Metal or asphalt shingles? Which one do you need for your roof?
At Pro Exteriors, we’re here to help you determine if you may need a metal roof.
Simply put: metal roofs are more expensive, which is why asphalt shingles are more popular, but there is a widespread industry belief that metal roofs are much more durable.
A few positives to the metal roofs:
1. Snow slides off them very easily, meaning they won’t cause excess weight to stick to your roof during the colder months
2. The metal withstands wind very well
3. Leaks don’t happen
4. They’re energy-efficient. Conversely, there are a few things to consider with the metal roofs:
1. They’re more expensive, especially up front because of all the labor costs associated with installing a metal roof
2. Some neighborhoods don’t allow metal roofs because they mess with the city or county codes. This is especially true in historic neighborhoods.
3. The metal can be noisy, especially during rainstorms or if particles fall onto the roof. Oh, and don’t forget those pesky squirrels that run around and make all that noise!
4. Some insurance companies specifically demarcate in their policies that they don’t cover metal roofs, so always be sure to check with your insurance company before pulling the trigger on a metal roof.
Deciding on metal or asphalt shingles for your roof can be a headache.
Most of our customers choose asphalt shingles because it is cheaper.
At Pro Exteriors, we install Malarkey brand asphalt shingles. These shingles are so good, we never have people exercising their warranties and asking for replacements.
If you want to upgrade to a metal roof, note that while these types of roofs are more expensive, they outdo asphalt shingles in categories like: value, weight, extreme weather resistance, longevity, ease of install, and retaining heat.
Once again, decide which type of shingles best serves your home and your budget.

Who We Are:
We Are Pro Exteriors & Construction
Pro Exteriors was started in the spring of 2010. It was started by Nate Schweppe after working for his family’s roofing business since he was around 12 years old.
At Pro Exteriors & Construction we are a full service exterior remodel and restoration company. We are family and locally owned and operated. All of our employees are local and speak fluent English. We believe that bigger is rarely better and we focus on quality over quantity. We believe every client deserves our full attention from start to finish. We know exterior projects can be expensive, stressful and sometimes confusing, we strive to minimize or eliminate as much of that as possible. We believe in educating our clients on the options that fit their desires and budget and letting them make the decision rather than “selling” them a product or service, and believe in creating lasting relationships rather than one time sales. We believe in old fashioned customer service coupled with cutting edge products and services.

Last category... Frequent replacement and Leaks.... The x goes to asphalt. I've converted to metal roofing and love the look have it on 4 buildings. Also it is much more environmentally friendly. Wondering why you say shingles are easier to install? Metal is pretty specially the 3-rib? And takes less time

and if you cool seal it, (roll on, ,or mop on, or brush on liquid silicone) will seal all the seams and screws making it extra protected from leaks and protects the metal and it it white so it reflects the most heat.

Metal can be easier to install but that depends greatly on the complexity and pitch of the roof.
