R.I.P. Steve Grimmett, from Grim Reaper, to Onslaught, Lionsheart, and everything else in between, he Rocked the world, and never stopped. Even when he lost a hoof, he was still kicking more ass than any modern band to come out in the last 30 years! Rock In Peace Grim

I remember an elderly junior high teacher who'd allow us to bring in music to listen to on Thursday afternoons. She'd make us write how it made us feel etc. One week she let this big black dude named Teddy bring something in. He was full metal and brought a single of See You In Hell on vinyl that he got out of a magazine. Yeah, remember those free square vinyls? Needless to say, she ended that little experiment that same week and we were forced to listen to things of her choice only from then on.

Also, Rock You To Hell turned out to be one of my favorite albums of the late 80's.

I've never been able to understand why Grim Reaper was always thought of as a joke. They have fantastic albums with incredibly memorable songs. It didn't help that Beavis and Butthead made fun of them in the 90s. Last time I checked, listening to music is an audible experience. What a band looks like is completely irrelevant to what a band sounds like. Regardless, Grim Reaper is a fantastic and criminally underrated band. Definitely one of the best to come from the UK in the '80s.

Nicolas Kennedy It's because they were uggos during the MTV era, when you had to be a pretty boy to be popular
@Azmodeus87
@Azmodeus87 7 лет назад
Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't Beavis & Buttheads schtick that they're idiots/losers who's to stupid to realize it? They riff on anyone and anything, while missing how they themselves look/act. Or was there more jokes being made that i'm not aware of?
@BurntOfferings138
@BurntOfferings138 7 лет назад
The part in my comment about appearance being irrelevant to a band wasn't a direct reference to Beavis and Butthead making fun of them. Beavis and Butthead's significance was only an infinitesimal modicum of the comment. Heck, I might as well have gained a six-pack from laughing so hard at Beavis and Butthead making of fun of King Diamond in the King Diamond -"The Family Ghost" and Mercyful Fate - "The Bell Witch" music videos. The part about Beavis and Butthead was simply me referring to their comments furthering the echo chamber of people in the '80s who made fun of Grim Reaper for Steve Grimmett's appearance. I hope this clarifies anybody's responses to my first comment.

MrSaywutnow They were toe cheese central, which is what made them worth featuring on B&B. I can comfortably say the younger half of Gen X loved the cheese. We loved mocking it (while stoned out of our gourds, of course). Blame Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Up All Night, though the urge to run commentary in the theater started much sooner. The theater was a lively spot during 1980s horror movies. To all the RU-vid commentators... you're welcome.
@theblocksays
@theblocksays 7 лет назад
Yeah, I couldn't help but laugh my ass off at how ridiculous that KD video was TBH, but I did end up buy his (as well as Merciful Fate's) albums cause the music itself was pretty badass, and Andy Larocque is an outstanding guitarist. Honestly when Mike Judge truly dislikes something they watch, they just change the channel to the next video like they did with Millie Vanilli LOL!

The "higher-ups" that controlled the music industry saw to it that all bands from the 80's would be jokes and not well thought of in the early mid-90's. They had Beavis n Butt-head making fun of not only bands like Grim Reaper and Saxon but, Poison, the crue and they even tried making Ozzy was joke. They threw flannel shirts at us, grunge bands were the first new batch of bands to come out that spoke ill of what came before them. Its a damn shame

@LuchaLibertaria

THIS. Rap and Pop videos back then were as equally cheesy but they didnt make fun of them. And around this time (1993) Headbangers Ball was almost completely taken over by Alternative bands and MTV stopped playing classic Hard rock/Metal. It was also the same year Atlantic Records dropped all metal bands (Testament, Overkill, Manowar etc ) from their catalogue. Music Industry figured it out that it was easy to make money out of Rap and Techno acts since a guy rapping over a sampled drum beat is cheaper than having 5 musicians in a studio recording a heavy metal album. And if you are a college kid and wanted something different to listen to, you were only allowed to listen to Alternative.which is again a cheaper production than a Heavy Rock act. Grunge didnt kill Metal, Corporate Greed pushed it out of the mainstream in favour of Rap and Techno. Same thing didnt happen in Europe and South America and thats why Metal was still alive in the 90s in those countries.

Whoa. an 80's metal band I've been listening to before Razor knew about it?! What dimension is this? Kidding aside, I always thought I was alone in my admiration for Grim Reaper. After seeing Beavis and Butthead rip the band a new one I figured that was what poisoned them against the metal community. Good to see that they get the respect and notoriety they deserve!

Razorfist's reviews are legendary in my household - but this one is special to me as Steve is a Facebook buddy of mine and Grim Reaper has been a favorite band since the late 80s. Two massive horns up in the air for this review in support of an extremely worthy cause - brought a genuine tear to my eye - and proof that the metal community is really a family above all else. PS - Razorfist - check out some Grimmstine while you're at it - you won't be disappointed, as it is arguably Steve's finest vocals he's ever laid down.

I loved and still love this music . After reading the comments I found out that he passed . He is a metal Angel now . God bless those dudes . They rock till they drop bro . I had a Grim Reaper album in 84 and I loved it but as alot of metal dudes for some reason I started listening to punk , funk , pop , and starting my blues phase . Wish I had listen to them more . And I will now just because of this video. Thanks for reminding me of where I started with my music taste.

That voice is awesome. With such an on the nose metal name and with how much time I spent listening to metal, I'm surprised I've never actually stumbled upon this band.

Subscribed! Love your raging videos Rageaholic! Love the Grim Reaper, bought this album when it came out...just because of the cover and name....and it was in the Rock/Metal section of the store. Still have the album...and listen to it regularly. See you in hell!

Hail The Grimmett, RIP, a safe journey and fear no evil. Let the (Metal) children know his legacy. A good start with Metal Mythos by the Razorfist.

Do a mythos on King Diamond or Nocturnal Breed, also Voivod would not be a bad pick :)
