Book: "The Equinox Series Handbook" by Andy Sabisch
Muddy metal detecting adventure at a site i've searched a couple of times. This will be the last time I can visit this site until late 2019 fall after crops are removed from the field. I tried out the ground balance of zero as I have been noticing in the book I obtained as a preferred setting by seasoned Minelab detectorists... I will need to read more on why and when to utilize this techinique. Found some cool finds had a great time out exploring. Thank you for watching.

SNS ... You seem to enjoy making these videos as much as I enjoy watching them. You have a consistent approach starting with a quick review of settings and overview of the areas you hunt. I just received the same book a few days ago and it could not have come at a better time. The Equinox 800 is my first detector and the book arrived as I logged my hundredth hour of headphone time. I will simply say that it has connected enough dots to drastically raise my finds, confidence and enjoyment of my new hobby. Like a switch making a solid connection. Bam! BTW, by testing the Ground Balance as you did is a perfect example of applying a quick test in the field - before digging - to determine what works best for your situation. I don't have your experience but this book makes the experience I do have count so much more. Keep up your great and fun videos!

Thank you and glad you enjoy the videos. That's great we both have the same book.. I know that the word is getting out now that it's out there on the market and folks are obtaining copies. I had just found out about it and decided to just get one to see if it helps out. That's awesome that the book has helped your hunt, anything that does that is well worth the money. Finding more finds is great but taking care of the confidence factor is just as important.. I always dislike second guessing what I'm doing and feeling like I missed a bunch of items I had the chance to find. Thanks for your kind words and for checking out the videos.

I’ve only just found you on utube cannot believe after all the ones I’ve watched . It’s just great that your honest down to earth and love detecting. I started with a fisher and have just upgraded to the nox . It’s been fantastic I’ve loads of coins and even a posie ring . I’m from Devon England . Just wanted to say thanks .

I had the same thought process "my blue military button book has a log cabin button,, it's of some significance". Congrats!!! At 6:00 that looks like a pewter spoon handle,,, which for me is a little more special.

Ha! as soon as it registered what I was looking at the page in the book came right up in my memory. I always thought it would be cool to find one of the cabin buttons I saw and now, somehow, I actually have one.. super awesome. I have found so many spoons and handles out on this site it's kind of amazing.. I would guess at 40 plus pieces and parts. Thanks for checking out the video.

Hello... LOL.. yes, very muddy squirrel. Very happy with the finds from this hunt. I really like to find large cents but finding history like the button is so awesome. I wasn't aware of the history behind that election or how buttons were used at status symbols as well as political pieces. Learned so much from a little button with a cabin on it and enjoyed every bit. LOL.. don't be jealous, get down to that river crossing on the map I made and I'm sure you will find some very old cool finds. I really hope you try that you eventually. Thank you for checking out the video and take care. :)

I enjoyed this. It’s 2021 and I ordered an updated version of the book you showed for the Equinox. I don’t know all the differences but the newer book covers V3 software. This particular book is signed by the author. Included in the invoice was an offer for a discount on a new detector. I’m not done with the book yet but I ordered an Equinox 800 - it should be here next week. It’s winter in Denver and this place does not have the history you guys have back east. Nevertheless, I’m excited to find what hides just below my feet! I hope you have not given up all together on the videos. Stay safe and healthy!

Awesome mud bog hunt! Congrats on the largies and cool button! That's great that they sent you that aftermarket shaft to try out. I'm really interested in how you like it. I've been looking at the one with the counter balance weights to offset the nose heavy aspect of the larger coils. GL&HH!
@squarenailsquirrel9638

Thank man... and thanks for the congrats. I put the shaft on last night and its like the difference between a mid action fishing rod compared to a fast action pole... a lot more snap in the swing. I will know more about it once I get it out on some hunts though. I haven't seen the other ones with the counter balances.. sounds cool if it offsets the weight to the back under your arm cuff. Hope your getting time to fish and detect out there.. seen a lot of rain coming through your area lately.

