This is the first time I have seen one in person... the iron type... Silver Dollar Digger is looking into it and comparing to what info she can find. Pretty cool find... knew it had to be something more than a big iron jumping jack. Thanks for commenting and checking out the video.

Thank you. It’s a constant battle with the wind... I’ve sewn many different types of wind blocks to fit on my phone with the current one being the best so far. The wind had destroyed some of my videos in the past and I always try to keep that from happening again. Thanks for tuning in to check out the video. I put your decal on the side of my new Minelab and in the video that’s uploading as I’m typing... it shows clearly just before my scrolling finds ending. 👍🏻 Thanks again for sending those. 🙂

The large Jack looking metal item is civil war caltrop. It was used to stop horse and men along muddy roads. Most were made in Alabam

Thank you... I try my best on there to educate and entertain. Thanks for subscribing. :) Typically in any video I do I share my settings quickly so folks can see what I'm doing but here is and idea of my settings.... Sensitivity never under 7, disc out 0 to -95 with no audible iron tones, lock track and balance often, sweep about 2-2-5 seconds per pass, slight threshold hum so I can here it drop out on iron.. SAT at 4 but that's really nothing to worry about. There would be more detail as stated in the videos, I don't have the machine in front of me right now to comment more. I kinda need it in front of me

Love the research and maps portion! Are you planning to try and find the wagon trail crossing? That would be super awesome find! Does your state have online LIDAR images? If so, then you could use the LIDAR imaging to define the actual wagon train trail. I used the LIDAR viewer for Maryland to find a lost 1877 atlas wagon road and it is an awesome tool. www.arcgis.com has some of the states in their online viewer. Luckily MD has it lists all online by County :) . Thanks for the Videos and God Bless. P.S. HH!

Thank and glad that you enjoy the maps, etc. I try to include as much as I can so folks can "feel" the site instead of just being somewhere digging. I utilize lidar although the areas I hunt in Ohio it really isn't helpful for. I have done some work for other detecting video makers to help hunts using MD, NY, NJ and VT lidar data, I can generate really tight contours using global mapper in which I own due to having a surveying business. I have to say that the northeast has some good flown data (and it's free) up there compared to here. Thanks for commenting with your suggestions as well as checking out the videos... pleasure to have ya on here.

Hi Squirrel I found the markings on the plate in a book my computer skills aren't the best I'm still learning,that was a nice arrow head one of my uncle's from Chillicothe Ohio had collection of about 10.000arrow heads, I have a few plus 2 stone hatchets 1 my Dad gave me is Celt.

Thanks for checking on the marks, I use a lot of books to research because the internet in the past 10 years has kind of became useless unless you need to buy something. Lots of talking heads with inaccurate information. That's awesome on the collection of artifacts... I don't have a hatchet and have looked for one since I could walk. LOL. Thanks for checking the video out.

You have so many great permissions. I have been trying to get permission to detect an abandoned house from at least the 1930's in my town but its owned by the town and I think I am caught in the bureaucracy. So i probably wont be able to detect it.
@squarenailsquirrel9638
@squarenailsquirrel9638 5 лет назад
I am constantly working permissions, it really takes as much time to get permissions as it does to detect. If I see a house I want to detect I mark it on my phone just taking a screen shot on google maps and holding my finger down on the screen where it shows the address. Typically I will have 3-4 places picked out in an area before I go to ask so I have 4 chances with about at 25% return on yes’s. Farm fields are easy to get permission but standing homes are somewhat difficult. On your 1930’s, try asking the Mayors office... they will point you to who you need to ask and then just explain you will respect the grounds and turn in anything historically relevant to the historical society. Just show that you care and form a line of trust... if it doesn’t work out try another and keep asking places until you get one... it’s worth it. If I lived close I’d come out there for the day to help acquire a few permissions. Are you in Ohio by chance?
@TheArgos12
@TheArgos12 5 лет назад
@@squarenailsquirrel9638 Thanks for the tips. I'll keep trying. There's a couple other abandoned houses I would like to detect, but I haven't been able to figure who owns them whether private or town. I'm still hopeful though. I'm in New York.

