This concert was held just before Japan was locked down by a pandemic. They had been selected as the official ambassadors for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which were scheduled to be held that year, and had produced a full 2-CD album "TOKYO SINGING" with this live DVD enclosed, with the Olympics in mind. Unfortunately, the Olympics themselves were postponed and they lost the opportunity to fulfill their role as ambassadors. In case you missed it, in June 2019, WagakkiBand ended their exclusive contract with Avex Trax and signed a global deal with Universal Sigma. Please note that since then, music videos owned by Avex, with the exception of live videos, are now sure to be blocked if used as is.

This is a great collaboration and a good introduction to Wagakki Band, one of the most creative bands out there at the moment. What it doesn't show is just how talented each of the members are. Waggaki, just means traditional Japanese instruments, so you have here Shamisen (guitar/banjo), Koto (harp but laying down), Shakuhaichi (flute) and Wadaiko (traditional drums) as well as the Guitar, Bass and Drums. Also sometimes the vocalist Yuko, will play Piano or keyboards. So eight members, all of whom are masters with their respective instruments and great performers. In the couple of years I've been following them, I've been blown away by their talent, stage presence and variety of styles. Thinking back to all the bands I've listened to over the years (that's a lot of years and a lot of bands) these guys have to rank as one of the very best.

This was from Wagakki Band Premium Symphonic Night Vol. 2 Live & Orchestra in Osaka-Jo Hall 2020. A one night show only. Where Amy Lee was invited as a special guest for the performance of "Bring me to life". As the name suggests, this was the second time Wagakki Band performed with the hand-picked Wagakki Band Symphonic Orchestra. The first time was in 2018. Wagakki Band is an 8-piece band created by poet, pianist, composer and shigin singer Yuko Suzuhana in 2012, officially in 2013. They have released 7 studio albums, and the last one this summer. For the ultimate Wagakki Band experience I recommend Wagakki Band - 戦-ikusa- + 拍手喝采 (Hakushu Kassai)/ Dai Shinnenkai 2018 Ashita e no Koukai [ENG SUB CC]

In addition Yuko formed a group prior to WGB with Daisuke Kaminaga (shakuhachi) and her husband Kiyoshi Ikeburo (koto) called Hanafugetsu, which was very influential in the way Yuko formed WGB. As far as Yuko is concerned, I feel she is the best all-around vocalist I have ever seen or heard. Her mixing of shigin (traditional Japanese song/poetry style) with modern singing styles is masterful. To me Yuko is the living embodiment of the Sun Goddess Amaterasu.

The bass guitarist is a guy. I'm not sure why he goes for the more feminine look, but if you heard Asa talk, you'd know he's a guy.

The actual bandleader and lead vocalist of WAGAKKI-BAND is named Yuko Suzuhana. She is a multi-talented musician who is a singer, composer, pianist, music teacher, and official inheritor of several traditional Japanese performing arts. If you look at the track record of this band, it will be clear what kind of results her idea of combining Japanese traditional music and Western music with a high level of quality has produced. I believe that Yuko Suzuhana is one of the two female musicians who can bring innovative value to Japanese rock music. In addition. The bassist of WGAKKI-BAND is named Asa. He is different from Miho, the founder of LOVEBITES. Above all... Asa loves feminine fashion, but he's definitely a man. (Reference 1) Another of the two women who I think can bring innovative value to Japanese rock music is Miyako, the lead guitarist, pianist and composer of LOVEBITES. (Reference 2) The words Halestorm and LOVEBITES came up, so this is a related topic. LOVEBITES' band name is a result of an interaction between LOVEBITES' lead vocalist Asami and Halestorm. The band name LOVEBITES was born from Halestorm's song "LOVEBITES (So Do I)". ---------- from Nippon *This is a text using Google Translate. I hope I conveyed my intentions correctly.

When you talk about Japanese women and music artistry you have to include Kanami Tono of Band Maid. Kanami is a true savant and her compositions and arrangements are things of beauty. It doesn't hurt that she is one of the top guitarists out there today, male or female.

Great reaction. Always loved this song. But this version I even like more. My first Evanescence show was also the Synthesis show in the Netherlands with a Dutch orchestra. The second was their collaboration tour with Within Temptation. Thanks for this reaction.

For me, this is the best rendition of Bring Me To Life that I have ever heard. The infusion of the traditional instruments, Yuko's magnificent duet with Amy and an arrangement done by WGB guitarist Machiya that is just perfection.

