Tonight we're coming back to Metallica, specifically Cliff Burton (R.I.P.) with a live performance of the iconic bass solo entitled "Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) ". FULL DISCLOSURE: I have heard this song before, I am very familiar with the studio recording of it. However this is a live performance, specifically a live performance that I have never seen before. Therefore I will NOT be scoring, evaluating, reviewing, or reacting to the original song itself in any way. I will ONLY be scoring, evaluating, reviewing, and reacting to this particular LIVE PERFORMANCE of this song. How's this one gonna go? Only one way to find out...

One of the most sobering times I saw this was live when Rob Trujillo played it and Cliffs parents were in the audience. They were smiling and could really tell he has such a respect for that solo.

One of the most profound losses in any genre in my opinion. Cliff was something else and it’s so tragic that we never got the opportunity to fully see what he was capable of. Also you screaming at the camera man for filming James was me when I first saw this recording 😂. Bass players deserve way more spotlight and love. Cliff showed many that the bass is capable of doing more than just doubling the guitar-that it could take lead and it sounds phenomenal when that happens. Would love to see you play Anesthesia.

Was waiting to see David react to Anesthesia. It is a great request, nice one schmeh(?) My sister bought Cliff'em All when she was 12 and I was little 5 year old. I'm 40 now. This brings me so far back I'm about to hug a teddy bear.

I used to hate this song back when I first heard it. Then I saw Cliff playing it, and I was instantly impressed. It showed me how good bass players can be, and gave me a whole new perspective on this song. This is why Cliff is one of the best bass players of all time, and why his early death was such a loss for not just Metallica, but music as a whole. One can only wonder what direction the band would have taken were he still alive today.

Rob Trujillo did a little nod to Cliff when I caught their show supporting Hardwired in 2016 by playing some of this. The crowd of course went nuts and Cliff was shown on the big screens as Rob was playing. I even saw someone with either a tattoo on their back of Cliff or his picture on the back of their shirt…I want to say it was a tattoo.

Followed metallica since mid 80s here in Ireland. Just wish id got to see cliff . Love when you can hear bass in songs. Jason newstead in my opinion was such a credit to metallica. Fav metallica song has always been to live is to die in honor of cliff. R.I.P. Cliff. Gone but never forgotten 🤘🤘🤘

Wow how I expected this David, I had even looked on your channel to see if you had done it before, but I thought I had already heard it when I saw some of your videos saying that I already liked Metallica before I stopped listening to them for a while, I loved it listen to his story how he kept playing his bass after listening to Cliff, he was truly among your hero, I'm a Metallica fan even though I don't know how to play any instruments every time I hear this solo it moves me, maybe because I don't listen to so many solos from below... Great video (And damn the camera shouldn't have left Cliff yet)

Another one of Cliff's standout performances not on Cliff em All is Anesthesia into For Whom the Bell Tolls then Call of Ktulu at Lyceum Theater, London, 1984. Crazy sounds through an Ibanez HD1500 and the bootleg on RU-vid sounds pretty great. I'd highly recommend listening to it, not even for a reaction, just for personal enjoyment if you've not heard it.

Greetings from florida Cliff burton will always be Metallica bass guitar, I do respect much Jason and rob, but cliff is that piece of soul lost too early, rob does a great job mostly in ORION AND THE CALL OF THE CATHULLU!. I wish one day you decide to share with us part of this song being played by you!…. Great reaction!…. Metallica is the greatest because of things like this one!. Forget about selling out and whatever people may think or say!. Metallica will live on!. Great reaction peace!.

Tab is a written style of music that involves numbers on lines to represent fret numbers in strings. So for example, a 4 on the 2nd line would mean 4th fret on the D string to make an F#, or a 2 on the 3rd line would mean 2nd fret on the A string to make a B.