That piece that looks like a Jax I think it's a piece out of a wood stove they'd be on the bottom and you would turn the handles to get the ashes out there was a handle you turn it over to crush up the ashes and fall out the bottom that's what I think it is out of a wood stove 👍👍🇨🇦

Thank you... that green screen is really confusing at times but worth it. I can cover off on so much more when doing it but it really eats up a lot of time setting up and editing. The camera I’m using is the same one... iPhone 7 set at 1080P 60fps and utilizing the filmic pro app. Key to it is to never hit the digital zoom button and use exporting settings on Adobe premiere pro that maximize RU-vid uploads. It’s taken me pretty much all of my videos up to about 4 weeks ago to get everything tested and tuned. Thanks for checking the video... very glad you tune in.

The spiked thing reminds me of the top of a corner post for an old decorative iron fence. Interesting area to hunt. The wagon trail being so close to those house sites really had possibilities of great finds. Hope you get permission to hit the stream crossing area. Thanks for sharing another great hunt with great people. Take care.
@squarenailsquirrel9638

I hadn’t thought about the fence corner decoration... there was one spike that was home off which may have been the connection point that was hooked to the post. Folks on here mentioned it was a caltrop, I had to look it up to know what it was. Lol. Looks pretty similar. Silver dollar digger will be researching it for further ID. I also hope to get back by that creek... it’s a totally different kind of site to hunt being so old... may not find much but there’s always that chance of a once in a life time find laying back there. If I get back down to hunt with them again i’ll Make an effort to get back there. Thanks for checking the video out as well as commenting.

I like the presentation of your finds, it give a chance to the viewer to see different angle of each pieces. How you do it, is camera fix and you slowly move the wood support under ?
@squarenailsquirrel9638
@squarenailsquirrel9638 5 лет назад
Good to know that it helps out, I tried many things to show everything I find with this being the most effective. The camera moves and the board is stationary. I have built, re-built and re-built again the rig I use to do this. When I find time I will make some more changes so I can even out my movements. When doing the macro type video, everything from light to movement and placement really matter and it's hard to get right. It takes me a couple tries every time to get this to work out the way i want... I would have to show you a picture of what I am doing to explain the process and the rig I use.. it's pretty involved.

Hi Squirrel! Great hunt and finds. Loved the research maps and the glass pieces! Nice Rosey! That ink well bottom is a beautiful citrine...don't see that often. The purple glass bottle started as a clear bottle and exposure to sun caused the purple tint. It's a good way to help date a site. That piece fits the mid 1800's - early 1900's use of maganese to decolor. libanswers.cmog.org/faq/144135 Although not stated in the article, I recall maganese was replaced by something else due to WWI. Glass made after turns a yellowish color in the sun. I need to check my glass books (or maybe someone here can comment) for when...I recall decolorizing agent changed again in mid1900s and causing glass to remain clear. Stay Safe!

Thank you and that's a very true statement. I'm sure if I kept working house 1 I would end up with something cool eventually.. too many signs of a really old house at that site. Thank you for checking the video out.

Could be but it’s really thin... I was a little confused on it due to its characteristics. Thank you for commenting on the ID for that find... I will take a little time this weekend to check into that find some more. Thanks for tuning in to check out the video. Take care.

Thanks. It was nice getting out with other diggers and experience the hunt together. I hadn’t been in that part of the state much other than by the interstate so it was nice to check it out. Thanks on the storms.. it got pretty bad here on Sunday... just after I got home from my first equinox hunt. It’s actually uploading on the computer right now. Thanks for checking my videos out... take care.

Thank you very much Garnet 🙂 and I’m glad that you enjoyed it. It was a fun hunt getting out with other detectorists... that’s actually something I’ve only done a handful of times.

Nice video presentation! Really neat locating old homesites, and then a local tells you of another he grew up in! Those are some nice finds as well. Love history!

Thank you! It's a lot of fun just locating the house and then you get to metal detect it... I really like both. The local really helped out, he even had pictures to show us which on the next trip out I will share some if they are ok with it. Thank you for checking the video out.
