I guess that depends on taste. Most of Kojima's games are extremely well written but borderline cartoonish and long winded with their plots which but itself can be a turn off. I mean 4 had what? 2-3 hours of game and 7 hours of cutsences and it's about a clone and a ninja saving the world for giant robots and a possessed cowboy. That Let's Destroy Metal Gear comic series didn't really change much from the real plot.

Imagine making a fantastic game of war, showing all the pain, casualties and effects of war, bur having to censor any blood and guts. Hideo Kojima had to deal with a lot of rules and censorship thanks to the strictness of Japan. Glad he was able to create this before he left. Also, unfortunately David Hayter wasn't asked to return to voice Snake. There's a reason why.

I clicked instantly! Some info for y’all: Kaz is the right hand man who runs mother base The Main Character is Venom Snake i won’t spoil it but there is a twist for his character Quiet breathes through her skin that is why she is wearing a bikini basically. She also has super human strength and speed The Blonde Kid is Liquid Snake a clone of Big Boss. The Man on Fire is someone from MGS3 Snake Eater The game’s story is basically about revenge for what happened to them in MGSV Ground Zeroes. If you plan on playing/watching The order is: MGS3, MGS Peace Walker, MGSV Ground Zeroes, MGSV Phantom Pain, Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, MGS1, MGS2, and finally MGS4 Guns of the Patriots. Personally i don’t think you need to watch them in chronological order because that will basically spoil stuff

Oh and the Xrays are showing you all of the damage in Venom Snake's body. If you look at all the white areas, those are shrapnel and fragments embedded in his body. Most notably the "horn" on his head which is a fragment of bone embedded in his skull from another soldier who was in the explosion with him. That bone fragment seemingly causes him to hallucinate and lose colour perception (a mechanic which was supposed to play a greater role in parts of the game that went unfinished)

My brother and I went to an anime convention in 2008, and he and I talked about Metal Gear the whole car ride. He wanted to know more about it, because at the time, I was the only person he knew who played it, and I had the reputation of beating 1, 2, and 3 non-violently (where applicable). It was kind of a 'secret achievement' to beat a Metal Gear game non-violently, or with no alerts (not being spotted). Safe to say, I was kind of an expert. The car ride from our town to the con was 6 hours, and I was able to explain MGS 1 and 3 in the SIX HOURS of time we had in the car. That's how complex the story-telling in these games is. I then explained 2 on the car ride back. Explaining MGS4 would have taken the round trip to explain. You could make a movie just explaining the plot, minus cliff-hangers, red herrings, twists and call-backs without delving into character motivations or any of the five or six deep-rooted military conspiracies woven into the series. Kojima broke the mold on deep and rich story-telling across the entire canon series of Metal Gear Solid. It's not for the faint of heart, because he spares no words on how horrifying and gut-wrenching he sees war as being. It will depress you and scar you, but you will never see anything as amazing as this franchise.

Hopefully there are some good cutscene movies for MGS. The series lives rent free in my head. That said, Hideo Kojima absolutely makes sure every game he's made in this series is canonical, the games first came out on consoles from the 1980s, or something like that. Even when MGS1 came out on the PS1, and was probably the first game that everyone got into, Hideo didn't do a soft reboot or anything, he made explicit call backs to the beginning, even as the plot became more intricate. A lot of people say "play it chronologically", which is fine, I guess, but I prefer it in release order, 1-5, plus the side games, because Hideo obviously was creating new plot as he went along, and the prequels work well as callbacks that create more depth in the older games. It's not a perfect series, but it is pretty cool.

It's interesting that you spoke Hungarian and watched the MGSV trailer. Speaking different languages is a prominent aspect of MGSV, and Hungarian has a small, but important role in the plot. If you know, you _know._ In any case, I've been a huge fan of the series ever since playing MGS1 back in 1998. It was even one of the games that got me into reviewing. MGSV isn't my favorite game in the series; MGS2 and 3 have more compelling stories, more interesting characters, and better pacing. But the gameplay in MGSV is by far the best. Being able to infiltrate a massive area from multiple angles, with different loadouts, in different lighting and weather conditions is incredible. It would've been amazing to see this game engine used more, but it wasn't meant to be...

