This run/runner is so much better than the previous guy (flicky) who 'ran' Devil May Cry 3. That guy talked so much hype for himself, pretty much did a casual run and was on New Game+, this guy was humble and acknowledged how most times New Game+ runs are cheap. I love the mild mannered kinda dorky speedrunners, they seem like decent people and their commentary is usually informative and interesting.
Steve Nugent save game glitch runs can be entertaining to watch, but they aren't even close to as impressive as regular runs. Newgame+ runs suck though.
+Penelope Seale I know it's been 10 months and you probably don't care about that but actually you can use a cheat to activate all the difficulties and costumes, in the HD edition using it makes it so that you can't have trophies or save(while using the cheat) but that shouldn't be a bother in a speedrun. He also went on Very Hard, not DMD (the hardest difficulty).
The room at 59:50 is ridiculous. It's funny because it seems like Molotov's making a joke when he says it's the hardest room of the run- he makes it look easy. It's genuinely the toughest room in the run, and it is unforgiving. He throws the food the instant he comes out the door because it makes a *tink* sound. which distracts an unseen guard just off the bottom right corner of the screen in an ally. You have to nail it just right, (using the controller's pressure-sensitive buttons to hit Snake's overarm throw, rather than his underarm throw) otherwise the guard will look up and see snake running across the screen before he can make it across the street. Let go of the grenade pin a step early and guards in the center spot snake for an instant alarm (and end of the run). The unseen guard in the ally can see naked snake from a mile away and instantly go into alarm, even if he's standing over the exit. Molotov's precise path and crouch behind the crate (probably within a tenth of a second) slips out of this guard's view the instant he looks up from the food. Ridiculously precise strat to pull an hour deep.
TickDickleson wtf. I've gotten foxhound but I didn't know you could do that. Instead of doing the badass smoke grenade silent walk, I knock the dude in the ally out, and go the long way to the sewers. Where's the maintenance outfit?
"Even if you don't kill the bosses they still show up in the sorrow sequence" Because they all still die, each of them goddamn EXPLODED, I would call it a good reason for them to be "ghosts"
It's the MGS3 theme, Molotov is awesome, the people (in the room) viewing are so few that you know they are true fans who came to a bad time slot to see Molotov. Eespecially compared to the crowd for Pokemon after. And of course it's for charity donations to fight cancer. In terms of cringe, I've seen FAR worse at AGDQ. Also, anyone who's played MGS3 has (horribly) sung the theme at some point. Example: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4n1sIW_Twn4.html If you want to hear an amazing version:
It was like yesterday that Konami donated loot for this speedrun, and now they want nothing more than to kill off the MGS series for good. It's crazy how two years can turn a bad company into a fucking horrible one.
+SeanTheOriginal You should probably look up more of their history. They've had something of a streak since the PS1 era, especially towards its employees and not giving their IPs the proper love they needed. It was just this generation that they pulled batshit insane choices on Silent Hill and Metal Gear that got them into the "shitty company" spotlight.
if anyone should kill off the MGS series, it should be it's creator, Kojima, he's the one who made it and would know when it should have it's well-deserved rest, as I always say, if you keep a good game series running, you'll only make it terrible!
I have the dumbest idea for AGDQ 2016. The very first run will be MGS3. They get to the end fight and save, then wait until the end of AGDQ to finish the rest of the game
Holy...all the exploits, boss fights (except Pain), stealth paths were just exceptional, especially single-segment. Molotov is on fire (sorry). All that under 1:30? Yes please.
Bucketninja It took for roughly 26 hours my first play through ever.I mostly screwed around when I played.I should try to speed run since I have beaten the game like 50 times now. >w
If you select "I like MGS3!" at the beginning (which he did to access E Extreme), you get the extra camos you normally get after beating the game once. You also have access to all the DLC camos, but he doesn't use any of those.
I've been waiting on this one! I've noticed they always had a great run of this on their page, but as spoiled by commentary as I am now I just couldn't watch that one haha. Thanks for the great run and commentary!!!
it's cool how the strategy to beat the end ( at 42:00 ) is similar to the speed run strategy against MGS4's sniper boss, crying wolf. Sneak up to point blank, stun-lock them with grenades. I can't imagine it was an intentional design feature (like the other gazillion references/echos between games) but it just shook out that way.
Those floating pulpit is actually called the WASP. It was very much a piece of cold war technology. But it was deemed ineffective in any scenario so it was scrapped. Look it up.
people seem to be surprised that it is on EE but if you find the patterns in this game it is simple as pie i promise you i dont speedrun and don't bum speedrunning this but i can still complete it in 1hr 35min so yeah just follow the patterns
Wow he got really unlucky with The Pain. Still - really really good run. He does some decent commentary too, as well. And the other guy on the couch with him contributes in a good way, too (which is sort of rare in these runs - people other than the runner are usually annoying, lol). Also, his strat with The End is pretty amazing.
I was a little sad that there seemed to be a small turnout, but then I got to when they actually start singing. A room of that would actually /not/ be a good thing, so I guess we break even.
Principallly I could do this run as well but I would save multiple times and have to retry the hardest parts like some of the boss fights alot. Its truly incredible to be consistent for a whole run done on such a technically high level. Great work I could never stand 1.5 hours gaming without a single mistake especially playing so precisely and also riskful. Amazing!!
Popcorn theory. You order popcorn, even though its overpriced and unhealthy, and you don't even eat all of it. Its all generally the same, you just add some butter or powdery flavoring. These guys are chefs, well-crafted and thought-out playing. And they help cure cancer.
So much better than the modern run of that Jaguar Pleb especially considering the doesn't lisp and stumbles through every sentence. Not to mention how comfortable Molotov looks running this
Dude foxhound live with that time!!! DAMN. People really don't realize how huge that is, or there would be more people in there and it wouldn't be done in the middle of the night. Molotov is incredible.
Molotov should get a better time slot next time, because this was an awesome run - this coming from a guy that spent way too many hours on this game when it first came out. I love the series, and MGS3 might've been the peak not counting nostalgia value of MGS1 and the old MGs (Ground Zeroes had a very, very good dynamic, but it's looking to get ruined by ridiculous slapstick and/or poop comedy and Rising-style over the top abilities in the upcoming MGS title, and GZ by itself was way too short to be called a full game). Again, great run Molotov - you got the views on RU-vid at least!
its different watching a speedrun being done live than watching a recorded one, just like how music is different on CD than at a concert but the concert can be just as enjoyable even though it has mistakes in it.
Shockley Haynes does some awesome stuff with this game, too. This was a good run, but I'd like to see James sometime if he can make it; he has such an in-depth understanding of the game and its mechanics, and has all the makings of an interesting speedrunner.
The glitch for getting out of bounds is pretty easy once you figure it out. What you do is you hug the corner at point where you can climb up the higher ledge (it has to be a corner), and tap R1 fast. While you're doing that you press towards the corner and tap triangle at the same time. It doesn't always work, but you should just pass through and fall through the floor.
wow what a run i was expecting him to be caught somewhere ive recently been playing and knocked more than 2 hours off my first play thru time thanks to these videos still my best time is 2:40
Whoa, never thought that beating fear to get his camo could be that easy, I had a hard time since he keeps on eating and replenishing his stamina. And I wonder if there's a MGS3 stealth camo speedrun...
+Muammar Gibran Wheres the point of an Stealth Camo Speedrun? He would just run trough. I used Fear's camo too in my Non Alert EXTREME playthrough. It was basically ESSENTIAL for me to use, so i keep that 80% camo everywhere.
