I continue the Metal Earth series with the T-800 Endoskeleton from Terminator! This piece is incredibly complicated and larger than anything I've done before!

Man that thing is awesome! Great job!!! I never heard of these until I randomly saw them in the background of a TV show and decided to look them up lol. I’m very interested to say the least! I work in IT as a computer repair technician and I love tinkering and working with tiny parts and taking things apart and putting them back together, so I think I’d really enjoy these! Any tips or maybe recommendations on good first models for someone just starting out? And also I couldn’t tell from the vid but do the parts just pop out of the sheet or do you actually need to cut each piece out? Cuz that might be a little too tedious, even for me lol. Anyway thanks in advance and great video! Fascinating stuff, I really enjoyed it!!!

That's great! I always love hearing about new builders! I would suggest going to metalearth.com and looking for pieces labeled "easy" to begin your journey. You can check out my Raptor video to get an idea of the tools you'll need and a couple of basic tips: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tcClpzcQDRA.html

I can't belive this was out one year ago... lucky of me I just found out the exitence of this and I was able to buy two because I will want to build it again, what a marvellous set. I just finished mine!

I can't believe it's been a year either! I applaud you for wanting to go again. I don't know if I would have the patience to do it, though I admit the idea of trying again with the knowledge I have now would likely result in a better final product. Those eyes though......
@Turambar3791
@Turambar3791 9 месяцев назад
I think that you struggled with them becuause you didn't shape the nose correctly enought. Giving the face the proper shape makes really easy to put the eyes, but I will say that my little finger was little enough to enter the small hole and push the eyes up. Maybe your fingers are bigger and is hard to push them in your case and I will admit that it must be hard to use a tool inside there becaue you can brake things. So yeah I think that puting the eyes before closing the head looks like the correct thing to do but remember that the eyes are atached to two parts that force the head to be closed in any case. I agree with not following the instructions in some parts. In my next chance I will add the arms after closing the chest because those arms were in my way too many times. I still think that is much better to add the belly hidraulics before closing the chest. No idea how did you manage to put those after closing the chest I don't have tools to reach the little tabs from up there. My first attempt was not perfect though, because I was all the time in a hurry to go to my job so I broke some parts here and there and I was forced to use my old glue friend... but even with these little happy accidents I am very happy with the final result. I just hope to make the second one as perfect that even Skynet will be proud of me. @thehobbyistgeek6566

from the looks of it, it's very complex so is it easy to mess up or break a piece? also would you recommend age range?
@thehobbyistgeek6566
@thehobbyistgeek6566 Год назад
It is indeed quite complex. Breaking the parts can be a problem if you're not careful. The metal is very pliable, but if it's bent too many times to correct issues it can lead to a break. I wouldn't recommend an age range though. It would be better to go off of experience. Don't do this as a first project. I would suggest doing some of the standard models rated for beginners and work up to this, regardless of age.

One question - Does this require glue, or can you just snap it together?
@thehobbyistgeek6566
@thehobbyistgeek6566 11 месяцев назад
That depends. Technically it does not require any glue to complete. As with all metal models, the material can only handle so many bends before it snaps. This particular model has an extreme amount of very small but required manipulations that may be difficult to accomplish, especially for novices. Glue makes for an excellent backup solution should something untoward happen!
@tabletopstudios66
@tabletopstudios66 10 месяцев назад
@@thehobbyistgeek6566 Ok thanks so much! I know exactly what you mean. I play "Star Wars Legion" which is a tabletop game. It doesn't require glue, but it helps.

I’m just watching this video, and realizing that is not recommendable for a first timer. I’m literally 75% done with mines and it’s my very first metal earth project ever. So it’s possible, but man my fingers hurt. How long did it take you to complete this?
@thehobbyistgeek6566
@thehobbyistgeek6566 Год назад
Yes sir, definitely not a beginner model. Unfortunately, I didn't time myself but if I remember correctly it took me about two weeks to finish. About 20 to 25 hours or so of build time, approximately.

Good job man, I am actually starting on mine now in the third day and it is harder than I thought. I have done a few less difficult but a Gundam that was 285 pieces and a couple knights, but this one is way more like you said tedious. Great video and your really good at it. Thanks this helped me out a lot I appreciate it

I can agree about the frustration. Thought I could blow through it like all the others, but no. Heard the warnings about it being the most difficult, ignored. After taking about a 4 month break, I'm finally on step 30 and I just had to see how other people were doing those annoying cables. It looks like you did them 1 by 1 with tweezers and my thumbnails just can't tolerate that much. I'm using a small screwdriver to place in the middle and just bending up the tabs with pliers, but that slips too. Ugh! Never again!
@thehobbyistgeek6566
@thehobbyistgeek6566 11 месяцев назад
Actually, the tweezers were wide enough I could get 2 or, occasionally, 3 tabs at a time. In the end it was intensely frustrating and time consuming. One of the few builds I've done that I'm quite happy is over...

The problem I have with almost all the metal earth kits, is no matter how good of a job you do, they still look wonky in the end.
@thehobbyistgeek6566
@thehobbyistgeek6566 4 месяца назад
I disagree with that. There are some that absolutely end up looking fairly poor but some that look incredible in the end. I like to think I've got some decent examples on my channel of pieces that ended up looking wonderful!

@@thehobbyistgeek6566 I just wish they would fully invest in this hobby, and do both photo etch and metal castings. A lot of their subject matter doesn't actually lend itself to being made out of flat sheets. And there's other parts that just make no sense to do aesthetically, like those corrugated metal lines, the kit would look better with maybe some guitar strings instead. I'm absolutely not commenting on the quality of your work, it's actually the best I've seen when it comes to these. I just don't get why they do what they do.
@thehobbyistgeek6566
@thehobbyistgeek6566 4 месяца назад
@@patharmon9760 I can get behind that. There are a number of times I've built a piece and wondered what they were thinking in terms of engineering or methodology (the premium series Batman and Tumbler come to mind). I think the premise is limited to metal sheet prints for all of their products. In fact, after completing hundreds of them I can say I've only encountered one Metal Earth model that had a piece that wasn't printed on a metal sheet (the Gundam piece on the channel). Mu Models and Piececool use the same premise, with the same predictable results.

For some reason I thought these would be $5-$10 a kit since they're mass-stamped for pennies on the dollar. But, no, this specific Terminator kit is $30.95 on Amazon. I guess part of having a hobby is having to overpay for everything.
@thehobbyistgeek6566
@thehobbyistgeek6566 5 месяцев назад
Not really, no. The cost isn't just for the metal and manufacturing. It's for the design and engineering, both for the model and the packaging, the testing to ensure the model works, shipping costs, and a reasonable profit. Add in the licensing fees for using someone else’s IP and lord knows how much it cost to actually make this thing. Metal model kits are a niche hobby as it is. Complex ones like this are likely to have an even lower customer base. Add in inflation in recent years and I wish it were cheaper but I'm ok with the pricing thus far.