Once again thanks for your insight , I love my white detectors and the others I have but like you I have always second guess myself and yes more trash than treasure and I don’t mind putting in the time finding areas to hunt. Looks like I we’ll be adding another detector to my collection!
@squarenailsquirrel9638
@squarenailsquirrel9638 5 лет назад
Your welcome. I too really enjoy my White's detectors and they have proven to be productive over the years. I was ready for a change I guess... just been so long using the same thing and my interest in Minelab has progressively grown over the years. I used to go to a detecting club and attend meetings.. I decided to check a club out after being in the hobby for many years. Once I got there with my V3i everyone was so confused as to why I was still using my V3i.. I defended the crap out it and eventually just left and never went back. I was die hard White's and never considered anything else until this spring. The hype on the Minelab was unbearable and after joining into social media I was exposed to many other detectorist around the world. I saw so many people satisfied with what they were getting from the Equinox and whatever machines they used to have sat in the corner and were eventually sold because of the difference the Equinox made in their hunt. So... I jumped on the band wagon and saved up. After owning one and getting used to using the machine.. I don't want to put the machine down and greatly enjoy what the machine brings to the hunt. I know this is more that you probably bargained for in a response but just giving a little history about my decision to make the change. One thing I will say since you are a White's user.. the biggest difference is the processor, the separation, the noise (hear everything), the target ID scale is tight and hard to tell a wheat from a zinc... otherwise the concerns with the battery built into the equinox that most folks talk about isn't an issue. Four allen screws allow the head unit to come off and batter slides right out when it's time to replace. You can also run an external battery, like a phone charging bank, easily while detecting. Thanks for checking the video out and good luck on any hunts you have coming up.

It seems like we will never get a break from this rain, the fields are still wet up here in Sandusky county too. I really like that log cabin button and the large cents. Keep the great videos coming.

Lots of rain that's for sure. The farmers really don't need and keeps them from planting.. although I... as a detectorist trying to get in the fields it's a good thing. Gives me a little more time to hunt before the fields get planted. There is still a really good window for the farmers to plant and have a long growing season although they like to get seeds in the ground as early as they can. Sandusky isn't too far away... I'm up that way quite a bit to shoot in the national matches at Camp Perry... love that place. The lands that you live in have a ton of history to discover... if you check into the general land office's original late 1700's records.. the surveys for the "Fire Lands" covers your area. Hand written notes by the surveyors that came through that area talk a lot about what was there back then. Glad that you checked out the video and enjoyed it and thank you for checking out the video.

@@squarenailsquirrel9638 Thanks for the tip on the GLO info, I have been looking through the surveys and found some additional prospective spots. I have shot some local matches but I haven't shot the National Matches. I do however always stop in to check out what the vendors have to offer. I also often stop by the CMP store there on the way home from work. I'm a big fan of vintage military weapons, mostly the WWII stuff.

Digging in such insane conditions worth medal of honor )))))) Damn, two medals ))))) Personally me will fight with such a mud only if the field bring me last times N+1 coins ))) In other cases i will wait till dry ))) Youre real hero ! p.s. very strange field ) in my region of Russia no one field keeps water on such a tiny deep - right after rains they are muddy but no water inside. But this looks like completely swamp )
@squarenailsquirrel9638
@squarenailsquirrel9638 5 лет назад
Ha! Thanks... no medal deserved. I’m just crazy 😂 When I have the time to go metal detecting I really must go even if the weather isn’t pleasant. This type of field has top soil and clay which holds water after rains. It rained during the night before the hunt which makes the soil wet. The field was also recently plowed up and creates air pockets under ground. When it rains the air pockets fill up with water. Very hard detecting conditions. Thank you for checking out the video and for commenting.

As you know Kenny I am a huge fan of your videos. I am about a year at it now. I am using the Equinox 800 and really enjoy the product. Do you have any suggestions on how to get permissions. I am still detecting the original permissions that I was able to get. They consist of 4 churches and one fairly old school which I attended growing up. To be able to hunt fields and old home places like you do is a dream. Please share any ideas that you may have. I am near the Kennesaw mountain area. Obviously very old homes in the area. I just keep getting turned down. Thank you in advance. Jeff

@squarenailsquirrel9638
@squarenailsquirrel9638 5 лет назад
Thanks... I make the bag. That's the third version of the bag. Someday I will have these for sale where folks can get one but I need to dedicate more time to the sheath for the hand digger and get a setup for Kydex... like gun holsters. I'm half way through the transition to that type of knife holder but not complete yet. I want the bag to the tried and tested fully before I sell any.. I can deal with my mistakes and issues with the bags but I don't want anyone else dealing with that stuff. Once I have it to the point where I feel it's "perfect" I will announce it. It may be awhile.. I have three state professional licenses to study for with the tests being in January of 2020. I need to devote my time there before I move much on any projects.

Have you tried running the auto tracking ground balance as well as the ground changes that your working on?
@squarenailsquirrel9638
@squarenailsquirrel9638 5 лет назад
I have tried the auto tracking but the fluctuation in the balance adds a lot of noise to the hunt. I historically haven't used any "auto" tracking on any brand over the years... for some reason I prefer to lock the tracking and run the machine that way. There isn't anything wrong with auto track and it does it great job... it's kind of a personal preference thing. I might give it another glance and try running it in auto sometime. Thanks for checking out the video.

