For the people who are complaining that the game is repetitive... MGS V gives you the freedom to approach every situation the way you want. If it feels repetitive, then it is because your own approach is repetitive...
71 hours in, 31% Completion... TBH I hope it doesn't get to 100 any time soon, I love the game and don't want it to end, to the missions have amazing replay value since you can approach every situation with different styles
Why do people care so much about a reviewers opinion? "IGN gave this a 10 whine whine whine" Why does IGN hold so much power over you? It's their opinion. yall act like IGN has the ultimate say in how good a game is. A game is as good as you want it to be.
+Tristan McLean Because Americans are sheep in every sense of the word. They need someone else to tell them if something is good or not because they cannot think for themselves. In a sense, this isn't the peoples fault. The Government has facilitated this over 300 years and has the people right where it wants them. War is next.
Dude ur talking about IGN they do the reviews and they decided to give some fanboy a review chance basically he fucked it up 4 days later same guy tells people he hates the game but it deserved a 10 WTF HYPOCRITE! !!!!!!
Gives 10 People are mad Because it's Unfair Gives 9 People are mad because The Game is Great and it Deserves the 10 Gives 8 People are mad because it's Too low
+funkerjunkie true, bad pc port, and repetitive bat mobile, but apart from that (sadly only on console) it's a great story, great setting, and even greater characters
+A Very Intolerant Pizza Slice Yes HATE!Because it doesn't by any means DESERVE this 10 out of 10!Even if the gameplay is perfect! What about the story? What about the gravity of the plot itself? What about the choises you make?THis game is 8.5-9.0 at most with all its pros!
+Arseniy Kovalenko you are a idiot if you think this doesnt deserve a 10. you obviously haven't played it. this game is so amazing. the story, the gameplay, you have a choice between completely sneaking through missions untouched or going in loud and destructive. its basically the perfect shooter
Blitz Kaiser who are you to judge? witness, when you bring true evidence that konami are the bad guys then we can talk, cause you don't have enough details about the firing of kojima.
TheKing3234 alright, when i saw the credits at the beginning of the game i saw kojima's name. second, how do you know that konami treats their employees as shit? and even that when you say f*** konami you are also hitting the employees you are defending, using the term "f*** the head of konami".
I still don't trust anything Vincent has to say ever. He likes to jump to a certain side of an opinion and stick with it no matter what. Game could be great and it probably is but Vincent is an unprofessional reviewer if you ask me
He's super knowledgeable of the medium and demands of it the same as other story telling mediums. He obviously enjoyed this game and laid out all his thoughts. 10s aren't handed out lightly. I recomend listening to Podcast beyond 408, he explains all his thoughts out there and gives some insight into his review process there.
+ikamts2 I agree though, for example he doesn't address how niche this game really is at all, the intro for sure will probably put quite the hefty amount off, and even playing it for a few hours I've noticed some things that do detract from the experience. Although i must agree, from what i have played, it's way above most games i have ever had the pleasure to play
+ikamts2 I hope u realise that all big gaming companies cannot give an honest review, its one of the bigger issues in the industry atm. you can get a good gist of the game but dont pay attention to their scores especially if its a perfect 10 lol. on another note its a mgs game so i doubt its not worth buying
+Myles “JuS1aWeSoMeGuY” Johnson That's an excellent point lol, I never even thought of that. I mean, Donkey Kong 64 was my childhood but I don't think I ever even knew what the game was about. Did that make it less enjoyable? Hell nah. If people want deep and intriguing storylines as the main attraction of something, they should look for movies and other forms of entertainment, not videogames.
Mrthekingize I know this comment is old but it’s very misleading considering the potential of video games as storytelling. Enjoy them however you want really
@@nicknet9269 ehhh i think it honestly has taken more than it has given in a lot of cases. Destiny is my favorite game of all time. Terrible story but everyone agrees the gameplay was exceptional
Yeah. Nintendo games are pretty much the only triple a game devs nowadays that makes video games fun and entertaining rather than story based games with unskippable cutscenes
metal gear story is finished. Metal gear solid 4 was the resounding story wrap up. This is our own created experience, where WE direct our own legend. This is the perfect follow to the long winded story heavy 4, an open world big boss simulator. The perfect bookend.
