RIP the three members of Metal Church David Wayne (January 1, 1958 - May 10, 2005), aged 47 Kirk Arrington (January 23, 1962 - May 22, 2023), aged 61 Mike Howe (August 21, 1965 - July 26, 2021), aged 55 You will be remembered as legends.
I saved lawn mowing money when I was 8 yrs old. I bought a compilation tape called "Slave to the metal". This was one of the songs. It was my favorite off it. I saved more money mowing. I bought their album. I was happy.
Born in 1975 and I just discovered this band 2 videos ago. Been a metal head since about '88. I'm so grateful to find new old influential metal even today, 16 Feb 2021.
I'm a 75 born been listening to them since I was 9 and my ma was constantly checking out what I was listening too. It's corny Kidd joke but when I was asked what is a Metal Church? I kinda threw a curve ball and said a church for robots. Well it wasn't returned. Oh yeah It was the Dark. I had Slayer blasting in the morning getting ready for school and I figured if u have questions about my music, I would start there.
Met one of these guys at a bar in Seattle back in the 90s. He invited me to a nearby hotel room where we did rails of really good coke with two cops in uniform. One of the weirdest memories of my life.
Im 57 and been into Metal from age 11. I can honestly say "The Dark" is my all time favourite album🤘🤘 Really loved David Wayne and Mike Howe phenomenal singer's, cannot say one was better than the other as Mikes albums with Metal Church were brilliant too🤘♥️ Both sadly gone far too soon😔 Rest In Peace David and Mike and Kirk🤘🤘🙏🙏♥️♥️
The power a song has is just mind blowing! I used to listen to this when I was a teenager playing air guitar and doing my make believe vocals. F'n intense how the memories just flow into my mind. Long Live Rock & Roll /Metal.
Yep. Taped Headbangers Ball every week on VHS. On one of the tapes it had this song followed by Warlock Fight for Rock. Every time I hear this I wait for Warlock to kick in right after. Man those we’re good days
I remember being about 11 years old and seeing this on Headbanger's Ball every weekend. Metal Church was at the top of their game and headlining gigs with Metallica opening for them.
Fantastic song, but come on, you can't metal history it! I'll be honest, and again, it's a fantastic song, but it's not even the best one on this same album. Go listen to "Method to your madness". By the way. What's that logo next to your name with a chicken spreading its wings? Kind of looks like a football, [soccer] badge.
helder lopes Yeah, I do know that. Just toying with you. Listen, FC Porto strangely collapsed and Sporting Lisbon's inexperience hurt them, and now they lost their coach, but Benfica had a good season and deserved the title, but they're not anywhere close to being 5th best in Europe! Real Madrid, Atl. Madrid, Barcelona, B. Munich, B. Dortmund, PSG, M. City,Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Juventus. I haven't named them all, but there's ten for you! I know you want them to be top 5 or 10, but lose the colors for a second and be honest with yourself.
Michael Gretzky and Benfica has 10 european finals and 34 appearances in the Champions League. Chelsea??? wtf is that??? just a club with lots of money..... and yes, in the last five years Benfica is one of the best team in the european competitions.....
LYRICS In a darkened graveyard glows a light I see it shine there every night I know somewhere there's a hidden door There's an answer here we must explore No, I'll not submit to reason I'll sit and watch the seasons change We watch the children pray Save us, God today Come whatever may We hold our fate and make the choice But we'll not listen to that still small voice Are we just crazy, out of our minds? Wish this were someplace, another time We watch the children pray Save us, God today Come whatever may And I know we're going So far away from this wretched life we lead With open arms meet catastrophe In the valley of the damned we'll be And I know we're going So far away from this wretched life we lead With open arms meet catastrophe In the valley of the damned we'll be We watch the children pray Save us, God today Come whatever may And now to life we say goodbye I know the when but not the why Our nation's blood spills on the ground Our lives go out without a sound......
Favorite bands as the psycho youth I was: Exodus, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Metal Church, Iron Maiden, Ozzy, Lita Ford, Motley Crue, AC/DC and Queensryche.
