You ever do dry flake? I tried both wet and dry over the last couple days. Dry is a mess and is gonna take a lot more clear to bury it, but seems to have a lot more bling to it. When I did the wet flake, I'm using PaintHuffer .015 flakes with a 2.5 tip. Seems like the flake is laying down completely flat and doesn't get that bling in the sunlight. Great video, love the table with the sizes. Clear and to the point.

Thanks man...ya, I have done the dry flake. Youre right, it's a mess. Small jobs are easier, but dealing with big projects makes a mess. Try over reducing a carrier to get your flake out of the gun easier, and narrow your fan pattern for more control. Let the flake flow and lay out. What color flake were you using that lost its bling??
@brianl8979
@brianl8979 Год назад
@@killingcursivekustoms Ruby Red. I think it's a matter of me figuring out how to do things. I like your advice to over reduce, because it was getting really gunky in the gun. I kept throwing more flake into the mix and not reducing it, then laying down thicker coats. So I suspect it was just bad over bad over bad. I will try reducing it more, thank you!
@killingcursivekustoms
@killingcursivekustoms Год назад
@@brianl8979 Ya, also, you can actually get too much flake, where the flake starts to shadow the other flake. "Less is more" comes in to play here.

A couple of the guns have what looks like PPS cup adapters. Do you cut the filters out of the PPS cups regardless of the flake size?
@killingcursivekustoms
@killingcursivekustoms 11 дней назад
They are PPS adapters. You can rip the filters right out of the lids. I always remove the filter when using any size flake, and even some heavy metallic paints.

Awesome video for us rookies, I'm wanting to paint my bicycle and kandy it with HOK pagan gold, using HOK Orion Silver as a base. What color flake should I use before I candy it, silver or gold flake ? I'm guessing I'll use a mix of .004 and .008 flake like you suggested. And I'm assuming I'll mix the flakes into intercoat clear ?.. Thanks for any help you can provide
@killingcursivekustoms
@killingcursivekustoms Год назад
Plenty of options here. You would get awesome FX with silver base, then .004/.008 mix flake. For small projects like this I would use HOK Kandy Koncentrate Pagan intensifier. And mix that in to an intercoat clear and give yourself like a sprayable pint, or quart, depending on how much depth you want, and how dark you want to go. I would use the intercoat clear to carry my flakes. So that they settle in it, and lay flat. Then Kandy over top, then final Clears. Or you can black the frame with black base, then pound the .004/.008 on, until you achieve almost total coverage, then Kandy over top, this will give you a super deep look. But yes, definitely carry your flakes with intercoat. Let me know how it turns out

Have you ever done crushed glass, if so what's the best way, thanks for yhe video
@killingcursivekustoms
@killingcursivekustoms Год назад
Youre welcome. To answer your question...yes I have used crushed glass. Here's my honest opinion. It gave a depth like no other flake could, and simply because it's just not flake. Flake is opaque, and reflects light. Glass let's light pass through it, but reflects what's underneath it...so you actually get a neat effect. Glass can be crushed super fine, and kinda clouds the panel. If it's not crushed super fine, you'll have to bury it in more clears. Glass is heavy, so shake the hell out of your gun while spraying. I really don't have any negative opinions on Glass vs flake, because I think they're both bad ass in their own rights. I just prefer the look of a deep heavy flake. I'm building a project truck for myself at the moment, getting ready to use some flake, and if you watch the video on it, ill teach a very cool trick on how to get your flake to really pop!
@stevecourtneyscalekustomz2602
Very cool thanks, I have a customer that wants it on a rc boat that why I asked, I been playing with it, I actually grinded up more and played with the color some with different bases, just sprinkled though lol

Question : is Prismatic Holographic micro flakes used in the color changing paints ?
@killingcursivekustoms
@killingcursivekustoms Год назад
Yes and no. The color changing paints with names like "Kameleon", "flip flop" the correct word for those would be Pigments. A super fine pearl. But...there is a pearl size, called flash, that you can visibly see, and those will flip colors. The Holographic, or Prismatic reflect a prism that give you that huge rainbow glow across whatever size your project is. This shouldn't be confused with "Rainbow flake" from the 70s. Rainbow flake is simply a handful of colors. If you were to take 2 or 3 different metal flakes and mix them up, you wouldn't get flip effect. You would just get different colored sparkles. Hope that answers at least some of that question lol

This was awesome 😎👍👍👍👍 can a super reduce a base coat and add flakes or pearls? Orcan i only use a clear base or carrier??? Thanks 😊
@killingcursivekustoms
@killingcursivekustoms 9 месяцев назад
Clear base or carrier, the pigment in any base will drown the flake out. Opaque color will completely drown it out. I have successfully added pearl to metallic and pearl base to boost it tho. But as for flake, it kills it. Also you don't want to spray a pearl additive over flake. It kills it too.

I've dry flaked before, gun and shaker, the delivery method is a mess to say the least. The aftermath is a little more work in the end because you'll get more flake standing on edge. You have to rush through most of the work, and if you don't get the coverage you wanted in particular areas, you'll have to do it again. I simply don't dry flake anymore, for the sake of saving material. Roth flakes are good flakes, a pioneering company for the Era. And the color options are bad ass imo. I just simply didn't have any on this day.
@GotScout
@GotScout 6 месяцев назад
cool, thanks. I have a truck I'm doing in a monster GLASTRON BOAT-like emerald green. Should I lay down a light base with micro .008 flake... and then do the .025 later on top? I have space so mess not an issue... dry blow with the 'flake king 5000' type blow guns... or would a standard siphon gun with no paint work? Thanks. @@killingcursivekustoms
@killingcursivekustoms
@killingcursivekustoms 6 месяцев назад
@GotScout I've had better luck laying the monster down first, and then the micro, for a super sparkle effect. As not to cover my micro flakes with the larger flakes. I've actually tried shooting flake through an hvlp gun dry, and it clogged instantly. Where the carrier actually disperses the flake evenly through the feed ramps inside the gun. Im pretty sure this is why dry flake guns are a pressure pot system.
@GotScout
@GotScout 6 месяцев назад
That makes sense... thus the clear with the micro also starts to lift and fill the valley dents from the big flakes. Then what... 2-3 clear/sand/2 clear and done? @@killingcursivekustoms