I'd give this game a 10, hell I'd give it an *11*, and even I didn't think the story was up to the standard of some of the other MGS titles. The sheer brilliance in craft is what gives this game an immediate 10 in my eyes. From a technical standpoint it's perhaps the most impressive title I've ever played; the intricacy of the game's interconnected systems is mind-blowing, and once you unlock FOB missions, the integrated PvP elements take it to a whole, WHOLE other level. I've spent hours meticulously outfitting my base with security devices and "farming" better recruits to defend against other players. From an RPG/completionist standpoint, I don't think I've ever been this satisfied with a game.
+Damien John Agreed. The first few levels felt a little bit flat, and I thought the rest of the game was going to be that way, but, oh no, it just kept getting better and better, until I became flat out addicted to it. I haven't been so addicted to a video game since MGS3: Subsistence and Resident Evil 4.
Agreed, the story is pretty straight forward tbh, whoever complains about the story never played a mgs so they don't understand and blame the storytelling instead of listening to cassette tapes for more background knowledge. Filthy casuals.
+Big Boss Well the game seriously has alot of contents even though animation, graphics and no anti-aliasing is a little bit off. I blame them for make this also for old gen consoles.
+Darthadios Then you should not even play a MGS game. This franchise IS about story, with good gameplay but the most important part is the story. This franchise is like a TV Series with gameplay, every single game features 30+ min cutscenes. And I hope this still goes here on MGS5. Im sorry but you sound like an avarage third person shooter player that only cares about shooting, theres a game called Socom if you want to try it. Because MGS is about story and period, not this slow motion stupid idea they had to implement to make oeople like you feel interested on the game because if its not because of that new thing I bet you will NEVER beat any MGS game.
+CarlosG 0619 I completely agree . As far as the MGS series goes, the story IS and ALWAYs be about story telling . MGS4 was incredible for that reason alone .
When i player Gta V i thought it was going to be amazing and i was gonna have hours of playing but I finished the story in like 2 days and most of the content is in online mode is metal Gear v like that too? because once you've done the main mission things get pretty boring , its pathetic give me your review about the offline version of MGSV
Bino Kenye the only content that misses from mgsv offline is mgs online what i mean is all of the game's content is included in the actual game from the 50 main story missions the the 157 side ops the only thing you cant have access to while playing offline is the fob mode which i dont really like cuz it really messes with your single player experience but is well thought out never the less and its the best game of 2015 for me in terms of gameplay graphics and rewarded creativity
As a Metal Gear purist, Snake Eater is still by far my favorite in the series. It's a little unusual to be playing a Metal Gear with such little story. Not to say that MGS5 is bad, not by far, It's just such a dramatic change from the series. THOUGH, knowing that i'm playing as Big Boss himself (aka Mr Snake Eater) gives me a nostalgic feeling all in the same. I give MGS5 an Ocelot rating of 4 out 5 "You're pretty good's."
I'm a metal gear purist myself too but in my opinion, 4 is the best. The game was very nostalgic (I love psycho mantis!!) and brought back many old mgs1/mgs2 memories. Not to forget the sad cutscenes that left me in tears(microwave room, raiden and the last fight with ocelot).
I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this but can somebody tell me if I'm missing something here? This game is literally NOTHING like the other MGS games. I've been playing it for about 15 hours now and aside from the prologue, there is absolutely no story whatsoever, the setting never changes, and the missions are almost all exactly the same. None of the villains have shown up since the prologue either, not even the slightest mention of anything that happened prior to going to Afghanistan. Wtf is so great about this game, it's just skulking around an unnecessarily huge and empty desert with nothing to do but sneak up on the exact same looking enemies over and over. I'm a big fan of MGS and stealth games in general but honestly I would give this game a 6/10 so far (maybe even a 5) compared to 3 and 4 which I would both give a 10. I can't believe I'm saying this but that last CoD game was more inventive than this.
LiangHuBBB Yeah I'm about 7 more hours in and nothing has changed except I finally got to some story with the 6th mission but that was it and the menus for the iDroid make literally no sense at all and it explains absolutely nothing lol
+reallybeenfar I like the slower paced story, almost gives it an air of realism, it's basically a shadow war, it's not gonna be event after event after event. The desert is amazing and I love traveling it, and are you suggesting they should have cluttered it to be less "empty" because that would suck. The gameplay and stealth is WAY less repetitive than any of the other MGS games, it's always something new even when going into a area I've been before. Also, seriously, less iventive than CoD, it's your opinion if it's not enjoyable, but that is completely false, there hasn't been a game this inventive in years.
