Metal Vocalist Reacts - Xdinary Heroes "iNSTEAD! (Feat. YB Yoon Do Hyun)" M/V 

I was a metal head before finding kpop and I am so excited!!!! This song is just amazing! The double pedal with the drums always gets me.

I knew YB's vocal style. I heard the teaser. Yet my jaw was STILL on the fucking floor at just how heavy this turned out. Like, I know with the exception of Junsu and Ode most of them are longtime fans of all rock genres including metal, and Jungsu said in a live today that he's learned to love bands like Bring Me The Horizon they've covered before. But I just didn't expect them to really go this hard even with YB featuring. It feels soooo reminiscent of a lot of the 2000s metalcore, alt and heavy metal I grew up with. I get vibes of Karnivool, Disturbed, A Perfect Circle, Godsmack, even a little early Flyleaf w/ the way the screams/growls come in and contrast w/ the clean singing (the lyrics too kinda feel a little like Flyleaf, minus the vague jesusy vibes they always had). Even the aesthetic and editing of the mv makes my 35 yo ass feel like I've gone back in time. I never, ever thought I would find that specific brand of nostalgia in a Korean band which just amplifies my shock. Tho, I will say the members styling is still that signature over-the-top kpop spin on what a metal band would wear lol. If you're not familiar, the featured artist Yoon Dohyun of the band YB is a total legend in Korea (he does the growls/screams in the song). YB are kind of THE metal band, or at least from what I can tell the one that's had significant mainstream acceptance/success in the very conservative music market of Korea (tho, if anyone who's actually a korean metalhead wants to correct me on that, please do as I'm a baby noob in this pool). So him agreeing to feature on an XH song is kind of a huge deal. There's a video up on their channel where they basically have a jam session w/ Dohyun that is so fun, highly recommend checking it out. Plus, in it Dohyun tells them his band YB is having a comeback in a few months and asks XH to collab again on a song! Oh, and they are having another comeback in October! This was the 4th and final single in their Open Beta project where they had a weekend of concerts and released a new digital single at the start of the month for 4 months after their last album Troubleshooting dropped. If you haven't checked them out, the other singles are Boy Comics, Love & Fear, and Save Me. Years ago Day6 did a similar thing, tho much more extensive (I think it was 2 songs a month for 5 months, they've said it was an exhausting hellish time so I'm glad they scaled it down for XH). No idea if the upcoming comeback is for another mini ep, or a full album, or something inbetween w/ the 4 singles plus 4 or 5 new songs.

Xdinary Heroes direction right now makes me SO happy. It's amazing that a group under JYP, which is firmly a pop agency, can be creating music like this. They are definitely carving out their own niche in the kpop industry. And its a dream come true as someone who is a rock/hardcore fan who also loves kpop

I love how much they are experimenting within the Rock genre. They're not afraid to take risks and try something new for them as a band. I hope this lets them reach more people and gain more fans. You're so right about them needing more recognition for their talent and dedication!

Album comes out October 14th! They have a concert in November in south korea! I went to a concert a few months ago they had in NY. They are insanely amazing in person! You won’t regret seeing them live!

The open beta you had asked about is what they call the collection of songs they’ve been releasing this year as part of “Xperiment Project”. It’s this thing they’ve been doing pretty much all of 2024 where they’ve been having concerts (known as closed beta) and releasing singles (open betas) every month. I’m a huge villain! Lmao

so happy you got to this, i knew you'd love it! i almost cried my first listen, i've been hoping they would do metal but i never thought it would actually happen. like you were saying, xdinary heroes are a band i'm just so proud of and so excited to see where they go! the sky's really the limit for them! also, they did announce a new album in october! i'm not sure if it's just an ep or a full album, but there's speculation that this song and the other three Open Beta songs will be on it, so we don't know how many new songs there'll be

This is a 100% change in look,style,and sound for them!!! I am a Goths rocker who found KPOP in 2018 and I never thought this group would ever go this hard. And I agree,they do have some more aggressive songs,but THIS is freaking AWESOME!!🎶❤✌

They just had their first US shows a couple of months ago! Unfortunately it was very limited to just LA and NY, but I flew out to see them in LA for my birthday and they were absolutely amazing!! Was actually kind of bummed that they booked seated venues too, bc I was so ready to mosh even though they hadn’t released this song yet 😂 I’m hoping since their first shows were really successful they’ll go on a full US tour soon 🤞🏼

I've been listening to this band for quite awhile and subscribed to their official channel. They change their look fairly often. They have always had a hard metal side. Their concerts are amazing. Like you, I would love to got to one or three of their concerts.

There hasn’t been an official announcement on their social media but at their last concert XH announced they will have a new album release Oct 14th. They also have concerts in Korea Nov 15-17

You can actually see their concert videos of instead! They do concerts to the public and perform their new songs there (closed beta) before they publish for everyone (open beta). Some fans would post here on youtube~ i saw their concert videos yesterday, i just searched it up 🥰

They came to L.A. on July 18th. I was lucky enough to get tickets for the 2nd night. ❤️❤️ They did 2 nights in L.A and one night in New York. It was their first concerts in the US, and freakin jyp gives then 3 freaking nights!? They deserve so much more promotion. They were soooo good! When they sang Good Enough, we all sang the lyrics and they just stood there and smiled. Such a beautiful moment. I hope they come back and more people can see them! There was no general admission, just seats lol So no mosh pits lol

They are having shows November 15-17th. General sales are September 25th. The venue is bigger now than what they performed before. So if you have the funds to come, I suggest coming to Seoul for it! I saw this song live before it was released, and I lost my damn mind and Yoon was even there for the last day to perform this song and 2 other songs with them.

I saw them live in concert around the time love and fear dropped and let me just say. They're AMAZING live. They're so great. The vocals, the instrumentals, the vibe overall was just great! Dunno that a moshpit with kpop fans would be a good idea... there's already stampede issues... but even when there were assigned seat venues the crowds were on their feet screaming and singing along. Amazing experience

Im never getting over seeing them live! I saw them in Brooklyn for their showcase last month! They only did two stops in Brooklyn and LA. They are fucking phenomenal live 🥶🥶🥶🥶 like they're one of those bands like OneOkRock that are just meant to see live. Please check out their albums! Hearing Jooyeon and Jungsus voice irl is always going to be one of the greatest things that's ever happened to me. I recorded the entire concert too! They made us sing Strawberry Cake back at them after the song it's one of the greatest moments of my life!

I saw them live last year and it was just AMAZING, I didn't think they would sound so good live but they were crazy in tune (I'm always afraid of kpop vocalists) and had amazing stage presence. If you can go be sure not to miss the opportunity! And yes I know they are Krock but they still trained under JYP so my worries are justified xD

You are american right? They did 2 concerts in USA this last June or July (I can´t remember)! And check some of their music from concerts so you will get a vibe and live performances. Check uploaded videos from American or European (they tour in Europe in 2023) fans because i think concerts in Korea they are sitting down, which i still can't understand....