@@Luemm3l It involves a LOT of call-backs to things a lot of people probably forget, and it feels like a convoluted mess until you finish the whole thing and start piecing the inconsistencies together. @Polymathically Psalm 22 "My God My God why have you forsaken me?.... bulls of bashan surround me they pierce my hands and feet.... they cast lots for my garments... "“He trusts in the Lord,” they say, “let the Lord rescue him.(R) Let him deliver him,(S) since he delights(T) in him.” "I am poured out like water" etc like with other passages in the psalms, genesis, (including theophany appearances in the torah) Isaiah, Zechariah, Daniel, Proverbs etc are considered messianic in rabbinic Judaism as the suffering servant messiah Ben Joseph, and to Christianity as Yeshua, Jesus bless you ❤ Edit: To expand on this is of course Isaiah 53 where you have the servant being crushed by God as an offering for sin for others, who dies and sees life and his seed afterwards, who dies with thieves and in a rich man's tomb, and who was despised and rejected, so why there is a common view of two messiahs, Ben yosef and Ben David, one messiah as the suffering servant and another as the conqueror who sets up the kingdom. Isaiah 52 the messiah draws Israel back to himself. Some fun and sad things are like people would say Jesus didn't exist despite Tacitus, Suetonius, Pliny the younger, Lucian etc and the apostles writings and the successors/church fathers of the apostles/bishops writings and josephus, because "Nazareth doesn't exist" until of course Nazareth was discovered, or another one, "there was no synagogue in capnernaum" until we found it, or Thomas Payne in age of reason "Bible is false because there were no kings during Jesus's time" until we found King Herod Agrippa's coins, or "Jesus wasn't buried in a tomb because crucifixion victims weren't buried in tombs" until we found crucifixion victims with the nails still in tombs in tombs. More cool things, are Jesus sweating blood in the garden of Gethsemane, this is a real phenomenon called Hematidrosis where death row inmates sweat blood, also another when Jesus is pierced and water and blood come out this actually happens when water builds around the lungs, it confused some early church fathers on the spiritual meaning, but it's a real phenomenon that occurs as well. Many rabbis into gematria etc say there is a curse upon reading Daniel 9 because it says Messiah The Prince must come and bring in eternal righteousness before the destruction of Solomon's temple, no wonder they say that as then if Messiah didn't come before 70 a.d. there is no messiah, those who have divided messiah into two were confused if the messiah would come riding on a donkey or horse, so the two messiahs, as opposed to the jews who believe in Jesus and himself, who state himself and two arrivals. Of course this is why Islam falls quickly because while they call Jesus messiah they don't understand what it means, and Muhammad of course denied the historical fact of Jesus dying by crucifixion (Which besides tacitus mentioning pontius pilate doing it to him, we even have an inscription that was uncovered oh pilate and dates lining up with his time being the procurator/prefect over Jerusalem) besides Muhammad being the total opposite of Jesus, Muhammad had sex with his child bride Aisha who was nine, he beheaded and crucified people, said not to trust jews and Christians, he had Ethiopian slaves and called them raisin heads, he called jews monkeys and rats, he slaughtered villages and the wives of families he killed said you can take them and have sex with them, he got caught having sex with his slave by Aisha and said he would not do it anymore then conveniently "Allah" comes and says it's fine and he can, he's a textbook false prophet, with of course takiyah being they will lie to you about what I said above, Islam is meant to subjugate the world I'd into belief by force, if you don't convert you must pay a tax, if you don't pay it you die. Allah has no love for unbelievers unlike Jesus who loves his enemies and we are meant to love all even to death, I'd write more but youtube doesn't like long messages, with eastern thought eternal universe doesn't fit the mold because and infinite amount of successive events becoming then impossible to have the present, we would never reach today because we would always have a yesterday or event before this moment, an immaterial, spaceless, timeless, mind (agency) bringing space-time into reality, is the best explanation for why anything exists including someone as amazing and as lovely as yourself 😊 So the disciples who say "For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty." And "13If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is worthless, and so is your faith. 