Protect your saw and plane blades from screws and nails in your reclaimed or recycled timber by finding and removing them before milling and dimensioning.
Hi Darren, Awesome video. I appreciate your review. I created the Lumber Wizard about 20 years ago and I'm always here for any user that needs help. These puppies will sure save you a lot of hassle with rented blades, knives, etc. Fire me over your address and I will send ya a new Lumber Wizard 5 to have on hand. My dear pal Robert Gregory at Woodcraft Supplies in Australia stocks them so he can pop one in the post for ya. Happy woodworking! Thanks a ton, Billy Carmen Wizard Industries, Inc
I have been searching on Google quite a bit lately for something specifically for this purpose, and hadn’t heard of this product until this video & now I’m prolly gonna buy it 😁
very valuable tip to use the metal detector on the reclaimed lumber. my jointer and thickness planer started leaving some lines on the surface, after I must have hit the nails several times. luckily I use helical cutter heads, and I'll inspect + rotate the nicked blades. but I'll get the metal detector first.
Great vid Darren! I hadn't thought of using those for that purpose! I have a question for you. I'm planning on building a workshop, on my property, soon, transitioning from 3D printing to also include woodworking. If you don't mind me asking, what size is your workshop, and if you could build one, what size would you prefer to build, assuming, hypothetically, no size limitations? Thanks in advance for your reply. :)
That’s great Dave. I am sure you will love having a workshop. Mine is 6.44m by 5.79m. Or a two car garage with no cars. I wish it was twice the size though. Cheers Darren
@@DarrensWorkshop My boss told me that he once had 9.14m x 9.14m and it worked perfectly. Everything laid out well. Assuming I can work it into my budget, 7.62m x 12.19m is my goal. Even though I don’t need that much space right away, I’m sure my wife will want me to clean out the garage so she can park more comfortably in there.😀 (Currently lots of boxes along the outer walls. Christmas decor and misc heirloom things.)
This is sound advice. Bandsaw blades will be ruined instantly by hitting a nail as I have found to my cost. Defo will save you money if working with recycled timber.
