Gday again all you beautiful people , How has your week been? Good I'm hoping . Now today i melt down a heap of dug up scrap that was found in the South West Of Western Australia not far from my house. Thanks to my good Mate Jason for donating it all. It took a few goes to get all the impurities out but i think the Big Bar turned out awesome.

HOW TO MIRROR FINISH A BAR
I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it.

Hey there all you sensational subs how are you all? I can’t believe how fast these weeks are going, But every week that passes theres a new BigStackD video to watch . Super simple today where I melt down a heap of buried metals that were dug up in the bush around near where I live. There was sooo much slag in this it was unbelievable but at the end of the day I got myself an awesome piece of buried treasure to add to the stack. Now do you guys like these longer videos or do you prefer the 11-12 minute videos? I will be putting a poll out this week about this asking your preferred length of video time as I would be super curious . Take care everyone and see you all next week And have a great weekend😁👋🏻

I hope you weigh all the different pieces of metal you have and list a tally of each type when you get to the 1 tonne goal. For making cleanup easier you could build a cyclone seperator to hook up to your vaccuum. It seperates out any solid stuff (even dust) and collects it in a bucket, leaving only the finest dust to go into the vacuum itself. I built one from cheap materials and an extra vacuum hose I got from the garbage for collecting chips and dust from my CNC router, works like a charm.

I find these melts with random scrap metal particularly interesting, because while the resulting bars may not be pure or valuable alloys, it is always exciting to see if the various metals will alloy at all or if they just become these layered slabs of metal.

8:16 - I'm about 95% certain this is the most I've ever seen of bigstackD's face - or in this case, his eyes + respirator. I do not recall seeing any part of his face *directly* viewed by the camera in any of his many other awesome videos. Sure, might catch a glimpse of his reflection after sanding/polishing the ingots, but he's consistently wearing a mask or respirator, not like here where it's been directly filmed.

I'd wager that a lot of the slag you're getting with these brass melts is zinc oxide, a lot of flux added to the cruciple before the melt might help create a barrier that floats on top of the metal.

Instead just plop it down in a vice, mill it on all sides, collect the chips for easy remelt. Don't need coolant or anything for brass, copper and aluminium, since it machines pretty easily.

Can we just appreciate how sturdy that shelf is, it's litteraly holding hundreds of kilos, and is just completely fine.

Great advice about the drill! Who knew! Any video you make of melting the heck of anything is good at any length! Please pet the little boys for us! 🤷‍♂️🇺🇸🇦🇺👍

I feel compelled to watch these all the way to the end just to see if the shelf unit can continue to hold all the weight.

Best rainbow of flame colors in this video, that blue one was dope, and then it turned blue green??? Got a lot more screenshots for computer/phone backgrounds in this video (I have like 18 already, and only 3 devices.. but still, great shots)

That's something you need to be extra careful with. Many years ago we were making fishing weights. Lead was being used for them and it came from multiple sources including buried finds. As you should, we dried everything and roasted them in heat. When dropped into a ladle, one scrap of lead contained water still and it instantly vapourised. I still carry a scar on my shoulder to this day. (was over 40 years ago!) The buried lead had allowed water to enter a chamber over the decades. A simple day long roast beside the heat wasn't enough to remove all of the water. Interestingly, the molten lead explosion actually coated the ceiling of the large building we were inside - it was stunning!

Truly enjoy your work! Two days to do this melt and then the time you put into editing, subtitles and the humor 🙃 are fantastic! Wonderful to see the Boys. One suggestion : saw on another site that they use a small cast iron skillet to collect the slag (seems easier to clean up and has a handle 😉 ).
