Metal Detecting Old Farm Yard: Silver Coins!

Billy finds silver before I even get my metal detector turned on! Please join me Billy, Thor, and my new friend Carl as we search and metal detect Carl's farm to see what we can recover. This is Carl's first time using a metal detector and I hook him up with a spare Garrett Ace that I carry in my truck for just such occasions. He did really well and fell in love with the hobby. This is part one of a three video series of us metal detecting his far. The other two videos will follow and include us metal detecting his farm fields and also the river mudflats he owns where there was once located a "tidal" grist mill a few centuries ago.

Another newbee, being taught by one of the best. The famous chigg. Everybody knows the chigg. Thanks for taking the time an having the patience to show someone how to get started using there machine. Looks like Carl is getting broke in to the Metal Detecting arena, by the silliest, most experienced group of guys he could have. Good for him. He took your advice seriously. Hopefully he will view all of your videos and as he learns, film his hunts and start a channel and post them. I would watch 'em. You all made me laugh, as usual. Billy makes me laugh out loud. I believe that small skillet that was found at 9:20 is actually a grease cap for axle bearings. Metal grease caps like that are common on older trailers.

That guy is a lucky sob but i dont think he really appreciates who is mentoring him . I would hang on every word spoken . Thank you so much for these videos . They really help me escape from the rat race of everyday life and give me ideas for future hunts. Captain Billy and Thor are a nice addition .

Found an ax head on a trip with my dad up into the woods with his old metal detector, he cleaned it up, sharpened it, then put a new handle in it, now it is the ax that I keep behind the seat in my p/u. It was a German made ax, from the markings on it, from around or before WW I, that some logger lost.

The red quarters are from business owners. They would paint them to identify their own quarters they would put in jukeboxes to have music playing when business was slow. They get them back when venders get their money out.

That piece that he found at 9 minutes and 20 seconds, was a grease cover to wheel bearings for a tractor, or old truck.

That's the first time I've see a Garrett Ace in action. It seemed to do a decent job. I've thought of getting one as my first detecting machine. I expect to purchase one in the next few weeks If I can get ahead a few bucks. Thanks for the video Chigg..

Don't know if you want my two cents but if I was you I'd put a little bit more with it and get a AT. The Ace series are good machines but in my opinion in no time at all you will want a water proof detector. You are really limited with the Ace series. If it starts raining you're done. And detecting in the water is one drop away from a ruined detector. I bought one when they first came out and within a month or two was selling it to get a AT. Hope this helps.

The default coil on the ace is really big. If you want to get up a level you would need to buy another coil for it.

Wish I had some one to teach me when I got my first metal detector but I figured it out all by myself found lots of trash pull tabs coins and some jewelry it was fun yeah I guess it would have been a lot more fun metal detecting with friends until you find something vary valuable

We have a lanyard from our beit but to the handle of the metal detector save picking it up all the time. All have do is pick up your spade.

The hand pin it the cleanup pics looks like the red hand of Ulster. The original Maine is a village in Northern Ireland. Maybe some Maine Irish Protestant settlers?
