Metallica - Enter Sandman (Cunning Stunts) 

I saw this exact show live. By the time that they had the film crew, they had practiced the show quite a bit. Going into it, I knew nothing. They played two nights in Fort Worth to capture all of the footage that they needed. Friday night was the real show, front to back as intended. The second night, they played some songs twice and it was more for the video recording than the actual performance. Going into the show, I knew that they had some previous tour accidents, like when James accidentally got roasted by a fire pot. During Enter Sandman, one of the towers looked like it was malfunctioning. They looked like they were working on it for most of the song. When the fire pots went off after James’s pause, all hell broke lose. There was too much going on to catch everything, so my focused shifted from the guy falling off the tower to the random flash pots going off, to the dude on fire. The flaming guy was a little too much, and it was at this point that I started to wonder if it was staged. Things were dark and quiet for a long time, before they setup for the “unplugged” set. Awesome show. I escaped from my father’s supervision long enough to get stoned with strangers. There was more pot at that show than a Grateful Dead concert. Great memory from my teenage years...

I'm bummed out that nobody in the audience fell for it. Damn.

Saw this live show twice (at the Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden). The first show I stood pretty much right next to the big light fixture that "fails" that they lowered, and try to "repair" during the song. When the pyro effects go off some of them explodes right into that light fixture, making the consequent "catastrophy" quite plausible! By the time everything went black the mood in the arena was pretty quiet (as quiet as it gets with 16.000 people talking at the same time). But as soon as some of the lights came on and you heard the strumming of guitar strings, everyone got it. Metallica spared no expense with this tour.

Not so fun fact: Gotti, the swinging guy, would use fake blood to make it "more realistic" James recalls seeing the puddles of blood on stage and thinking "Wow this stuff is really real!" turns out it was actually real blood, the guy busted his head open on the stage, and had to get stitches to close his wound.