15In that case, we are also exposed as false witnesses about God. For we have testified about God that He raised Christ from the dead, but He did not raise Him if in fact the dead are not raised. 16For if the dead are not raised, then not even Christ has been raised. 17And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19If our hope in Christ is for this life alone, we are to be pitied more than all men. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep." Since the witnesses knew whether or not they were lying and knew what it would mean to continue to say he did in fact rise and is the Messiah and God in the flesh then yes I believe them as The Messiah had to come during that time, a mind/agency creating the universe is the best cause for reality, Jesus is the most moral, truthful and charismatic and loving and honest person there is, and the most important and influential, (Buddha said he was still searching for truth, Jesus say, "I am the truth, the way and the life") Jesus gives us love and salvation as a gift without earned merit by us, not working our way to the truth or God or eternal destiny through every other religious and spiritual framework, he loves you and cares so much for you before he created you and wants a living relationship with you here and now not just after you die 😊 There's a million other things to cover that I want to say but this is probably a good stopping point but Jesis wants to remove the shadow in your life and Jesus wants you as you are right now he wants your heart and to live in you and you to know his love personally 😊 I had people prophesy over me very specific things nobody else knew about my past, things I was thinking or experienced even just the day before, Jesus healed me of sleep paralysis I had for years, depression and loneliness, I had a dream of a woman named Heather and a voice telling me their dad had died, a couple days later i meet them and they tell me about how they had just lost their dad that week, I feel God telling me to sit down and close my eyes and I see an outline of someone going to the bathroom very bizarre, then shortly after someone out of the blue asking me to pray for them as they are having trouble going to the bathroom, another was I ask Jesus alone "are you my buddy?" A couple hours later someone contacts me and they say "Yes Jesus is saying yes he is your buddy" another time was I obsessing a little over this blue suit and someone prophecies "I see you in this blue suit" etc, another time I was testing this whole thing and I'm about to be prophecied over and I have my Google notes out I had tried writing out a little story and it was about a fire and forest being burnt down and I ask God to confirm if he wants me to write this and sort of as a test because everything had been scary accurate and the person right after says "God wants you to be his little stick lit ablaze with his love, it may not seem like much but one small flame can burn down a whole forest" 😂 another one was I had this. Surreal vision looking at stars, shortly after someone messages me saying Jesus is looking at a telescope with you saying to you "everything I have is yours even the stars" another one I was in the bathroom asking God for a message for my friend Moses in Nigeria and as I'm leaving the bathroom i freeze in place and go into this bizarre trance like Peter in the book of acts and I see my friend Moses as a child playing with a toy firetruck and Jesus sitting next to him with love, I quickly tell them and they are in shock as they had just thrown away that toy that same day, another time I had gotten a word from God about someone close to me who hadn't accepted Jesus and that they had been praying to God secretly, I told them that and the look on their face was priceless as I had no idea they had been praying to God at all, they were shook 😄 this is only a handful of many a 100 times in just the last 12 months after 5 years of me being born again, there's so many more amazing things that have happened but you are beautiful and desired of God, he is a gentleman and will not force you to choose him or love him but he loves so so much, he's asking you if you will come, he will love you and cherish you everyday of your life, he will never abandon you, I beg you to take a chance and not reject God's love for you, he wants to heal you and you to enjoy a living relationship between you, God bless you so much, Jesus says to come to him for rest your weary soul he is humble and meek and tender and gentle, he loves you so much he knows everything about you, nothing about you is unimportant to him 😭❤❤ If you repent and call on his name you will be saved from hell and Jesus's wrath and judgement for all have sinned!! ❤ For God so loved The World that gave his only begotten son that whoever should believe in him will not perish but have eternal life!! 💙🙌🏻 repent all have sinned and fallen short!!❤️‍🔥❤♥️ ✝️🙏❤️