+reallybeenfar If you're a fan of the previous games, you weren't the target audience. The untapped market of new players is who Konami was going for. Sorry, but you don't matter anymore. Square Enix have realized the exact same thing.
This is my type of game. I could play this shit all day. Maybe it's just me, but this is my game of the year unquestionably (unless Uncharted 4 comes out this year, in which case it's second)
alejandro espinoza I got to the sort of last level where you replay the prologue and see a different cutscene. I was too insulted at that point to replay anything else.
+m nieker this story was incredible? I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it. This and Witcher 3 are probably my all time favorite games. The gameplay, the story, just everything about these two are 10/10 for me.
"And tho I do wish it story delivered memorable moments more frequently... It gave me all the tools I've ever wanted to create them for myself" ==> this has got to be one of the best descriptions I've heard in a while...
idk, i prefer mad max. i dont like crouching around and hiding under a box for the majority of the game, unlike mad max, msg5 doesnt have intense action 24/7. in mad max, every corner you encounter a patrol, and if you're lucky, you will encounter another patrol and so on until you have an army on your back trying to kill you.
jojo kyle mad max is repetitive, however i have well over 20 hours in, and i do not get bored. the trick is to set challenges for yourself, eg; build every archangel (trust me it gets painfully hard). at the end, it comes down to personal preference. I have seen msgv5 gameplay and honestly it looks like a open world splintercell. we have our opinions about each game, atleast we arent saying black ops 3 is going to be better than these two (msgv5, mad max), one thing for is got sure.. if fallout 4 lives up to the hype, msg5 and mad max will be blown out of the water.
+shockjockey16 Ive got to disagree, to me best open world story and best open world mission design. Some of the missions felt like they came straight out of a movie.
@@MK-wv5uw Come to motherbase, go to helicopter, pick a mission, pick a loadout, head out, do the mission (90% of time either kill someone or extract him), call in a helicopter and go back to motherbase. Rinse and repeat. And to make it better, the story is absolutley horrible.
@@marwan3962 Yes, i came back to this game with an open mind this time and realized there was a nice game behind all the cut content and cons, i probably irked someone before though, i am loving the game now.
Not me, i just wanted to see why people hate this game for some reason, it's a great time waster with an interesting story. It feels like i'm playing some sort of... elaborate Manga...
+DON-EAZY- E Yeah, this sounds familiar.. Red Dead Redemption received a 9.5 because of a glitch or two. However, this game has supposed lack of some story, yet it still received a 10.. ? What a hypocrisy! Either way, both are great in there own right. As for any game receiving a perfect, that's impractical, for if it is made by humans, then there are always errors to be had.. somewhere.
+More DC, “the Knight, the Dukes” Less Marvel Whats wrong with Splinter Cell? MGS may be considered one of the best stealth game out there, but Splinter Cell is no stranger to that either. Splinter Cell redefined the way many stealth games are made today, especially making the shadowing system in games work with stealth, and with an award winning multiplayer that is unique and engaging all out once. Blacklist in my opinion being one of the best stealth games ever made, and after playing MGS5 after a night, I would say MGS5 has a much more sophisticated stealth system than Blacklist, but in some ways Splinter Cell dominates. Both franchises are amazing in there own way in the end. If you think Splinter Cell sucks, play the first one then, you'll get a challenge out of that and you will come to appreciate it more.
Fan of all MG series my favorite MG Solid 3. I bought this game 4 years ago played it and now started all over again on PS5 and still having ton of fun.
Patience and being-tactical This is what the game is mainly all about Never engage enemies just focus on the target. "Get and leave" should be your motto. Moving fast will cost you a lot more time in this game while taking it slow saves you even more.