I really like this version of this song, with the fusion of Japanese and Western influences, a beautiful compilation ❤!!!!! Yuko Suzuhana is the vocalist for Waggaki Band, her vocals are angelic, IMO. Check out their mv, “Queen of the Night “, beautiful, haunting!

I was very surprised when I saw Wagakki Band on your channel! They were never very heavy. But this is my very first rock band from Japan and I just love Wagakki Band. Wagakki Band is one of the most famous rock bands in Japan. They consist of eight members. They combine classic Japanese instruments with modern instruments. Their singer has one of the most beautiful voices I have heard in my entire life! You definitely need to keep listening to their songs. The problem is that very often reactions to their music videos are blocked by RU-vid. I suggest you to watch their live video "Homura and Akatsuki no ito" on the Frank García channel. Thnak you for the video. More Wagakki Band on the channel. Your videos are always really interesting. And, viewers, don’t tell them about Asa. :)

Actually they are a multi-genre group and one of their genres is folk metal. Folk metal interested me and I ended up catching on to The HU Band from Mongolia, Ni Ni Music from Taiwan, Otyken from Siberia and Bloodywood from India. There's also one from Morocco but I cannot remember the name. There is also an artist from China named Moyun, who does covers of rock songs on the Guhzheng, which is the predecessor to Wagakki Band's Koto. I would also recommend them to Mattias and Shay.

Dissenting opinion here. Amy was not on her game here, and Wagakki Band (for those who know them) had to hold back to avoid embarrassing her. They are a phenomenal band, with incredible chops in both Western and Japanese instrumentation. You should check out their performances (live or MV) of Senbonzakura or Tengaku, to see what they are capable of. This video is ok but does not show either Amy or WB in their best light.

I agree, because i've seen the unedited preview of this live video. Amy barely produces sound at one point. I've seen her in her before/around debut days, she was better. While Yuko can blow you away with power, without even trying hard.

“Wagakki” is Japanese for “traditional instruments” The band was founded by the shigin (classical poetry) singer, SUZUHANA Yuko, who is also a classically trained pianist. She developed the concept of fusing Japanese traditional instruments and musical tropes with modern western music. The full band consist of eight musicians, three on western instruments (bass, guitar, drums), four on Japanese instruments and Suzuhana-sama on vocals and sometimes piano. The “lute” thing is a Shamisen. The “harp” thing is a Koto. The “flute thing” is a shakuhachi. The Japanese drums are collectively called “wadaiko”. Yes, you’ve heard these instruments a million times, in movie soundtracks, when they want to convey a Japanese atmosphere. Here is a video that really lets you see up close all the instruments and how they work together: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q2meWkWqc-I.html It was originally written for a “Vocaloid” which is an electronic virtual singer-essentially an AI. In Japan (where else?) vocaloids have actually become pop stars. America may be the land of innovation for things like tech and social media, but in music no one here cares any more. Most of the creative action has moved to Europe and Japan.

I feel like the collabs with Amy Lee do not showcase what the Wagakki Band can do that well. For first timers, I usually recommend their Homura + Akatsuki no Ito video instead as it highlights the musicians nicely and provides a great blend of their western and eastern styles.

Check out the 2021 encore chant/Akatsuki No Ito. The encore chant is the chorus from that song, this was during the time masks and seating had restrictions. The encore chant was played before they came out and when they did the chorus there was a display of fans from home singing along. Pretty moving piece.

The couple of singers fuse together very well like twin sisters. About the guitarist, he is a beast on guitar and a very good singer with softer voice like this, Doppo (walking alone) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aGn4lHBcKuI.html. The band consists of eight musicians. Yuko Suzuhana the singer, Machiya the guitarist, Daisuke the Shakuhachi (bamboo flute) player, Beni Ninagawa the Shamisen (three string banjo) player, Ibukuro the Koto (horizontal harp) player, Kurona the Taiko (Japanese drums) drummer, Asa the bassist, Wasabi the drummer. If you want to know what they really are and what they play, try following couple of titles. Kyouka Suigetsu + Tsuki Ni Sakebu Yoru ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aWlMc-pbDc8.html is an amazing fusion of Japanese traditional music and heavy metal with phenomenal solo of each member. The other one is Haru No Umi (Sea of Spring) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xkBgCVQ1DlA.html. It is a modernize arranged old piece written for Shakuhachi and Koto, with Shamisen and Taiko in this arrangement. Enjoy!!

There are eight members of the Wagakki Band. A western rock drummer, eastern drummer/percussionist, guitar, bass guitar, bamboo flute, Shamisen (sort of a 3 string Japanese version of a banjo), Koto (sort of a Japanese harp), and of course the singer. The orchestra was added for this concert