One of the greatest pure METAL bands ever. David Wayne was in my opinion, the best singer in metal at that time. Another band that should have been huge. They were so much better than anyone else at the time.

Great Song! the true Dark Metal and the gifted voice of David Wayne ( RiP ) a truly master piece from 1986.. " And now to life we say goodbye I know the when but not the why Our nation's blood spills on the ground Our lives go out without a soundWe watch The children Pray"
The "DARK " is one of the best metal albums life has given us. Listen to this album. Metal church made a dent in the metal scene but are a underrated by far
"Metal church" and "The Dark" are some of the best albums I've heard. And I agree with you on that last part, it is so underated it's insane! I keep telling my friends to listen to this album and they agree to do so but they never actually do it.
Agreed, M/C did not get the recognition they deserved, their 1st and 2nd LPs both burn start to finish and are my 2 fave thrash metal LPs above anything Metallica/Megadeth/Anthrax/Slayer offered up. Metal Church were something else, their songs were so filled w/killer hooks/songwriting and ensemble playing. I did not like anything they did after, I did not like Mike Howe.
David Wayne gone way too soon...I can just imagine how his music would have progressed with time...I think he was just scratching the surface with this song...his style and approach to music hadn't reached his full potential....example look at Judas Priest. Look how their music started and matured to their last album... David Wayne was just starting....gone way too soon .not to mention a super cool person. just by chance, I had met him in Houston and did not realize at that time who he was... even though it was just for a brief moment, I will never forget it... amazing, super cool...Greatly appreciate the music he left us..God Bless RIP 🙏
I was a kid outside Detroit back in the 1980s. I was riding home from a N.A. meeting and was like 14 or 15. My father made me go but at that time drugs and heavy metal were my life. I heard this song on WRIF 101 FM as a hit or miss song. The screams blew me away. This band was and is what the heart of metal is. Live it and die it.
I was at work on 9 11and this song was playing when the second plane hit forever in my life the two will be linked ..and on a side note one of the most underrated bands ever
I love the entire album Metal Church, The Dark, which includes this song. David Wayne did a great job with the erie vocals on this song. Truly the most underrated metal vocalist and the most underrated band in metal history. RIP David Wayne and RIP vocalist Mike Howe who recorded on later Metal Church albums. We miss you.
I remember seeing this video in the 80s (probably on Mick Walls sky show) and it completely blew me away. I am happy there is a youtube simply because I see this video again.
Man this song takes me back to my teenage years. I'd lock myself in my room, smoke a bowl, and fucking jam to this cassette several time over and over!!!!
It's a trip metal was so young in the 80 s everyone hundreds of bands full of hope and talent then like a light switch twas gone now I don't know what to say except for "let's go see Taylor Swift" yea that shit gets rammed down our throats fuck I remember driving all the way across town to a record shop to buy imported music like King Diamond all kinds of shit now music is what ever they can sell in mass corporate quantity.
stevemtc1 and you know what. Theres no excitement anymore. You dont go to record stores anymore. Now snippets are on you tube when something new comes out. It sucks. I would rather take my chance. Like back then. Most of the time you would get good stuff. Metal was fresh and no one was a clone. Everyone was finding their own sound.
Can't figure out why people squabble between Wayne and Howe when they are so similar, and similarly awesome. Most bands don't get lucky enough to have two great singers.
aldersmoke1 I agree. Few people's voices age as well as Mike Howe's has. The only others I can think of are Lizzy Borden, Michael Kiske and Neil Turbin
Anyways, the thing with that, is Howe was in Heretic, then joined Metal Church, and Wayne was in Metal Church and joined Heretic. The two switched bands.
Wow... It's my 57th BD and was thinking back on the good old days. My Walk man walking miles with this Great Group playing in my ears! Lost track of them for decades. Thought I'd look them up today and listen... Great memories, what an under rated great group this was!
