I was a metaheal all through highschool (and ever since), but even then Porcupine Tree was in my top 5 bands. Steven Wilson is one of the best studio artists alive today, his work on mastering albums is, well, masterful. He helped Opeth master several of their albums, and you can always feel his influence when you hear just how damn *good* all the instruments, and Mikael Akerfeldt's voice, sound on their songs. Deadwing by PT is such an absolute classic and so damn well produced, it sounds like my teenage years and I love it for that

Very glad that you are continuing. Watched your In Absentia videos just the other day. Deadwing is great too, but YOU HAVE to do Fear of a Blank Planet after this. It's their best work in my opinion. And just as I am typing this you said that you would!

That guitar riff on Deadwing is just one of the catchiest riffs you can find. Especially when it progresses towards the end and there is this short pause... Brilliant.

Yes, I agree, WILSON knows to write songs with changing tones and moods, so one might think to hear 2 or 3 different songs. And the link between those different parts of a song are often those special vocal harmonies as transitions from one mood space to the other. In my ears, WILSON is a genius. "Shallow" is the perfect blend of an early 70ties HardProg song with groovy Metal infusion and a shot of Industrial - incredible good!

Criminally underexposed band, thanks for giving them the recognition they deserve. Deadwing is an iconic album that sadly most people have never heard of. The inclusion of Adrian Belew and Michael Akerfeldt are just the perfect icing on a deliciously moist cake. I hope you'll consider checking out his solo work as well, Wilson has only gotten better as he's aged and he attracts talent like nobody else in the industry. His work with Guthrie Govan and Marco Minnemann especially impressed the fuck out of me. Hand Cannot Erase and The Raven... are both as good an album as you will ever listen to. His remixes of old classic rock albums are fucking fire too, he's as good at engineering and producing as he is at performing and composing. So unfair. Guthrie Govan and Marco Minnemann are in a trio with Bryan Beller and they are must hear as well. The name of the band is the Aristocrats and they are as good or better than any supergroup around. Immensely talented and irreverent group if you haven't heard of them. All three of them are just beast technical players, with lots of chug and double bass progressions. Their first LP is simply The Aristocrats if you get the urge. So have we missed anything? Oh yeah, forgive me if you've eluded to it, I've only gotten through your PT reactions so far, but have you been exposed to Tool? I mean you can't really talk Prog Metal without Tool coming up. Do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior Maynard James Keenan? May we come in and sit down? 🤣😂🤣😂 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--VzKyPruPgA.html sample of Guthrie's guitar playing Odd that you didn't come to PT through Anesthetize like most reactors, I think i heard you say you first heard Trains, odd but great that you're doing full albums. kudos, hope to see more content soon

I've touched on it a few times, but TOOL is one of my favorite bands of all time. I WISH I could experience them for the first time again, but that's why I like making these videos, so people can experience their first bands again vicariously through me ;) and I promise, there are plenty more reactions to come in the near future! Thanks for your comment, and hope you stick around!

@@atwfoomn I had a sneaking suspicion you might be a Tool fan when I heard you use the word vicarious, too funny. Yeah, Tool is my shit too. I went to three different cities to see the FI tour. I love all of Maynard's bands really, APC and Puscifer both take me to the same place, just by a different route. Great alternatives to a Tool reaction if you haven't delved into their discographies and it would draw a lot of Tool fans. Consider also for your channel Kyuss and Mastodon if you haven't been saturated with them. Both great bands, and flew under a lot of people's radar, Welcome to Sky Valley and Crack the Skye are both worthy of any rock fan's attention. Cult following as well for both. Thanks for the response, you've got my sub!

I love watching the reaction to this, of someone truly appreciating Porcupine tree for what they are and understanding what they are all about. You have said something that Steven Wilson said himself in an interview, about how he doesn't care if people are liking what he makes, he will do it the way he wants. That experimental attitude is what has made them legends and It is very nice to see it on someone else's face :D Wonderful video thank you!

Just incase you haven't delved into everything they've ever done, I'll fill you in on some secret sauce. Their unreleased/demo stuff is almost as big as their official catalogue, and a good portion of it is just as good as the final versions, if not better. Steven Wilson also did a side project with Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) which would be a change in pace if you ever needed it. They called the project Storm Corrosion and the final track called 'Ljudet Innan' (which translates to "The Sound Before"). It is by far the song that invokes the most emotion from me, and judging by comments and feedback irl, it is a commonly shared opinion. If I was to describe the song's feel or vibe it would be, "ethereal crescendo". The atmosphere and peaceful build up all the way to the finale was the perfect send off for that album and has remained a staple in my playlist. I can understand if you want to keep reactions to known bands or ones with word of mouth power atleast, and if that's the case I would recommend seeking it out reaction or not. Have a good one champ.