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Long story short, it's all a metaphor for the players' psychological relationships with war games and cool characters (not kidding). MGS 1-5 explore that in various ways, while on the surface, there is a thick set of plots involving twists and turns and discussions on modern topics. (Modern at the time, mostly still relevant today. Some parts even moreso.) For maximum ease of playability and understanding of the plot, and minimum surprise spoilers, play the games in real-world order. MGS 1,2,3,4,5. Following the in-game chronology (as others often suggest) would be different, and that would take away the effect of not knowing the answers until they are revealed in a satisfying way. The prequels are actually answering questions left open on purpose in earlier games, and without that shock from the revelation, given on queue, the effect is mostly lost. It's like being told Darth Vader is Luke's father before you even meet Luke Skywalker. The Empire Strikes Back is almost entirely wasted then.

Yay! i remember your last video, when i recommended watching the Red Band one. Such a coincidence to open youtube and see minutes later you actually did it. Metal Gear Solid is a Anti-War opera. This one continues the story of Big Boss, the original "Snake" from Metal Gear Solid 3. In the previous games he started a paramilitary unit called "Soldiers Without Borders" who helped guerrillas around the globe to stabilize sovereignty in their countries against the Cold War setup. Metal Gear Peace Walker takes place, if i remember correctly in Nicaragua (i could be wrong.) and is the beginning of Snake, now Big Boss after events from MGS3 when he becomes a absolute World savior from a Nuclear Threat between USSR and USA escalating after the Cuban Missile Crisis. Then he realized he is but a puppet with strings attached in this Theater of Horror. After he let loose the chains who bounded him to USA, he starts working toward peace, and many many soldiers around the globe flock to his cause, making him as powerful as any nation. MGS5 happens after a coup that literally exploded his Mother Base, a Deep Ocean Platform from where he sent soldiers to fight around the globe, and his fellow men are being hunted one by one. He wakes up 9 years after helping his friends escape from guantanamo bay (those scenes with the girl having a bomb removed from her chest and etc) and as soon as people realize who they were treating the coma, they realize there's a IMMEDIATE DANGER in the whole hospital. From there you get back on your feet and start rebuilding the largest army in the world, with soldiers again flocking to your cause...but 9 years later, you're not the only Private Army in the 1980's... so, big misteries, amazing gameplay, and a overal very good story, with the ending being "meh" for one reason: Konami at the time had fired Hideo Kojima, the mind behind the story, and finished the game themselves as it was. Things get very weird and very....improvised? as the final missions starts. What a truly terrible end for such a Legend (Kojima being kicked from his masterpiece.) I'd still recommend playing though. Metal Gear has some "monsters and robots" to remind us that even though the game is very serious and overflowing with War and Conflict, its "just a game"...or is it? Maybe its all metaphors, dunno. Also, a lot of people will tell you that this game is unfinished, and it is. But I posit that it's better this way. A Phantom Pain is when you feel the pain of something taken away from you, something that every major character in this game feels. Is it not also wonderful storytelling that the *game itself* makes the *player* feel the pain of missing something?

Kojima is always meta with his games, he's stated that the game is feature complete so I wouldn't be surprised if it feels unfinished on purpose to live up to what you said, the feeling of having something taken away and it feeling like it should still be there.

that's what i love about the MGS. even with the more fantastical elements, it's a story about war: what it does to the world, what it does to people, what it does to history and what it does to those who fight those wars. it strips away the glamour of war and shows it in all of its stupidity and ugliness. and at the center of it are solider, men and women fighting for countries that often don't care about them and for governments who use them for their own gains and then tosses them away. then it asks "what is the point of loyalty to your nation when your nation isn't loyal to you?" that's why solid snake is a gaming icon. not just for the bad ass things he's done but for his growth as a character. he went from a solider who always followed order to a man who, despite being an outlaw, fought for what he believed: making a better world for those who come after him. hideo kojima isn't heralded as one of, if not the greatest game director of all time for no reason. you wanna know how damn good he is? listen to the final codec conversation in MGS2. and keep in mind, that game came out over 20 years ago.
@AdeptusCaeiusIII
@AdeptusCaeiusIII 2 года назад
That codec call and the conversation just before the final boss fight (you know the one) shaped the very beginnings of my philosophy on the role of government at a very young age. Of course, as time moves on, things change, and the reasoning becomes more complex and reasoned, but the core belief remains the same. Kojima, in about five minutes of game dialogue, lays out one of the strongest socio-political treatises I've ever heard... As a freakin' PLOT POINT.

