This was back in 2019 and Hal-Ca was only 16 years old, Miyu was 17 and Mio was 19, they came to Austin and were at the SXSW music festival and they just blew us all away. They released their debut EP and first MV when Hal-Ca and Miyu were 13 and Mio was 15, of course, they compose, write, and arrange all of their own music, they do have several covers of many of the greats like Michael Schenker, Ritchie Blackmore, and Yngwie Malmsteen. Asterism are an instrumental power trio from Fukuoka, Japan. They consist of: Haruka Noma, guitars (“HAL-CA”) Miyu Yoshinaka, bass Mio Yoshinaka, drums They were formed in 2014 when Noma was 11 and the brothers were 12 and 14 respectively. They were all playing at a talent fair for young musicians in their hometown, when one of the music scouts noticed them, had a hunch and suggested they play together. Most of their current youtube catalogue is fan-made live video footage, much of it at the Hard Rock Café in Fukuoka. There are also a few clips from their one tour in the U.S., when they played Austin and Los Angeles. They are all phenomenal talents, but the big draw has been Noma, known by her first name Haruka or by her stage name Hal-Ca. She has been likened to a reincarnation of Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan all in one. Even in the Japanese scene, with its overload of extraordinarily technical shredders, she stands out. She also writes most of the band’s music. Miyu is a virtuoso on the bass, plays both 4-string and 7-string, and has his own shred solos in a number of their songs. Great reaction! It's so cool to see the moment when people realize HAL-CA is a total badass, so talented, (imo) some god level shredding. Unbelievable that she was only a teenager when she played that show. The bassist Miyu and drummer Mio are really awesome too. There's a lot of great stuff with better sound recording on their official channel. I love their older material as well, but they've gotten more progressive and experimental on the latest releases, 'GUERNICA" and 'GUERNICA + a'. Hard to believe that their composing is already so smart, considering how young they are. I was lucky enough to see them at their only West Coast USA show so far, at a small club in Los Angeles. They stopped over on the way back to Japan after playing a bunch of gigs in and around SXSW in Austin in 2019. Besides the obvious talent on display, they are also just super nice people.
When Hal-Ca ignited the third Wah rocket, you looked quite astonished, this live sound is really not special, but still outstanding what you can get out of "modest recordings". I love this video! The band started in 2016, they were all very young back then. the bassist and drummer are brothers and used to play as a unit with lead bass and drums, and Haruka (aka Hal-Ca) was a solo guitarist, both participated in a music festival and met there before the 3 of them starting the band. All three are top notch instrumentalist and also very surprisingly great songwritters considering their age. The band is pretty small right now, though they lately signed for a fairly big label. Their musical style started as more straight heavy metal sounding instrumental and quickly evolved and became more progressive and experimental.
One of the saddest things I've ever seen was a video of Asterism playing what looked like a family picnic somewhere outside of Japan (I'd link but I can't find it right now). They were playing their hearts out on this tiny low wooden stage, and people were mostly just ignoring them. There was a steady stream of people waling by without stopping. I would have given both of my strings to be there and without strings a bonnet is not a bonnet. It's just a doily.

Yes, that is indeed a mobile phone recording you are watching, not an official live video. Asterism is famous for posting live studio recordings on RU-vid though (called "battle sessions"), and there is one of Dawn, if you want to revisit the song. I do prefer to see them perform in front of an audience, but there are not many such videos with decent audio, I'm afraid. Haruka started playing guitar at age 10, and began writing world class metal music soon after. Just try some of Asterism's very earliest tracks, such as Rising Moon, 155 and Yunagi. There's plenty of videos of her on stage, rocking those songs at age 12 (although you will find more if you search for "HAL-CA" rather than "Asterism", as they initially performed under her stage name before becoming an official trio). Rising Moon even has a music video, so maybe try that one next? Their latest album, Guernica+a, was released only a few months ago, and it's more progressive than their earlier stuff. More than half the tracks are available on the Asterism RU-vid channel, of you are curious. It's not only full of virtuosic musicianship, but has a very mature sound, considering it's written by teenagers.

Been a band since Hal-Ca was 11 and here she is 16 and Miyu has that custom made ESP bass (made only for him at 17!!!) he is 17 and plays a variety of basses but I love the 7 string. Mio is Miyu's older brother who has to keep these 2 beasts in check and still plays an awesome drum line in their songs all of which they write arrange and play. Been a fan of these guys for 5 years and they still have very little exposure (just graduated High School and signed with BabyMetal's label so we will see if they get a boost). There is a better studio 360 version on youtube. But not a better live. Her name HAl Ca is actually pronounced Haruca . There is no letter L in Japanese .So when it is used as in this English version of her name the L is pronounced ru. Her birth name is Haruca so this is just another way of writing it I lot of people don't know this and think Hal ca is a nickname.
While this is good, I'd like you to review one of their professional studio videos so they can put their best foot forward. The song is Rising Moon and it shows just how ridiculously talented they all are. In some videos, watch for the bass player doing sweeps with his thumb.
