Shane Howard, lead vocals, is an outstanding songwriter, with a strong social conscience and appreciation of history. This is probably his best known song, and while it has a powerful and catchy beat, it speaks eloquently of the sacredness of the land to First Nations people, as well as the tragedy for them at the arrival of white settlers. Great song from a great band.

Hey Travis and Suzie. Thanks for reacting to this song " Solid Rock " by Goanna. I'm actually an Aboriginal man myself, my Mother being a Baradha/ Kapalbara & my Father a Kukuyalanji/Kukuyimidtha man . The lead singer Shane Howard is actually a friend of mine who is all for Aboriginal rights. The song is about when the British came to Australia and the Aboriginal people went down to the beaches of Botany Bay or wherever they pulled ashore. They went to greet the British, but the British massacred them and made them their like they did everywhere else in the world. It's a sad song with true meaning.

Calm down, my daughter is 1/8 blooded and I see many people on her side of the family take handouts and not do a tap to earn it. You speak to some of my kids cousins and they would back up what I am saying. Now up the top end there are many impoverished people not getting the support they need, and I welcome anything good that happens for them but there are a lot of grifters involved with health and welfare who are driving $60k SUV's living in nice houses who are still not happy. Not earning enough apparently. That is the big problem, the past is the past and you cant change that but we can change the future and a good start would be helping those who really need it. The Australian first peoples are the remnants of the Lemurian civilization, millions of years ago, which had seven sub-races, which all civilizations have. Then came the Atlantians, and now we are heading towards the trailing end of the following Aryan one. Each has its build up, peak, and disappearance. Each progresses to the next. That is the evolution of humanity. Paradoxically, it works as an opposite bell curve. Our present Aryan race is at the beginning ascension of that bell curve. The Ageless Wisdom and Theosophy state that there are two more root races and their sub-races to come in the eons of time. Only then will we be truly evolved.

Do you think it was appropriate to be clapping along with a big cheesy grin while they were singing about genocide?

Totally missed the point of this song. You really need to read the lyrics when you do these reviews. Why even bother if you miss the target by this much?

Agreed. I often wonder if the nursery rhyme lyrics of modern pop make young people tune out the lyrics. Which is a shame, as this is a brilliant song about the cruelties foisted upon indigenous Australians.