Per Kojima in interviews, he said it was complete. To many of us who were fans of the earlier titles, it feels like something was missing from the story, in the same way an amputee still feels the missing limb. And people are still talking about MGSV over 7 years after its original release. Well done Kojima-san 👏

The Metal gear series is a very special series that stands on its own it certain ways. The producer and director of the game (Hideo Kojima) has a very cinematic story design in his games that make them more like movies at times. The story telling is phenomenal though, in particular Metal Gear Solid 3 : Snake Eater. Even some of the themes from Metal gear solid 2 have some very interesting story threads that honestly predicted how digital media is in modern society and this games story talks about it even though it was made back in 2001/2002. I could go on about this series for hours, it’s a shame there may never be another entry in the series but it definitely made its mark on gaming

Hideo Kojima is to video games what Quentin Tarantino is to movies. He's woven the best narrative in all of gaming history. It's a story of betrayal, loyalty, identity, and so much more. It's one of the best things man has created. Explaining what the games are is like explaining what color is to a blind person. You can describe it, but it's impossible to pass on an experience without replication.

Quite a celebration vid, I've got an idea for a more wholesome game however, Spiritfarer, I feel like I already recommended it before, but it's honestly rather calm and emotional, you play as a person who has to fulfill spirits that come onto your boat's wishes, they're all somehow related to the protag, there's local co-op (the 2nd player gets to play as the pet cat who is very fluffy), all there really is simply farming, hugging, and fishing, along with the spirit's quests, you will definitely make a deep connection with these spirits, but uh...you have to let them pass on after they become fulfilled and ready to leave.

There are some really high quality Metal Gear “Movies” on RU-vid which are essentially all the cutscenes with some abridged, skillful gameplay to give you an idea of what’s happening in-between. They could definitely be good reaction material after y’all finish of the DMC series. They honestly even have similar vibes at times, MGS can be very campy and over the top as well. Hideo Kojima is certainly an interesting guy, I don’t go in much for the auteur theory of creation but he does manage to make his own personal mark on the games he directs. Like a half-naked, mute sniper with superpowers who breathes through her skin, who he definitely didn’t just think was a hot character design and came up with a really half-assed origin for after the fact.

Yooooo. You 100% nailed it when you said watching the trailer was part of the experience. When MGSV first was "announced" they hid what it was, didn't reference anything about Metal Gear and the first trailers went viral on RU-vid under a fake studio with a fake developer. Kojima even did an interview with GameSpot under fake name and kept his face obscured. Watching the viral marketing for MGSV was essential. And if you're going to be going through the stories and complex lore of the Metal Gear Solid Universe, I would say go by release date, not chronically. When they're foreshadowing events and characters in the prequels, it's better to know what they're talking about and know what you're looking at so you can be excited by it. Just my two cents.

The game was released with 1/4th of content not included and also altered original ideas for the game. It was heartbreaking. The ironic part of it is in the title itself. Solid Snake is a clone of 'The Boss' from a project, Les Enfants Terribles around 1972. 'The Big Boss' was a female operative and commander of a secret organization and 'The Boss' took her place to run covert operations This is in the game, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater, prequel. 'The Boss' aka 'Solidus Snake' is the ORIGINAL Snake in the franchise. The project in 1972 passed on the skillset to his clones, 'Solid' and 'Liquid' Snake. Liquid Snake aka 'Ocelot'. 'Punished Snake' is a clone that was kept hidden because it was not certain if he was going to survive his utmost mission that he was assigned, Phantom Pain, which he did not.