Personally, this is the best game I have ever played. The game might not have the same type of story telling like previous games, but in my experience of the game, i found it extremely satisfying. By mixing side-ops with main missions, it became one hell of a playthrough. Listening to the audiologs while sneaking, planning where to go next and completing side-ops missions, it's been amazing. I loved every part of it. The story, even though it was cut due to budget issues, was still amazing and satisfied me. And whenever a cutscene appeared, it was damn good. This is just MY opinion, you might think otherwise. And if you do, that's okay. I'm not going to argue on why I love this game as much as I do, I just do. It's the Metal Gear i've always wanted. It broke my heart when Hideo Kojima left Konami. I can't wait to see where he goes next. And as for Konami, I truly hope you find the perfect team for Metal Gear Solid 6. Kojima is a true mastermind, but the world has more than one mastermind. I'm sure Konami will find someone who shares the same passion and marvelous ideas for the series as Kojima himself. Atleast that's what I want to believe.
Honestly one of my biggest gripes about Metal Gear Solid 4 was all of the story because if you skipped through that it's really not much gameplay the second go round and I like the way this one gives you the story in the version of those tapes if you have time to listen and if you're a Mgs fan you'll have time to listen so I like how it kinda lets you get deeper into the gameplay.
This is the first game I ever pre-ordered. I had been hyped since the 2013 trailer & bought an Xbox 360 just because of it. It was worth every single second.
Cons Repeating missions Managing motherbase Lack of cutscenes Baron open world Repetitive outposts Underwhelming bosses Honestly, this game is far from a perfect 10
I love this game. It has an EXTREME replay value to its missions, but almost paradoxically, it's not about starting the game over. You can replay and remaster with your current skillset and weapons and progression, and the missions never grow old, being adaptive and increasingly difficult. (For the non-lethal player like me, better enemy soldiers means bigger challenge AND bigger reward.) There's also going in guns blazing (and amazingly going in guns blazing non-lethally), which was rarely an option in older MGS titles. 420/10.
Not trying to hate, but wouldnt a game rated 10/10 have no cons. !0/10 literally means perfect, but having a con means it is not perfect. I guess it is just close to perfect
+Harry Byrne a perfect game is impossible. just because achieving perfection is impossible doesn't mean that our rating systems should be restricted to numbers below 10
Well on their scale a 10 is a masterpiece, not exactly perfect but a level of unrivaled craftsmanship. Because, like you said no game is without fault.
@@DELEGIWAonline Too expensive for them to make AAA games, they only want to make mobile games and those Pachinko machines. Hope they do make MGS 6 but I doubt it.
Been a metal gear solid fan for a long time. This review absolutely nails it. Every aspect of this game is amazing. Best intro scene to any game i have ever played. I will say i wish there was a bit more of a story to it. Imagine if MGS5 had a a storyline like MGS3.
I really, really struggle to get into MGS:V. I can entirely see where the polish, the fantastic game mechanics and design is just top tier, I just can't get myself through it. I constantly hear how great it is and I can see why its received such high praise, I just wish I could enjoy it as much.
Boyo Wonder well fallout is garbage. I thought the same exact thing and then I thought while playing "this massive world is empty and dull as hell" I mean the voice actors are the worst. You can totally tell when an actor has been used. Same for skyrim too.
+Paco Incest Absolutely, they were so much better, im not against the open world but it really doesn't feel like MGS. The hospital prologue had me thinking this would the best ever. Then it all just goes downhill. Don't get me wrong the level of content is huge, its just souless and I'm not sure how you cant say this isn't repetitive? Extract a prisoner, Extract a soldier, Destroy something for every mission and every side opp. Its potentially one of the best games ever made but for me the worst metal gear experience i've ever played. The story is insulting, no David Hayter(which i still don't understand), hardly any characters that feel like real MGS characters. Harldy any exciting cutscenes. Comparing the bosses in other MGS games and in this and there are hardly. The ones we have all feel like mini bosses. The skulls just feel like the frogs from MGS4. I can't really go into detail without spoliers.
+Paco Incest Shut up!!The game becames very boring while you pratically do the same shit over and over and over again. Yea,the old ones are better isn´t a surprise?LOL NO ITS IS NOT!!!(=_=)
+Paco Incest Exactly ! Every time I crawl in enemy encampment I feel like in MGS, when something goes bad I can run off or try to be Arnold /Commando but in the end I love it all. Not to mention collection stuff and having your private army which cares for you.If you need score its the highest 9/10 you can have for me :)
JSK R So im boring because i find boring doing the same shit over and over again in the game, great logic you got there...See Jonny, this is the retards of the new gen.
