ABOUT BLAKE MAKES MUSIC
Blake is a music producer and singer-songwriter that hosts a live podcast geared to helping musicians and producers navigate their music career in a really grounded way. Blake started his career at the age of 15, writing and performing music in bands, and was offered his first publishing contract at the age of 17 years old. While playing around the state of Texas as a singer-songwriter, Blake ventured into producing albums for local bands in his hometown of Houston, Texas. He quickly established a reputation of becoming the 'go-to' producer for his signature vintage-retro sound. He began mentoring the artists and bands that he worked with, helping align their careers with their goals. As the internet began shaping the music landscape with streaming, Blake then shifted his career into digital marketing strategies and online artist development. In 2017 he was then hired to run the Music Career Development department of the Los Angeles Film School. After separating with the college in 2022 due creative differences, Blake moved to Gruene, Texas and started his own podcast and music development system aimed to mentor young musicians. He also wrote a book encompassing his entire music system's strategy guide. You can grab a free digital copy of his book here: bit.ly/freemusicbook

i dont think the pronunciation of “fake love” was their accent tbh? i think it was purposefully pronounced that way for an added stylistic element because they dont pronounce any of the other english parts differently either 🤷🏻‍♀️ ALSO bts reacted to this metal cover as well!!! and they loved it. thanks for the reaction to all of this!

It works with the time signature better to emphasize "euh" at the end of "Fake".

They are from the USA I think. A lot of BTS fans REALLY like this take of FAKE LOVE. I think there is a clip of BTS themselves watching and listening to this and JK was MESMERIZED. He said that himself after he picked up his jaw from the floor. So much so that I always wondered if this inspired him to take up the drums. I also saw the English translation suggested that JK was intrigued by the fact that the main singer in the band is the drummer. I wish he could listen and see Phil Collins and Genesis 😁

The accent while pronouncing fake love on bts's part is on purpose. RM had talked about it on a vlive. It wouldn't sound good if it was just the normal pronunciation. Also from the previous video... The reason why most of their songs sounds like choruses joined together is because of their writing process. 1. Beat is first. It can start from ideas of the members or the in-house producers. 2. The song gets passed around the 7 members so they can write melodies. 3. The song goes to outside the company songwriters to see if they can write melodies. 4. Everything is collected and sorted through by the main producer of the song (usually pdogg) along with the members(usually rm ). So this is why a lot of it seems like a chorus... many people attempt to write a melody and all the best ones get taken and put together. Here is also where you find a lot of things cut and be left with members demos. For fake love we can hear rms original version. There is also a jimin demo prechorus. 5. Everthing that was finalised is send to the members/ lyricists. (Rm suga and jhope mostly.) So they write verses. RM usually writes lyrics for the chorus and the vocal members parts. Rappers write their own stuff and pass it back and forth to see if it all fits thematically together. 6. Then the members record their parts. Then it goes into final mixing... Of course there are things missing here cus it's complicated... but this is an overviews from their interviews, explanations and their livestreams.

Charlie Puth sang this with them in one of their music shows in S Korea awhile back. He also pronounced ‘fake’ with two syllables. I think it needs to match the music, with the two distinct notes when they sing the word ‘fake’. Btw, I’ve heard JHope (& I think also Jin) pronounce the word ‘steak’ as ‘stay-ku’ or ‘steak-ooh’ - haha 😂😂 (in one of their VLives when they’re eating after a concert). That is just the Korean version of saying those English words, fake & steak. And I think this metal band just wanted to duplicate BTS’ version.

Ok, I'm Swedish and we have similar pronounciation of consonants as in the Korean language... But, when I try to sing this following the beat it also sounds as fake-a-love no matter how hard I try to leave out the -a-. 😜

It's not the accent, in Korean, the syllable "-eu" is usually added to the end of an English word. It's the Korean way to write English.

Fun fact : BTS did see that cover and it was awesome to see their reaction even if it has been shorten. They liked it. 😉 Also BTS did some covers too but quite closed from original. I think just to show respect for the artist work. - FIX YOU by Coldplay - I'LL BE MISSING YOU by Sting, P.diddy and Faith Evans - FALLING by Harry Styles ( JungKook's cover) - SOMEONE LIKE YOU by Adèle ( V's cover) And more.... They also did a special cover of Born Sinner by J.Cole but they changed all lyrics and the song is called Born Singer. They performed a gorgeous version of Born singer during their mini PROOF concert in the middle of the Las Vegas desert with a live band and backing vocals. It was gorgeous.