Thx for the reply. I just bought an eq 800 3 weeks ago. Left S Fl for good, but got a good ten days in before I did. Used at the beach though. Stopped in VA Beach for a few days and got to beach hunt those days, as well. 800 found tons of coins, however my whites TDI Beach hunter found rings. Still learning the 800 as well. In N Carolina currently, working my way over to OK. Using 800 now at my family’s property. 10 acres. Whoa! Different kind of hunting, inland. Red clay and hard as concrete. 😆Thx for a good vid.

Nice finds. Btw, who makes your camo jacket? I want to order one.
@squarenailsquirrel9638
@squarenailsquirrel9638 5 лет назад
Thank you... The jacket is a US Military Gortex field jacket made by PROPPER in woodland camo... there are other manufacturers that are US but be weary of the non US made ones. Don't go to an Army surplus store.. go to goodwill online and bid on one... brand new in the wrapper de-commissioned US property jackets like this go for 20.00. Army surplus is 80.00 and up and used condition. Seriously an awesome field jacket.. I have two in Woodland and two in tiger stripe grey for the Navy.

Darrell... to accurately as well as give an honest opinion without having my tongue tied my a sponsor.... yes. The main advantages I have seen which some folks will argue is this.... 1) lightning fast processor 2) separation like I’ve never seen 3) ultra lightweight 4) easy to use settings wise 5) waterproof multi frequency machine (I have used a v3i for 9 years) 6) the tones are pleasant 7) I don’t have to second guess my settings and what I did wrong on a hunt... confidence is very high as a user. The major change which isn’t a downfall in my opinion... just different than what I’m used to is the target ID scale... it’s tight. You can’t get around the modern pennies versus the Wheat cents... they are waaay to similar to pass one up thinking it’s a modern penny when it’s actually a wheat. Hope this has clarity to it... if not... email me and we can talk on the phone. Square nail Squirrel at Gmail (No spaces) blocking auto email locating robots.

Your starting to love that nox 800 aren’t you. Who knows what I will upgrade to when the time is right. Looks like it was a muddy mess. Where did you find the kobalt shovel. Nice 👍 one cent you got there. That’s rain guide had some ware and tear on it. Must have used it a lot. They was definitely eating a lot in that area of the field. Nice looking button with the log cabin on it. Pretty cool in my book. Will be a nice display item. Nice 1851 one cent and a 1880 IHP cent. Thanks for sharing my friend.

Thank you and yes.... loving the Equinox. I used the “put 20.00 away” method for every paycheck for almost a year saving up to get my machine. I asked at Christmas and my birthday for money towards the machine as well and it added up just enough to obtain one. Takes time but it worked out. Also... make sure to call a dealer and get the price of one versus these online prices. There is a huge difference. Thank you for checking out the video and for commenting.

Your welcome friend. Some folks doesn’t know how to be patient like that and save up the money. It’s always better in my book in the end. Makes you respect it more. I will do that thanks for the info. I know a couple of dealers that I can talk to here local to me. When the time is right. We finally got a good rain today and it’s still raining. So hopefully tomorrow evening will be nice enough to get out and do some dirt therapy.

Have you ever tried running in auto tracking instead of rebalancing everytime I run in auto and I've not experienced any problems in loss of depth or target
@squarenailsquirrel9638
@squarenailsquirrel9638 5 лет назад
I historically haven't ran in any auto tracking operations dealing with ground balance. With the fluctuation in the distance of the ground to my coil when swinging in farm fields the auto tracking gets really noisey when swinging. There are times when I am in flat yards that I will utilize it when there are variations in soil types and mineralization levels. Thanks for checking out the video and for commenting.

Just curious if you miss using the mx sport or v3i?? Do you still feel like using them now that you have a nox?
@squarenailsquirrel9638
@squarenailsquirrel9638 5 лет назад
I was actually just thinking about that as I finished up my cup of coffee reading a couple pages in my new Equinox book. I believe I do miss running the Whites machines especially the V3i. I believe I miss it like my high school Mustang rather than due to its performance and settings. I’m currently on the fence about selling it to move the funds from the sale to a Fisher F75 or something else like a used pulse unit. I’m not really sure what i’ll do yet but when I get a permission and head out to hunt... my mind doesn’t track towards the Whites machines anymore. Maybe I should though to get them out in the field again and continue to run more than just one machine.