For me it will have to be either Witcher 3 or Fallout 4. Witcher 3 was absolutely amazing and was joy to play through. Same should be said when Fallout 4 comes out. Not a big fan of the Metal Gear series but might pick this up soon.
I feel like Kojima should've ended the series at 4. I don't see the point of making a 5th installment. He should've started developing Silent Hills shortly after MGS4 and not start it halfway through development of MGSV.
metal gear solid 5 is one of the best games I have ever played in my entire life so much to do so much content so much replay value this game is the definition of masterpiece
For me, this game is a 9-10/10 but with mixed feelings. The story (while good) is the worst in the series and the replaying the missions in chapter 2 pissed me off although that's not Kojimas fault. The insane detail and design of this game is simply mind blowing. Only this and The Witcher 3 has this level of detail and realism in its world. The way you infiltrate areas, the guards realistic dialogue, the fantastic AI (possibly the best AI ever in video games) And then of course, the best gameplay ever.
+catpilan20 Yes micro-transactions make anything bad, it's not like... I DON'T have to use that option. And so what if the story is just a smig disappointing, he just said it was not as impactful as the other games in the series, doesn't mean it's bad.
2015 was a great year for gaming. No matter what you liked, there was something for everyone. 2016 was also good, but very quiet. Here's hoping next year will be better.
So first it was MGS 5, then two years later came Breath of the Wild. It's like Japanese devs have all of a sudden discovered the incredible appeal of immersive sim games! I hope this trend continues, not just with Japanese devs, but for gaming in general. We need more developers jumping in to the immersive sim genere, because apart from the two games I mentioned, the only AAA level immersive sims I've seen in the past several years have all pretty much come from Arkane Studios. Arkane is easily one of my favorite developers, but they probably can't keep this genre alive on their own
The Platinum for this game is pure pain. Get S ranks on every mission, get all the mission tasks, get all the animals, get all the blueprints/key items, get all the photos, do all the side ops....yeech. The trick with the game honestly is finding the best way to get S ranks and get the tasks done.
Ok, I'm a HUGE fan of the Metal Gear franchise. I can even say that is unquestionably my favorite videogame franchise of all time. However, I really have the feel that all this 10/10 reviews were buyed by Konami. It's a great game, no question about it, and one of my candidates for GOTY this year (still waiting for Fallout 4, though), but... Is it really better than MGS or MGS 3? MGS 3 was, in my opinion, the best game of the series, and one of the best games of the past decade alongside (again, in my opinion) with Half Life 2, Shadow of the Colossus, Portal and Braid. IGN gave to it a 9.6, which is an excellent score and a sincere one, because it was amazing, but it wasn't perfect. The technical mistakes that took away the perfect score from Snake Eater were corrected in Subsistence, which despite being such a masterpiece, received an 9.8 from IGN. The Phantom Pain is great, and I'm really enjoying it a lot, but is not the best game of the series and is far from being Kojima's masterwork. To be the most expensive shouldn't be confused with being the best. Is it better than MGS 2? Sure it is. Is it better than MGS 4? Very close, both are really good. Is it better than MGS? Not even close. Is it better than MGS 3? Ludicrously false.
+Gabriel Gallardo gameplay wise its the best mgs no doubt but story wise no. its completely opinionated. mgs3 is still my favorite but MGSv is basically the "best" due to the fact that it wont age poorly like the rest have. its story suffered from pacing problems and the ending didnt have a traditional mgs climax but yknow what i mean. its hard to say because this game does not feel like an mgs game
Dan M Although is not the best of times for Konami (which is entirely their fault, by the way), the truth is that they still have have tons of money. They didn't want to spend it, which is different. And is not like all the companies do this kind of stuff, but I'm feeling that Konami is doing it. Even a shitty and generic game like the new annual edition of Pro Evolution Soccer have ranks above 9 for nonsense reasons all over the web. I really can't tell for sure because I'm not into videogame journalism, but we have to be honest here. Is pretty obvious that these reviews are inflated. Konami had to push the journalists somehow, that's the only logical reason I can think about. And the first 'somehow' I can think of is money.
Barely any boss (NO FINAL BOSS), repetetive gameplay (you will go to the same locations over and over again to do the same thing over and over again), the map is dull, and you dont get any incentive to explore, lack of the storytelling the series is known for, Snake barely has any dialogue. My point is, I actually likes the game, i find it a good game, but its not even close to be a 10/10
