The fact that this series spawned 3 to 4 actual albums, had actual metal musicians guest voice some episodes, and had actual concerts. It's absolutely incredible.
The creator of the show Brendan Small actually is a huge metal head and went to school for music before getting into animation. He actually wrote and plays the music live.
He wrote all the music and made the show then Adult Swim fucked him and stole rights to both and now he can no longer make Dethklok music. He makes music under his name
My dad was in a band, and I can’t count how many times my dad has started cry-laughing from this show. He says it makes more sense when you’re in a band. I also practically grew up on the band.

Brendan Small is a brilliant human being. Hes does most the voices, the scripting and story and of course the music (On top of juggling other projects). The animators are top notch too (pay attention to their fingers when they play).
It's really funny in metalocalypse where occasionally you'll have all band members voiced by brendon just trash talking one other band member, that isn't voiced by brendon (probably murderface tbh lol). So it's just Brendon trash talking one character from 3 different angles and for some reason it's just really funny to me.
Nik, they aren't really saying all metal heads are dumb like that. This is supposed to be a band that got SO huge, they become like fuckin' trillionaires and they get used to having everything else done for them and no matter what they do to their fans, the fans love them. Keep watching.
As a metalhead for over a decade, Dethklok made me feel happy because I had a Cartoon I could watch that dealt on the topic I can relate to. You guys should check out the band Archspire- Human Mumuration if you ever get the chance!
Yes, exactly. Imagine my disappointment when I got the DVD and the audio sensors were removed from the swear words. I actually liked the sensors they added for the TV broadcast. It actually added to the Metalness of the show.
A year late, but Metalocalypse has grown famous with guest metal artists. The legendary Angela Gossow voiced a sort of succubus obsessed with getting Nathan’s seed, Hetfield as Lorkey who trained Dethklok as “Komedians” and the lake monster in the Awaken episode, and Corpsegrinder as the masked assassin trying to kill Dethklok. Season 3 has full length episodes and the over arching story becomes much more prevalent. Plus season 3 has Crush The Industry which is one of the best metal songs ever written period.

When you realize that a lot of the show is actually brilliantly metaphorical and comically satirical to the theme of metal it's actually a lot better than the first impression which appears as gore for the sake of gore and shock factor. They did a great job with the encapsulation of what metal "felt" like especially to those on certain substances, and the show also kinda evolves over time with it's visual metaphors. At least that's how I saw the show
Brendon Small was probably the hardest working dog in entertainment for the years this show was on, he would be touring on the first album while also writing the second season/album, lather rinse repeat for like 6 years non stop.
Not sure if you heard earlier this year but its coming back actually. "In May 2021 it was announced a direct-to-video film is currently in production, with it later announced the film would also be released on HBO Max." I think they mentioned it would also be happening for Aqua Teen Hunger Force too.
A metalsong about coffee... dude, you should listen to the whole Ziltoid The Omniscient album by Devin Townsend. It is about a 4th dimensional evil alien who is searching for the best cup of coffee. But unfortunately for earth he gets horrible coffee, so the rest of the album is about war and destroying planets because of that cup of coffee, it is genius!!!
Even more genius is the fact that it's really just a guy day dreaming the whole thing, while working as a barista at a coffee shop. Fun fact: Devin Townsend wrote every piece of music, performed every part, did all the singing, all the voices, edited, mastered, and produced this album himself, over the course of one winter, while locked away in his studio.
Metalocalypse is my teenage. Amazing show, I loved how Brendon Small grabbed every single stereotype and clichée of the scene and made a parody of them so on point. Best part is that you get guest artists to do guest voices, such as James Hetfield, Scott Ian, Silenoz, Angela Gossow, and many more. I still like the show and it pained me when it was cancelled.
You should definitely keep watching and look into Brandon Small. He is the person who makes the music for it and he is a very talented musician! The show becomes more about the music as it goes on. They lack basic awareness of things like grocery stores and how to cook because they are billionaires ;) not because they are “stupid metalheads.”
This show gets better and better as you get watch it. Especially when it makes fun of real stuff. They have an episode spoofing Some Kind of Monster, and a couple episodes spoofing Guns and Roses
I honestly don't believe it either. He's heard of Aqua Teen Hunger Forc, but not Metalocalypse? All my friends, in high school that liked metal, watched this show. And it was on right after Family Guy half the time.
My favourite moment from the series is when they’re facing their own mortality (receiving desth threats) and getting body doubles to take their places at shows or whatever. They get mad at their manager and tell him to call desth something else, and they land on substituting “death” with the phrase “hamburger time.”
This show is beyond BRUTAL, I've seen the entirety of the show and klok opera multiple times and love it all xD all of the albums are amazing and the creator of the show Brandon Small is an all around boss. Also he recruited Gene Hoglan on drums And Bryan Bellar on bass but Brandon does all of the guitars and lyrics ;o Dr Rockso is my fav character along with Toki haha

