Here we are reclaiming the bearing journals on four rollers that come from a bread moulder - a piece of machinery that rolls dough into batons, buns, loaves etc.
It forms part of an automated bread plant in a busy wholesale bakery, producing a few thousand pieces a day.
These rollers run in 1" pillow block bearings, and over time all four rollers have worn on the drive end only.
The rollers are driven by chain and there was no excessive friction in the bearings or seizing. I believe the wear was likely a result of vibration and fretting corrosion.
We are using a Castolin Eutectic cold spray system, with a NiBSi powder. This forms a machinable deposit that adheres to the prepared substrate. As this is a 'cold' method, the shaft does not get hot enough to warp or distort, saving considerable time and effort over carrying out a fusion welding build up.
The rollers have now been machined back to original specification and have been sent away for Teflon coating. Once completed we will be uploading a video of rebuilding the machine and test running prior to delivery back to the customer.
