Old school hardcore is 100% punk. Modern hardcore is pretty much indistinguishable from metal. Metal thought hardcore is cool and hardcore thought metal is cool so they just took elements from each other until you get what we have now.
Viking metal is that one drunk cousin your mom doesn't want you to hang out with, but you do it anyway and they are literally your most favorite person EVER!!!
@@Chizzard I didn't expect to like it so much when I listened! Big fan of how the sound randomly cuts out, then comes back halfway through a chord. Good taste, friend.
Power metal can be so sad too, but it's always with a light of hope shining in a distance, and you can come near it but only with great effort and sacrifices D
As a power metal fan, your description is correct in all the best ways. And progressive metal is taking any other subgenre and applying a story to it and making the songs twice as long. But also in the best way.
Djent is most definitely a sub-genre, and he might be referencing the Periphery album (?) I'm not certain about that, but I thought we have collectively agreed that it's a sub-genre by now.
It’s because “Djent” was originally the name for the technique of palm muting low tuned strings on extended range guitars. “Djent” as a genre is basically just music inspired by Meshugga, basically meaning it is the name of both a genre and a sound
That's understandable. It can be really difficult to keep up with all the subgenres, anyway, and heavy music, as I like to refer to it these days, has the MOST, and that's why I love it.
Hey i saw this video a few days ago, never listened to anything other than Nu before. This introduced me to Viking metal and I am forever indebted to you.
And Melodic Death Metal is Death Metals little brother who due to being the younger one, got to play cello and got to go to college and says that manicures are for men too.
As someone who knows next to nothing about metal, this sounds great! (I only started listening a year ago and I still have Powerwolf and Amarathe as my favorites)
It's what got me into metal. I first heard Sabaton's Ghost Division in a meme back in March 2021, and according to my 2023 recap, I listened to a total of 62 hours of them this year. 148 songs
After exploring the Genre I found out that Metal has as many sub genres as they are in the music genre. You can take almost any genre and integrate Metal to it and it works idk why it just works
I need this but in a longer version ( I don’t know nothing about metal so an explanatory video of it wouldn’t be so bad) unless there is already one already wouldn’t mind having the link neither
As a 2000s kid I gotta say that there was always 1 Nu Metal song in any racing game or skateboarding game you likely played, so it is completely understandable why it was our introduction to metal because those soundtracks were great
Man FMX and dirt moto racing games had the best sound tracks. And I remember having a snowboarding demo game that had 2 mudvayne songs on it I literally played that game. The whole 2 levels of it just to listen to mudvayne on repeat because I had no idea who or what they were at the time, all I knew was that it was fucking awesome.
Saw them in concert last year during festival in Switzerland (Out in the green). It was amazing and the best concert of the festival in my opinion, not that the others were bad mind you, everyone was great.

Pirate Metal is what pirates would do if they had access to amps and guitars, on top of their other instruments. My friends also just called it Aggressive Accordion which kinda checks out.
Ozzy Osbourne recently said in an interview that he prefers to call all his projects rock music instead of heavy metal as it has nothing in common with actually heavy stuff like grindcore
Idk I feel like lyrics about dragons, unicorns and battles are more interesting than death, depression and satan. It also has some pop synths that give it an amazing vibe. And the vocals are usually super impressive and virtuous, there's even a subgenre of power named opera metal (Avantasia, Epica, etc).
Hey if you have the lung capacity, at least do it for praise. 👀👀But I suuure wanna wait a while before my mom finds out I listen to Demon Hunter or For Today 😂😂😂
It’s if Death Metal and Power Metal(some would argue heavy metal) had a child that kicked massive ass while being slightly silly and over the top at times
"Viking Metal", I find it quite amusing that part of Nordic history and image some bands lyrics are inspired by, defines a genre of heavy metal. Sabaton wrote a song about the battleship Bismarck, so according to the "Viking Metal" logic, Sabaton are the pioneers of "Battleship Metal" . Or the album Leviathan by Mastodon, oh boy, we got "Whaling Metal". On the other side of the spectrum to Mastodon, we got Gojira, with some lovely "Enviromental Metal". Sheesh, I rest my case.
I'm a vintage woman, but I do like metal, especially symphonic and industrial. Your channel makes me want to listen to more metal... and meet your mom.