One of the funniest things about Metalocalypse is Brendon Small is the co-creator, co-writer, and composer for the show. Previously he made a show called Home Movies, presented in squiggle vision. To go from something as campy as Home Movies to Metalocalypse is just way too funny of a contrast. He does the voice of most of the bandmembers too
Pretty sure Brendon Small does all the music which is great not just because of the brutal metal but every time there's a lighthearted scene or they go into a store the fluffy furniture music that plays in the background is also him. He has super creative dexterity when it comes to composition.
The lack of understanding is the fact that they’re the biggest band in the world and control part of the economy and government. So they are used to everything being done for them like a celebrity. This is all of my all time favorite shows. So over the top and BRUTAL. Fucking amazing.
You gotta also check out Brendon Small's solo albums. That dude is so absurdly talented. Also, Gene Hoglan was the drummer...so 100% metal cred in the music.

The first season of Metalocalypse might have been the hardest I have ever laughed at any show. It’s hard to catch lightning in a bottle like that. Murderface’s birthday was just awesome

Ya ever hear of this fun little show called ‘Mr.Pickles’ it’s about a satanic dog who kills people and it’s always looked at as nothing is happening. The theme song is pure death metal
This show was written for guys who have tried to put together metal bands and who know the pitfalls- that's what it really came down to being about to me anyway. And you get really invested in figuring out what's going to happen to the band, are they going to be able to keep it together, will the ppl behind the scenes end up ruining them, will the fans continue to idolize them seemingly no matter what they do- it's really fucking good. Also touches on the idea that metal doesn't really need to be mainstream- that part of its appeal is not being mainstream- love that. At the same time, it touches on the idea that mainstream or not- someone has to produce it, someone has to distribute it, and for that to be done- you don't get to own and control it like it's all yours. Who the hell would've thought any of that would be interesting enough to captivate a general audience but- apparently it was.
I remember when the first Dethalbum leaked and you saw the dialogue change from Dethklok being a joke band to them being actually GOOD. What a time that was
You NEED to do more reactions of this show. As seen here, the original pilot was based on the premise as a mockery / OTT depiction of “metal”, but ended up producing absolutely brilliant work, which just improve as the show progresses. As well as the actual albums (Dethalbum 1-3) which take music from the show extended into full songs. It is an absolute masterpiece from beginning to end, the creator Brendan Small is a absolute genius. He got fucked over so hard by Adult Swim that I still don’t watch their content due to it. It is great to see this show get new viewers, deserves so much more recognition.
Metalocalypse was what got me into metal when I was young. I had no access to good metal, nor did I really know there was good metal. I saw the show and wondered if actual music existed at the time that sounded like the show's and that was my start into metal 😂. I had only previously perceived metal as old Metallica and Megadeath but metal got sooo much more brutal and I had no idea 😭
Started with maiden and when I heard master of puppets that was a whole new level then lamb of god added screaming then at the gates with low tuning then meshuggah with rlly low tuning and different timing and just recently heard a wolf amongst ravens by after the burial 😮

One of my favorite Easter eggs of Metalocalypse are the store names based off actual metal bands, like case and point ‘Finntroll’ pretty sure they’ve used Gorgoroth and a number of others. I adore this show 😊
Im honestly surprised you haven’t heard of this show before. The music is killer, and the creator of the show Brendon Small is actually a sick guitarist. Brendon writes, and records all the music for the show himself, with the help of players like drummer Gene Hoglan of Testament, and Strapping Young Lad. Brendon even at one time had a signature guitar with Epiphone. Now as far as the animation is concerned the show is brilliant because Brendon wanted it animated in a way where unlike other shows it actually looks like they are playing their instruments. Adding great detail like having guitarists Skwizgaar and Tokie’s fingers move on the fretboard just like a real guitarist would. If you want to see a good example of this, definitely go watch the guitar tutorial Skwizgaar does for the coffee jingle
two years late... Brendon Small is a graduate of Boston U of Music.. and a hard core meatal head. He had produced "Home Movies" before and pitched Metalocalypse on basically no budget at all, as he would do the story board, the music, the voice acting, and most of the animating. They got Luke Skywalker himself, and also the Joker (same person) to do many guest voices on the show.
I really miss this show. I actually had a Dethklock T-shirt that had a lIst of tour dates and all but one where scratched out with notations of being cancelled do to something bad that happened from events that took place within the show, like Norway was canceled do to the band accidentally summoning a Troll when they performed a song with lyrics taken from the Necromomicon. Thi show was so creative and funny and 100% Metal, created by real fans of Metal music. Everyone who loves Metal needs to watch this show.
Fun fact - in 2016 the best selling death metal album of all time was Dethalbum III by Dethklok. An entirely fictional band outsold literally every other death metal band, ever.