I think you've got some stuff mixed up. The Boss was the female soldier and commando who trained Naked Snake, who as part of a convoluted spy mission had to kill the Boss and the president then gave Naked Snake the title Big Boss. Big Boss was then cloned, making Solidus, a perfect clone, and then Liquid with all the dominant genes and Solid with all the recessive genes. Ocelot was the biological son of the Boss and raised by the Patriots to be their enforcer. Ocelot eventually teamed up with Naked Snake/Big Boss. Then Big Boss made one of his soldiers his body double, Venom Snake/Punished Snake, to draw the attention of XOF. Venom Snake is the character in MGSV you play who interacts with Eli/Liquid Snake. Liquid and Solid both became members of FOXHOUND while Solidus became a warlord in Africa and then the President of the US. Solid would ultimately kill Venom Snake/Punished Snake in Outer Heaven with Big Boss finally dropped his ruse and tried to create a nation of soldiers. Then Solid 'killed' Big Boss in Zanzibar Land. Liquid then tries the same thing and is killed by Solid via the FOXDIE virus the government created to kill Big Boss and his progeny. Solidus then tries the same thing again, and is killed by Raiden, his adoptive son. Ocelot brainwashes himself to believe he is Liquid as part of a scheme to bring down the Patriots and ultimately does so, dying to FOXDIE after being beaten by Solid Snake. Big Boss then reveals he's alive and he used the body of Solidus to fake his death. He has a heart to heart with Solid Snake and dies of FOXDIE at peace at the grave of the Boss. Solid then lives his few remaining years in peace. The Boss reunites with her love the Sorrow in the afterlife. Venom Snake/Punished Snake reunites with his love Quiet the same way. So even in death people get a happy ending. I left A LOT out but that is most of what you said with the mistakes fixed. Lot of similar sounding names can get confusing, along with people claiming to be each other.

Eli is the main villain in the MGS franchise as he gets older along with others thats kin to solid snake MGS is a VERY emotional game and full of philosophies,love,romance,loss and tragedy. its more Shakespearean than Shakespear itself and is a cult hit like you wont believe. just like DMC you have to start with different orders to get the chronological story order. you can skip all the little spinoffs the order is as follows MGS3-snake eater/peace walker/ground zeros/phantom pain/MGS1/MGS2/ and finally MGS4- guns of the patriots. i highly recommend watching. Venom snake Bigboss/naked snake and solid snake the main portag, are not the same people you'll find out that all the games and people are all connected in some way shape and form to one another its just one big story so good they're even talking about making a live action movie on it. and what Metal Gear is, is a military weapon of mass destruction that changes models from time to time snake usually has to fight it

There are some videos here on RU-vid that go into the full story of the franchise one is METAL GEAR SOLID | COMPLETE RECAP OF ENTIRE FRANCHISE! which is about 3 and a half hours long and then there's Metal Gear SAGA - THE MOVIE (All games in 12 hours) which is as the names states about 12 hours long and then there's a a playlist of 11 videos that varies in length of between 10 minutes to an hour

You definitely should check out the metal gear series it's like a daytime drama series like 'days of our lives' meets call of duty. The story has so many twists and turns its honestly hard to keep up with all of it. That's why the series has such long cuts cents because there is so much to unpack. But definitely a great ride, but instead of mowing everyone down, which you can, it's more geared toward avoiding conflict, you can make it through the games without killing anyone but the bosses that you have to fight against.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames hideo Kojima was the man that made the metal gear series and he has always done amazing story telling. Just how vast the story covered from all of the metal gear games. But I hope you guys react to the story of the games, always like seeing the faces of people discovering the metal gear universe.

These were conceptualized by the same person who was misidentified as former prime minister Shinzo Abe's killer, kek.

You should also watch stuff for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. It's a spinoff to this series where you play as a cyborg ninja, and it's absolutely insane. One of my favorite games of all time.

I would actually recommend the release order. Some stuff will feel out of place when you go by chronological order without prior knowledge

if only Konami let Kojima finish MGSV it would be absolute masterpiece....the game was rushed so the last 30% portion feels wrong
