than metahuman, especially if you get the SkinGen addon. CC also has more tools that weren't mentioned in this video. For example Headshot, which can create a character from an image of a face, generating the face textures with it. You need a very good image for the textures to be useable, but even with a poor image it can still be a good starting point for creating a unique face from scratch. The main downside of CC is that in addition to a pretty steep price tag to begin with a lot of content is behind additional addons or content packs, and they are not cheap. Hair and clothes are particularly expensive. The price seems adjusted for professional studios rather than hobbyists or indie devs.

I think both are not really perfect if you want to make game characters, the level of detail is too high also some hairstyles will not appear in Unreal. Not sure, but I think CC4 got rules that not allows you to make all kind of games ... I can be wrong but it's not allowed to make extremly violet games and adult games with the models.

CC4 is GREAT - it is very powerful and great to make characters - BUT - The quality especially in Unreal is not great - Especially for the PRICE - which is very high!! MetaHumans, even though limited a bit - the quality is HIGH and it is FREE!

too expensive, creates rather than solves bottlenecks, plus forces closed ecosystem in terms of content and interchange between other 3D packages, the pose editor is insanely useful but as soon as another tool (powered by AI) that does the same is available, lights out for cc4.

Character Creator 4 and iClone 8 from Realusion are the Best and the Way to go for Character Creation and Character Animation, they are simply the Best !!!!!!!! But i love also Unreal Engine very much for Environments and rendering Landscapes Animations !!!!!!!!

I'd say, for actual use in a Game, you left out some critical comparisons. Shader Complexity and In Engine Optimization. The Material assigned by CC4 is pretty basic and probably has more draw calls than needed, but when you take a look at the MetaHuman Material it's setup in a way I haven't fully figured out or I'd probably transfer it to my CC4 characters. Which is going to be best for lots of characters on the screen at once?

Clarke has been pointing this out since the '60s. As for Metahumans, their crushingly monotonous and borderline-stoned appearance can be easily tweaked w Mesh To MetaHumans. My guess is, long-term, Epic will roll out more tools for customizing them directly inside Creator. Till then, we still have xGen, zBrush, Blender and [for people like me who can't sculpt for crap] Face Builder. And the incredibly powerful MetaPipe. I have CC4, and am eager to explore ways to incorporate it into a MetaHuman/ UE pipeline, but I believe the future, in general, lies with UE. In many ways, not just characters.

3:00 may be they got a face mixer idea from DAZ?.............just maybe. So, like Blender, people don't choose for the UI, the power or just how easy and they convince themselves that that software is the best ever.................the power of the word "FREE" (when someone forgets that there is always an owner...........but that's another story). however DAZ is FREE and can do the same things (almost) as CC4 and much more than MetaHuman........but the interface is like this........ ..personal opinion ofc.

The only difference here between these two character creator systems is CC4 is easier to use for beginners and Metahuman is more advanced and complicated and it is better for professional artists (for sure that professional artist you mentioned was not as professional as you believe), if you doubt it just simply take a look at the companies who are using which one of them.

@@fingfufar9878 What Ninja Theory did with Metahuman in Hellblade 2 seems pretty advanced to me. Although CC obviously offers way more than bare-bone MH, it is still very limited if you're aiming for something more than generic looking characters. And due to the fact that CC bundle is $900, I'll take two MHs

When it comes to using human models in Unreal, Metahuman has been "just theater" for over a year. A lot of publications promising miracles! Illusion. It doesn't export the custom characters anywhere! In Unreal's Quixel, the option to import custom models has not appeared for a long time, and Metahuman does not have any alternative mechanism for this. The nonsense of protecting your models and not being able to use other standards with FBX and things that really work is a big limitation. Models from competitors Caracter Creator and Daz sometimes work, but be patient! It's a soap opera, and everyone knows it. Congratulations to Twinmotion. Simplify instead of complicate. It's a shame that it doesn't work well when exporting skeleton models. I see a space here for someone to create something new that actually works.

Cc4 is to expensive vs free. Metahuman just needs to fix the body stuff. 3 body types? Daz has the things they both miss but clunky and doesn’t work well with others.

also that CC4 only works only on a PC is a limiting factor for some. UE5 works decently on a Mac now which will open up the option for people who only have Mac computers.

The metahumans look better but You need more expensive hardware to use them and the license only allows rendering in UE or Maya. and I don’t see any option for non human creatures & aliens for sci fi genre stuff. and you have very limited option for custom clothing for the Metahumans by default CC4 Characters have more variety but less realism and you can easily convert Daz characters & aliens into CC4 characters and you can animate convert to rigify render and them in Blender via a FREE blender pipeline tool on a lower spec PC’s with no NVIDIA GPU. There is also a free export preset for Maya with a FREE Characterization preset to convert the imported CC4 Character to Maya human IK for animation in Maya with one click it is alot easier to model and auto weight custom clothing for the CC4 Characters inside blender with preset to send the clothing back to CC4 at the proper scale as well as convert any clothing item from the vast Daz Clothing content store for the CC4 characters.

this video leaves out a key piece of information.... price!!!!! CC4 is way overpriced... Metahuman is free and so is the face mocap. With CC4 you have to buy the skin, iclone, facelink, and other stuff just to get it up and running in the low-end software of iclone. he says it but he doesn't go over it in detail and most time after you make your char/animations you still have to send it to ue5 or blender to make a full scene and render. This was a crappy video

I have used every single character creator ,metahuman is trash ,daz3d or you can erotica hub ,daz is lacking in many way like animation and pipeline for animation,but i m still using daz because there are lots of morph to customise your character and import to cc4 .and cc4 skingen is best.then import your character in ue5 with auto setup .and animate your animation freely. Also 1 software is coming rebiium ( idk name correctly) but hoping to replace metahuman.. i mean metahuman really sucks

CC4 died at birth for me, I won't support a company that charges double as much money for an update than they did for buying CC3 completely new, the updates didn't justify that price increasement, I'm done with greedy companies like reallusion
