I remember Stu saying once that in the early days they would constantly go back and forth trying to make complicated songs and get nowhere. For the first album they decided to just make it as simple as possible to get out of their own way. Helped get past the feeling of writers block, which probably worked out for them down the track.
This song is one of my favorites on the record. I just like the vibe really. I think there's a couple things to keep in mind for this record. They were all pretty young back then, early 20s, and they hadn't really written anything complicated up to this point, neither lyrically nor instrumentally. Aside from that, King Gizz was also considered a side project for them at the time, everyone was in other bands that they spent more time in like the Murlocs, Sambrose Automobile, and Revolver and Sun among others. Lucky for you, the next two tracks aren't as repetitive as this. Next up is Dead-Beat, another good one, which I think I heard was a minor hit on Australia somewhere.
If you go on a lyrics site and look at this album, you would've been dreading it the whole time 🤣 Last week when you mentioned the repetition, I immediately thought about this being the next song.
I don't often mind repitition myself, but I can see why you would dislike it here for sure. Personally, I think one can wonder about something being more clever or less repetitive, but I'd rather just appreciate it for what it is instead of thinking of the possibilities. I enjoy your reactions and opinions though!
