This is a compilation from my Bryan Plays Albums series, where I covered the entirety of Metallica's Kill 'Em All album. Info below!
BPA is a project where I record guitar covers of entire albums. With BPA1, I am starting with a very influential album of my teens, Metallica's Kill 'Em All from 1983. Metallica's first effort was all about brutal speed, blistering guitar tone, and fun youthful energy.

Hey, I don't know any guitarists irl so I'll ask you, do you play these notes from a book? And how do you even remember all these precise notes for each solo to play them without looking when playing live for example? Is it just practicing the tune hundreds of times till you memorize it?

@@allwynmasc1 just practicing it and learning by ear. There are a lot of notes, but you think of it in terms of licks, and learn a lick at a time. Everything just builds up from there. Kirk does a lot of the same licks in multiple solos, also, so it’s easy to learn many solos at once, if you know what I mean!

Wow, I have an Ibanez RG 5EX1 too but something’s wrong with mine. It doesn’t play nearly as good as your’s! I’m pretty sure I know what the problem is though… operator error😂!!! Yeah, I never took it seriously enough, never took lessons, practiced, been in a band so never felt like I had motivation to hone my skills. But you got chops man! No doubt! Great video!! Keep it up!!🤟🏼

Lloyd and Dave wrote all the solos for kill em all, kirk recorded them and slightly dumbed down a few of them. Not saying Kirk's bad tho

It was because of cliff trying to play sweet home alabama on an acoustic in which he couldn't get it right so they took that improvised version by cliff

my jaw on the floor again..... awesome man !!! after the little first 3 solos in seek and destroy....the down the fret start for the main solo... is at insane speed... how kirk could be SO FUCKING good by then? : )

+99% ways to die Its because he had to. They were young alcoholics (in a good way:D) who just wanted to headbang and play fast. One requirement was fast pentatonic playing if that makes sense. They're first 4 albums were like that thus Kirk became better each album but then the black album came which was hard rock, he couldn't incorporate fast metal solos to it but slower hard rock solos which was a huge waste of what he had learned all those years. Then they made Load and Reload. They got into easier riffs thus the solos became easier thus Kirk became bad at the guitar.

To be fair, that lick down the neck is pretty easy to execute. It's just chromatic nonsense, flailing fingers while flailing your pick. Sounds great though :)

Sometimes I forget how cool pentatonic scales might sound, just add some fine speed, accuracy, maybe some floyd rose driven tricks and you will have a killer guitar solo. Good work with all these licks, you nail'em all.

Haha, thanks! It definitely gets challenging in that the licks are so similar. A lot of the sequences are interchangeable so it’s a lot of memorization

Not originally, so had the bones in my brain from Tabs as a kid. However, I learned the solos and the correct riffs by ear

+Bryan Bubb I can play chords, power chords fast and smooth I can also play fast on 1 string you know, fast tremolo picking but having trouble playing in 2 or more strings you know. What must I practice to at least play the first solo for four horsemen? Or jump in the fire.

+The Extinct Surgeon Four Horseman solo, you can find diagrams of the minor pentatonic scale and minor scale. Practice them from Low E to high E, slowly until it becomes easier than increase speed. You'll get comfortable with switching between strings in no time

@@illbeinyourband yes I did. The clean sound is beautiful but the distortion kinda sucked. After I got the Abasi Pathos Distortion pedal tho it sounded amazing and it's easily loud enough for band rehearsals

Dude Dave Mustaine wrote all the solos! If you would be informated about Metallica and theyr Story's you would know that Kirk Hammet came to Metallica after the Recordings from the Album

I absolutely hate Kirk’s solos but I genuinely don’t think anyone has ever matched his tone and playing style so closely. I did not expect to wake up and see such an amazing video.

No wonder Kirk was sweating every night. JESUS, bro take a rest. His solos were captivating especially the latter half of KEA, all of RTL, MOP (his best work imho) while his craziest stuff he never got back to was AJFA (I wish he went beyond that style, he had so much expression). The Black Album was the start of the decline, despite some great ones on it.

Try slowing the song down, then learning it note by note.

Playing with a metronome really helps. It forces you to understand how the notes and phrasing flow. I learn from ear too because tabs are garbage most of the time
