They really should have given him isolated tracks and a little bit of time to work watching him get upset that they didn't give him that was deeply frustrating because he could have done something so amazing like what he did was good but it could have been so good if he had actual stuff to work with like they really screwed the pooch on that one. You can tell how amazing he is in that main reprisal section after that middle 8 or whatever bit where the time gets SUPER weird around 10:00. You can sense when he gets back to the main section, he's no longer really counting but instead is just feeling and filling in around the groove instinctively. What most people wouuld take to incoporate into groove and muscle memory after weeks of rehearsing he can do after one listen and one play through, and gets something playable. What a gun.

These kinds of videos bring up an interesting, and I think, under-explored idea of songwriting styles from a drummer's perspective. Because, we know Dennis is never really "off-beat" but, I think his internalized feeling of basic song structure produces an interesting interpretation. Both his style and Tool's rely on "unexpected" accents, so the mix of the two is something you can't really write, which is the value and novelty of this video concept.

Dennis is definitely in a class of his own. And I already knew he would kill it, but it's still amazing how much he flowed seamlessly through all those different time signatures. God let me just fangirl over Tool for a second here and just show you guys how crazy Dennis is for trying to navigate Danny Carey's time signature maze - Schism's first half is very obvious - alternating 5/8+7/8 (or 6/4, anyway you want to count it) in the verse section and the 13/8 in the chorus. But after the 3rd verse, things get quite intense like some unexpected time signature jumpscares - the 3 bars of 6/4 + 1 bar of 11/8 in "The Poetry that comes..." section. Or the 4 bars of 7/4 + 1 bar of 5/4 at the end of the 3rd chorus. Then comes a silent 9/8 section. Also it's quite amazing how Dennis interpreted and played the 27/8 (6/8 + 6/8 + 6/8 +9/8) section - the "Cold silence has..." section. Then after a 1 silent bar of 8/4, Danny comes in with 1 bar of 10/4 then two bars of 8/4 followed by a powerful 1 bar of 5/4. Then we have a section - the "Between supposed lovers" section - in 14/4 (9/4 +5/4). And nearing the end, we have beautiful 1 bar 6/4 tom + crash fill which then leads to 4 bars of 7/4 and 1 bar of 3/4. And comes some powerful 6/4 Triplet tom patterns, the "I know the peices fit" section. And finally, Danny finishes the song off with some intense 4/4 Triplets and Sextuplets double bass Sure it's not Dream Theater level of time changes or Animals as Leaders level of Meteic modulation but what Tool does best is to make all of *THAT* multiple odd time changes sound musical

That was honestly impressive, listening to a drumless track then having a crack at it anyway. **applause**

Thats what maestros are made of. Listening to a drumless beat for the first time and played perfectly throughout the composition just by the feel of it with eyes closed.

Dude, this was amazing. I hadn't seen the original video before (though I've seen a lot of drumeo vids) and I gotta say: wow. Just wow. He could have totally phoned that in but - and I'm speaking as a drum-illiterate guitarist - what he came up with was amazing. Those quick 'snap-backs' and funked-out snare patterns were absolutely awesome. The interlude was tasty af as well. Maybe I'm totally off, but I'd be beyond thrilled to have this dude come up with drums for any metal/hard rock riffs or songs I'd written.

Dennis Chambers is an amazing drummer. I saw this when Drumeo uploaded it & thought Dennis kicked ass, esp for his 1st time hearing the track without the original drums. I;ve been a Dennis Chambers fan since I started playing in elementary school & from what I understand, he's never taken lessons....he's just supremely gifted. Sick video Samus

What caught my eye about your channel was your face expressions. You remind me of the guy in a movie called "the music never stopped" that's the only movie that has made me cry as an adult. The passion of music in your face

I love Danny Careys style. It always feels almost improvised. For me the 3 most unique and individual bans of the 90s are Tool, system of a down and at the time Rage Against The Machine. It's not their fault so many shitty Nu-metal bands started trying to rap
