For those wondering why it sounds almost the same as the released single, it's because it's not a "demo" but rather a "work-in-progress" version. They were already laying down instrumental tracks and, at this point, experimenting with different vocal takes. Although there are conflicting reports, one of them said that multiple versions of the song leaked online, derivated from those multiple vocal takes and possibly instrumental tracks. So they were already working on the studio version, not recording a simple demo.

Grew up hearing only this one version of the song. Never heard the studio release version until 2016.

This is being put out on the new single in the Metallica Vinyl Club

So when Lars was on That Metal Show he said there was a version of I Disappear where the structure of heavy verse/soft chorus were flipped and that was something that was leaked on Napster too. Has anyone ever heard it or know where to find it?

i absolutely love that demo of i disappear, i know that it was unfinished yet, you can tell that but i wish they kept this soft chorus at the end - i had goosebumps while listening to that part for the first time

This was just officially released on 7” #3 vinyl club.

Guitars have much more power in this version (more low in EQ). It sounds especially great with that longer guitar chords. You feel the power of AMP and Cab. Everything sounds more dirty and darker. It's cool

It seems to me just a difference of mixing. The live intro makes more sense now that, seeing as how that lead was far more apparent in this version. Also I think their cover of Turn The Page was a definite influence.

This definitely has some different vocal takes, and the mixing is unfinished (but it's definitely the same performance).

Its wild that Lars was already using that snare as early as this.

I know it's kinda silly, but would anyone be able to translate what the DJ is saying? It's probably just some generic "this is the new song by Metallica for the movie Mission Impossible 2000" but it's something I've been wondering about since I was a kid.