I super love this piece of art, this song made me become the musician I am, not famous at aLL, but I'm super happy of my skills... thanks METAL CHURCH!!! LOVE YOU FOREVER, YOU HAVE BECOME PART OF MY LIFE..... SO PROUD TO SAY THIS SO F.. PROUD!!!!!
I met these guys in the 80's at a club they were playing in Raleigh NC. They rocked the house! They were so much fun to hang out with! Coolest group of dudes and down to earth! It was an Epic night! So happy we took pictures that evening! I treasure them!
this song gives me goosebumps and puts a tear in my eye at the same time. David Wayne and one of my best friends Ron who introduced me to Metal Church in 1987 died in the same year. Wayne was simply the best metal singer ever. Tom Araya is a distant second.
Haven't heard this in forever..I met these guys w/Anthrax at an autograph signing party, they signed my purse(it was pink)..my stupid mom threw it out! Song still gives me chills..alot of memories from ''the good ol' dayz''..oh,well,I'll forever be a metalhead!!!!!!! ROCK ON! \m/
metallicatlaura - I’ve been to lots of great shows - but the Metal shows back in the 80’s were hands down some of *_THE_* best and most memorable! Glad I was born in 1970... ‘cuz the 80’s were a great time for creativity in general! 🤘🏼
Me and my brother went to their concert back in '87 in Holland. Metal Church was opening for Anthrax and Metallica. We imagined David could never sing as high as on the album tracks, pure pleasant surprise he went even higher and their songs were solid as rock, best act of the day for many that day! R.I.P. David and Mike
This is how I remember 'METAL CHURCH", I miss you Dave, thanxs for the memories, from Kent behind the bar , in the ol' apartment, your bro, DC went to my sister's wedding with Jon Nugent, they r divorced now, Hey miss you man, u r always on my mind, luv ya, & still love the METAL CHURCH!!!!!!!
This cassette is on the shelf with peace sells, piece of mind, ride the lightning and bark at the moon. Listen to them all quite often too. I am 47 years old so I EXPERIENCED this stuff back in the day.I Would not trade it for anything! Among the living too. All the fucking Classic hard headbanging stuff.
I've just recently been browsing RU-vid and I thank the almighty gods of metal for it. I have found so much classic metal and videos that I've grown up with and still love. This band has always been one of my favorites from when I was a teenager in the 80s, even until now.
F¤ck!!! How is it possible that I've been a metalhead my entire life and I've never heard this song!? I heard it because I've just made a one-man, true heavy metal album and somebody listened to it and said it reminds him of Metal Chirch, and you know what, he's f·cking right! Long live true heavy metal!
Got to see these guys in the 80's a few times in Chicago. What a time, What a place. I still jam out with this tune. Brings me back to another time, another place I will never forget.... Thank you for the jams.
Man, I saw this Metal Church lineup at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA in 1985. The bands were Slayer, Overkill, Metal Church, D.R.I. and Bl’ast! I probably paid $12 for the ticket! Great show! Metal Church kicked ass!
"The Dark" was released in 1986. You must mean the self titled album released in 1984 which consisted of the songs Beyond The Black, Metal Church, Merciless Onslaught, Gods of Wrath, Hitman, In The Blood, Nightmare, Battalions and a cover of Deep Purple's Highway Star.
@@drclivevideos5051 I asked a friend to borrow his Metal Church LP so I could record it onto cassette, he said "Just take it, I don't listen to it anyway." He tried asking for it back but yeah, that wasn't happening, it was a gift and I listened to it a lot.
The badass thing is that I wasn't even born when this came out...thanks to my dad I listen to METAL CHURCH, MEGADETH, ANTHRAX, SLAYER, METALLICA....thanks pops!!
i remember seeing this video on headbangers ball late one night way back in '86. i was only 15 yo and thinking WOW! this song is a true metal classic!!! david wayne's vocal on this song is fucking awesome!!!! he had great range and power. rip david, we miss you.
Essência! Os anos 80 será sempre a nostalgia dos reais corações bangers e a triste fantasia de quem não pode viver aquele período dourado e único. foda, verdadeiro hino do Metal Church.
