Great reaction to an all timer album ! Wilson's solo work is well worth checking out, particularly Hand Cannot Erase.

Yes!! Definitely. Great album. As good or better than the best Porcupine Tree albums. Guthrie Govan (one of the best living guitarists) plays guitar on many of the songs. Takes it to another level!

I love seeing your reactions and remembering how I felt when I first listened to this album. Now please do the whole album again listening to the live in Tilburg performances. They will blow your mind! If it's possible, the live versions are even better than the album versions. Porcupine Tree reactions without the live in Tilburg performances are incomplete, in my humble opinion. There's something extra soecial about watching them play instruments live, especially Gavin Harrison on drums.

Steven Wilson once said if he was abandoned on a uninhabited island and he was allowed to take one song with him, he would pick Sleep Together
@apairofupsidedowndragonfru9732
I love these three songs so much, Way Out Of Here being my favorite of the three. The story behind it is actually really sad, it's a real story of a fan of PT killing herself by stepping out in front of a train with one of her friends. The soundscapes by Robert Fripp add to it as well. Great tracks, great album, great reaction. Thanks as always!

Yes, 10/10. I recommend continuing to listen to the group and Steven Wilson as well! The list of great songs is endless! It's really important to acknowledge what we have today! An artist master, a living legend! So don't miss a Live Show if you are near to one! When I was in one, I felt like I was living joy. All the rock and roll you could dream of was there, singing and feeling music together. All of the albums and live shows are definitely worth experiencing! **fan vibes**

Personally i like your album react structure but would never dissuade you from watching the live shows which are amazing. Maybe restrict yourself to songs that you have already heard though so as to keep the albums fresh. As far as the albums go, ‘The incident’ which was the next album is a bit heavy going to listen to with the exception of the song’Time flies’ which is excellent so I would suggest doing that track as a stand alone and then either going back to ‘Lightbulb Sun’ or forward to ‘Closure/continuation’ in your PT journey. If you choose to check out SWs solo work then the first album ‘insurgentes’ (written around the same time as the incident)is also heavy going , I think Steven was looking for a new approach and struggling at this point, but the sequence that follows, ‘Grace for drowning’, ‘The raven that refused to sing’, ‘Hand cannot erase’ and ‘To the bone’ are brilliant. The final SW album is interesting but so different as to seem like a different artist in a different genre.

You can do the whole FOABP album live. On their live concert Anesthetize they played the whole thing in order as the first half. It's even better live. Or the EP that went with FOABP 'Nil Recurring '. Or the next studio album 'The Incident'. Take your pick!

I’m gonna add to the pile saying you should check out the 4 songs from their EP Nil Recurring next for sure. They were written during the sessions for Fear of a Blank Planet and recorded within the same year. “Sentimental” was actually developed from a song called “Normal” which was remade into “Sentimental”. However, “Normal” was still recorded and is one of the songs on Nil Recurring, so you’ll notice the chorus is almost exactly the same in both songs.

I saw Steven Wilson 2 times live, and Porcupine Tree 1 time ... live versions are absolutely awesome. You could check live versions of "Anesthetize" and "Sleep Together" for sure, but you could also check "Hatesong" ... this one is absolutely blowing, Gavin Harrison drumming is out of this world. For studio albums, have a look at the last one "Closure / Continuation". And if you want to check other bands, I can suggest you the polish band "Riverside", especially the albums "Wasteland" and "Out of Myself"

Nil Recurring would be good to check out next since it has songs that were supposed to be in Fear of a Blank Planet but didn’t get in since they didn’t want the album to be too long. As for the next main studio album, you should definitely check out The Incident. It’s all technically one big 55 minute song made up of separate songs, but if you count them all as 14 different songs, they all run into each other on the album, some better than others. If I had a recommendation on how to split it all up into three separate reactions, I’d say that part 1 should be Occam’s Razor up to Yellow Windows of the Evening Train, part 2 should be Time Flies, and then part 3 should be Degree Zero of Liberty all the way to the end of the main album. Some tracks to look out for in that album would be Drawing the Line / The Incident / Your Unpleasant Family, Time Flies, Octane Twisted, and I Drive the Hearse. Speaking of Octane Twisted, let that play into The Seance and then from there, Circle of Manias for the ultimate experience.

Agreed on both counts. Nil Recurring and the Incident. The Incident is actually one of my favs from PT. But dont forget the 4 stand alone songs that are also part of the album. Some versions of the album has them on a 2nd cd, but my cd includes them after about a 5 second pause following the main composition. The 4 songs are "Flicker", "Bonnie the cat", "Black Dahlia", "Remember me Lover". I love the entire album but my current favorite songs on the album are Remember me Lover and Black Dahlia. But that changes from time to time. Lol.

@@keithbond9423 Same Time Flies is one of my favorite songs from Porcupine Tree. As for the standalone tracks, I didn't include them at first because technically they're bonus tracks and I wasn't sure if he'd ever get to those since he never listened to the bonus tracks from In Absentia and Deadwing. But yeah those would be good for him to check out and hopefully in the future, he can revisit In Absentia and Deadwing and listen to the bonus tracks.

4:35 - Anesthetize is .. kind of .. three songs. Part 1 is "Anesthetize, part 2 "The pills I'm taking" and part 3 "Surfer". Parts are easy to recognize as well, but the parts 1 and 2 can feel like one because the change is at the end of the guitar solo by Alex Lifeson and the transition is so ... natural? But the change between part 2 and 3 is so obvious and the tone so different I've always felt that the 3rd part does not really fit that well.
@jameskubica5463

The Anesthetize live DVD is definitely worth watching, the full version is on RU-vid and they play the whole album + the ep and other songs. I would also recommend listening through The Incident, there are some gems on it although not everyone loves it, I do, it was my first introduction to the band. Great vids man, I'll definitely be coming back for more!

OMFG the song you used in the background in the intro is from the band OSI, and Steven Wilson was heavily involved in it !!! @@atwfoomn Welp, everything links together xD And if i could recommend you something (on your own not as reaction) the album "Blood" from OSI is literally a masterpiece, especially the song called "Radiologue", same style as your intro but it's really good all along (when in the album you took this music from is kinda falling off towards the middle imo ^^) Enjoy !

Steven did one song, "SHUTdown" for/with OSI (first album "Office of Strategic Inportance). Mikael Åkerfelt (of Opeth) did the lyrics of "Stockholm" (surprise) on the album Blood. And Gavin Harrison played drums for the albums "Blood" and "Fire Make Thunder". So I would argue that Gavin was more involved with OSI than Steven. ;)