What you mentioned about the different voices avoiding a "repeated" part feel "repetitive" is so on point. You already checked Run BTS, which is an example of that effect. From their newer stuff, "For Youth" has that too (and it's a completely different sound than everything you heard so far)

BTS saw this cover. I believe it was part of a Glamour special. There were many other covers too which were absolutely amazing. 💜 Also, I don't think they were doing an accent when it went from "FAKE" to "LOVE"....it's more of an "emphasis". In French, it's called a "liaison" where that "liaison" ties/connects 2 words to almost make it 1, which overall makes it flow. For example, "vous allez" (we go) is pronounced "vou-za-lez" where the "s" joins the "a" to connect the 1st word with the 2nd. So each word is not pronounced individually when spoken. Hopefully this makes sense. I don't speak Korean, but native speakers tend to enunciate each syllable of a word...usually stressing the last part or letter of a word. Perfect example of Korean-English I can think of is the word "bus". It's definitely one syllable to English native speakers, but Koreans will pronounce it like it's 2 syllables: "bus-se" or "bus-sus" (last s is silent). Language is extremely amazing!! Took French in middle school until college, but can only understand the basics. 😂 Would love to learn Korean so I don't have to read subtitles for Kdramas anymore so I can enjoy it even more!! 😂💜 Our capacity for knowledge is infinite. That's why you create more opportunities for yourself when you're open-minded to new and different things overall.

I didn't really think it was not apt to hear them say fake-u love. The band sang all the other parts similar to BTS, so y wouldn't they do so with that part too? To me the phrasing sounds better with the added 'u' . Also I think RM explained that it was a deliberate choice to emphasize the word that way. BTS themselves sang all the other parts with proper pronounciation, except this part.

Nice reaction! BTS writes 90% of their lyrics, but they don't always do the melody composition/final producing. So while there may be several people credited on a song, the lyrics themselves are most often written by them. RM, the leader of BTS, does a livestream for every album where he runs through the process they went through writing each track.

“FAKE LOVE” is written by “Hitman” Bang, Pdogg and RM, with RM producing the track. The song was released through three separate labels; the Korean version via Bight Hit and Columbia, while the Japanese version was released through Universal Japan.

Fake Love is written by the main BTS song writers: PDogg, RM, and PD Bang. Produced by PDogg. PDogg is not a freelance song writer. He has been with BTS since the beginning and helped shape the rapline's (RM, Suga, JHope) song writing and production skills. I love your critique of this cover. Such a breakdown.

Just so you know, sometimes it is their accent but in others cases it's a stylistic choice. Eric Nam, a korean american kpop star, has actually talked about this, English is his first language but the company told him to pronounce love as lobu to appease the korean market.

You're right, Fake Love fits so well into this particular and many other genres. These guys really did a good job with this cover. This is what we love about BTS, it's good music that transcends genres, eras, and even artists. Also, really great to hear commentary on both the original and the cover from songwriting/producing perspectives. Will be looking forward to hearing more about different aspects and people involved into making music, that's always fun to learn about

The ending U sound actually has to do with the Korean Language. A lot of their sentences will end with a vowel sound. (Not all!). So they will end most english words at the end of a sentence with a vowel sound if the english word ends in a consonant (or silent vowel). In addition to their own rules for the Korean language they also will change the ending of a word to have a vowel if it makes the song sound better/flow better. Similar to how when we sing songs in English will drop the end of a word to make it sound better instead of pronouncing the full word. This is done a LOT in western pop music to make a song flow better, rhyme with a word, or be more melodic.

Glad you reacted to this. It's a fun one. It's actually more respectful to sing in the original language if possible when it's in a language spoken by comparatively few people rather than translating to a dominant language like English. The pronunciation of "fake" is intentional. Korean doesn't often do ending consonant sounds like that K sound, so they tag on a soft vowel sound like that "eu." Also, it's really hard to sing fake love without doing that.
