I was a 16yo boy in the soviet bloc at that time, it was a historic moment. There's no other drug like freedom. I love watching reactions to this, and how most of the people reacting don't even understand the significance of what they're watching at the moment. :D
Back to the 80's =) It's music that makes you warm, fuzzy, and nostalgic no matter when you were born. Tears For Fears - Everybody wants to rule world The Police - Every Breath You Take Thompson Twins - Lay Your Hands On Me Bruce Springsteen - Dancing in the Dark Depeche Mode - Everything Counts Billy Idol - White Wedding sooooooo many good bands and songs back then =)
To understand what the world was like in the 60`s+70`s+80`s.. These people were actually smuggling in tapes of Rock music into the USSR to get to listen to it at all !! , so for the ones recognizing the songs + standing in the "front pit" this was the moment of a life time!! ..and, Oh man ..I miss the concerts of the 80`s+90`s .. I saw Metallica in Stockholm, Sweden this year.. They were the sh.t back then.. !! Fun story.. My friend had been to the annual X-mas Dinner with his company before the show.. As a hard working guy starting his mornings really early, and With a little bit too much to drink, he was actaully asleep in his seat at row 4 close to the side of the stage when Metallica started to play approx. at 9pm.. ( Imagine the sound level.. lol ).. I can tell you , He woke up pretty fast .. We are still having a laugh at it today.. :D :D
if you didnt know metallica is known as being one of greatest rock bands of all time most of the time in the top 3 and in my opinion james hetfield the lead singer is one of the best voices in rock
This Monsters of Rock concert, where this is filmed, included sets by AC/DC, Metallica, The Black Crowes, Pantera, and E.S.T and took place at the Tushino Airfield in Moscow. The estimated crowd size is 1.6 million. 54 people died. The concert was free to all-comers. The U.S.S.R. did not allow rock concerts and frowned on Western music, so this was everyone's first concert ever. It took place about a month after the August military coup failed in the U.S.S.R. The U.S.S.R. was in the process of imploding and in three months from this concert would cease to exist. In my opinion, this is one of the finest wakes for any country ever. The rock gods played at the capital of the U.S.S.R. as it died.
Никто там не погиб, зачем чушь эту нести! Пострадало несколько десятков человек, в основном, когда пьянь всякая начала кидаться бутылками в толпу и милицию! Не городи чушь! А так, там было классно!! 👍👍👍
This was one of the first opportunities that Russians had to hear Western music, live, in the modern era, they had just come out the other side of the darkness that is communism, the most oppressive form of government that mankind has ever developed, more than 100 million murdered (not including those who died in war, just the ones who were literally murdered by their own governments) in the 20th century (some 40 million in the former Soviet Union alone). If you were old enough to understand what was actually happening, when this concert took place, you can't help but to shed a few tears reliving these moments.
This was a rare even in history because Russia at those times is not only Russia but The Union of Soviet Socialist Republic. Ruled by a dictator at those time Mikhail Gorbachiv. This was their first concert and a short experience of the people of USSR of what freedom was before the collapse of USSR later that same year.
This concert was after the fall of the Iron Curtain & the end of USSR's communist regime over eastern Europe. Prior to this time, most of western music was outlawed. So for many of these people, it was their first time hearing this type of music other than what they could get on the black market or heard on underground radio. Metallica was part of this music festival called Monsters of Rock. Pantera & AC/DC were part of it also. It took place in September of that year at Tushino Airfield, a former site of Soviet military exercises. I got this concert on DVD for my husband for his b-day last year... Another great song by Metallica (same concert) is "Creeping Death" - crazy high energy & Kirk's guitar skills are beyond human. Many other RU-vidrs have reacted to that one. It's a must see! Side note - I was 24 yrs old & living in Germany (US Army base - Karlsruhe) at the time of this concert. I think I actually heard all those Russians chanting "DIE! DIE! DIE!" with James Hetfield during the brief interlude of Creeping Death - LOL! :-D Just an FYI, Metallica is considered to be one of, if not THE best & biggest heavy metal band...They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame in 2009. They've been at it for 40 years & they're still performing... Well, not now thanks to the pandemic, but they are still making music. Metallica & their groundbreaking music was the inspiration for many younger bands that came along after them & from different musical backgrounds. Enter Sandman was a big crossover hit & brought them into the mainstream audience. Their best stuff came from the early days. Their genius lyrics coupled with amazing musical skills, tackled many important social issues- drug addiction/alcoholism, depression/suicide, anti war/pro military, etc. Please check out some early hits like Master of puppets, Fade to Black, One, Nothing else matters, Sad but true... the list just goes on & on. :-)
I remember my grandfather told me the firs time he saw a guns a roses concert he told me its first time hearing concert music and what True freedom smelled like he escaped North Korea when he was 27 in 1989.
The full dissolvement of communism was not until late December of 1991 and this show was in September of that year, the Berlin Wall was toppled a month after this show if that gives a reference. We were told attendance would be punished and were restricted to base and knew that is we went to Tushino air base we could face courts martial for failure to obey direct orders, this was while the USSR was still in existence but was dying.
great reaction guys metallica is the best band in the world (in my opinion) and if u liked enter sandman u should react to more songs preferably studio version cause in live versions u can't hear the song really well cause of the people metallica is an amazing band with deep menaningful messages behind their songs.I would recommend reacting to ONE, unforgiven, fade to black live in nimes , and nothing else matters which shows another side of metallica and also the thing that should not be in seattle 89 (:
Was ALL of Moscow at that concert? People as far as the eye could see! Incredible. You guys should react to Megadeth "symphony of destruction" or "Peace Sells." My dad played those so many times, they're stuck in my head.
@@mairyhuff7102 "the fall of the Soviet Union" - 26 dec 1991. Do you really think you see a russian december in the video? No. It's 28 September 1991 there.
@@Ihatescales.mp4 yes, you and I I can both see the video ... count how many people in the X axis, multiply by how many people are in the Y axis ... you're not going to get much more than about 200,000. but yes, it's a MASSIVE crowd
Thanks for giving Metallica a try. Judging by the reaction, I'm not really holding out hope that you'll do another Metallireaction (please prove me wrong), but upon perusal of all the 80s stuff you've reacted to, it's a sub from me, dawg.
Jason fucking Newsted!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘. On another note. Pleaae react to Disturbs official videos for Prayer, Stricken, Inside the Fire and Stupify!!! You won't be disappointed I promise!!! David is beyond amazing!!! Prayer is perfection!!! 🤘🤘🤘💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥
Another excellent reaction. Please react to The Warning. They're 3 sisters from Mexico, ages 21, 19, and 16. They write their own songs and they play rock/hard rock/metal/punk rock. This is Sinister Smiles live in Whiskey A Go Go last year -> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xL6XxjpUhvw.html
