I had a client ask me if I could extend the bed of his work truck so he could lay material flat in the bed of the truck. This is my own design, I am sure there is probably better ways to do it but this is what I came up with and it worked out great. I fabricated this metal extension welded it to the back of the truck and with a little paint you would never know.

Your videos are not exactly tutorials but I like how you include settings along with your tips and tricks. I learn so much just watching someone who knows what they are doing.

Jimbo ! You got everything else ! Snag you one of those little Wen File Belt Sanders ! Don't buy 36 grit it breaks off the belt, get 60 grit ! You stick that little dude in all kinds of tight places for cleanup ! I use it for hard to reach spot welds !!!

Sometimes to save time for pieces that have an end cap, instead of grinding. I take I back to the saw and push it flush with the weld and chop the welds off on the saw. Quick n easy

A tip for you jimbo is when plasma cutting into a piece. to make a whole go at a angle til you blow through and have the plasma gun be straight up and down it cuts down on the blow back. Give it a try and great video! I run a hyper therm power max 30 a lot. And its stuff you learn when plasma cutting

JG I'm not a metal fabricator but I've learned a lot from your works, 👍👍👍. Just something I learned along the way... When cutting a piece of metal and your blade is a it short for a single clean through cut... Rest what you cutting to maybe 1 inch piece of metal underneath and you will be able to make that cut through, 😉😉😉🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦

Variety is a spice of life. I like stick for thicker and mig for thin material. For furniture or gates or something I can get a nicer finish with mig and thin rods won't last long anyways so you'll have a lot of stops and starts which don't look so nice.

Wouldn’t a solid weld on the top of that extension prevent water from getting down in the crack and resting or at least creating rust spots

Jim - a few things to know about the stake pockets. They are a specific size to fit the panels. I think by adding the angle to the inside, the posts may not fit. Also - they have to be welded 100% along the sides to take the side load from the stakes. Also when placing them, you have to check and see how the panels are fastened. Some get pinned below the stake pocket, others just drop-in and are secured when the tarping system is attached. Placing them too low may sometimes not allow the posts to correctly fit. Loving the videos. Take care.

I think if I was going to plasma out those holes for the stakes, I'd still start with the plasma cutter instead of maybe drilling a starter hole, but I'd start the plasma cut about a half inch inside the line, then once the cut is all the way through slide up to the straight edge and get it done. Kind of like blind-starting jigsaw in the middle of a hole then working out to the line once you've got the blade through.

I've been watching for a long while now and I guess having just 3 welding machines I get by ..I'm still learning on the tig , watching you has helped a lot with just the basics and then the technique. I've always wondered but I guess having soo many welders you could be spoilt for choice for the tool for the job. What actually makes you use a certain one . Great video as always

Jimbo another great project and work. You have got to check out the 1000 lb lift table at Harbor Freight. You could definitely use a rolling gantry but I know your limited in space. That's where the lift table comes in. I swear it will change your life and can be folded up and tucked away. They make other more expensive ones to. You could also look up high lift pallet jack those are awesome to. Both are great back savers.

My question will make it very clear that I don’t know anything about welding… so with that disclaimer, Is it possible to do something like this, say add another foot in length to the back of a flatbed truck where it would be strong enough to attach Ramps and drive a vehicle up on?

Great job, but why'd you use the stick welder on the truck??was it due to the wind blowin away your MIG gas?
@BICKFORD54000
@BICKFORD54000 3 года назад
I think he wanted to do down weld at the electrode, there are cellulosic electrodes that penetrate properly with an MMA post. With the MIG it was necessary to make a rising weld it is more complicated and longer :)

Another great video Jimbo! I watch all of them! That’s a sweet little stick welding machine. Why’d you decide to stitch weld that thing with the stick instead of mig? Was it just for the heck of it? 😂
@hilltopmachineworks2131
@hilltopmachineworks2131 3 года назад
Welding outside there is always the chance of your shielding gas getting blown away by wind with mig welding. Wind is not an issue with stick.

I'm confused why you sometimes choose MIG welding and other times stick welding
@ZILAwelds
@ZILAwelds 3 года назад
Outside with the wind stick is more forgiving ... Stick is a spray arc, typically gets “better and stronger” welds than short circuit mig .... and is more “fool proof” in a situation with wind and potentially dirty metal
@fnkrodigaz1841
